Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I read that the FO has finally withdrawn the advisory against travel to Tunis and the tourist areas of Tunisia. I wonder how long it will take the tour operators to return?

I assume that tour operators will certainly be looking at returning as the cost of units in Tunisia will be rock bottom, with hoteliers wanting business ASAP.

However it really depends on the customer appetite on returning to Tunisia. With the inquest only completing earlier this year, the attack will still be fresh in the minds of plenty. Would I want to go? Absolutely not.

I'd expect to see a minimal program initially to test the water with this being grown/dropped based on it's success.

First, the rest of Europe dropped the ban many months ago, and so TUI will presumably have accommodation booked which could be diverted to the UK.

Secondly, some people have continued to travel from here via, say, Belgium so there is already a market. Personally I would prefer a winter holiday there, but mind you, I wouldn't go anywhere in the Med in summer.

Thomson and Thomas Cook will ravish this opportunity. I agree with the post above that there will be a minimal programme at first for S18 but it's an opportunity to deploy aircraft away from the oversaturated Costa's and Portugal to better yield routes. Never have I known there to be flights for less than £60 return in August to the likes of PMI, MAH and IBZ but with hotels costing £700-£1000 for a week. Cheap hotels with better yield routes is a win win situation for both the travel operators and passengers. I expect there to be 1/2 flights a week from LGW, STN, BHX, MAN and BRS.

People will go if it's cheap or were regulars before. Don't forget the Dinar is one of the few currencies where the pound is performing well against, compared to the Euro.

'Ravish'? I hope you meant 'relish'!

They also used to fly from EDI.

I can't imagine we'll see anything other than a once weekly departure from LGW and MAN to begin with.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a layout diagram of the Thomson 789 Premium cabin as I have just discovered we will be on one during our forthcoming flight to Punta Cana? I have orthopaedic issues and need regular exercise and for for several years we have flown in the 767 and then the 788 which have an area between the doors behind the last row of premium seats which has been ideal for exercising and stretching one's legs during the flight Frankly it was a good perk of travelling in the front cabin. I have now discovered that, on the 789, the layout has changed with this area now integrated into the economy cabin. However I have also noticed from the Seatguru site that there appears to be a large space right at the front of the Premium cabin where the galley used to be located and I am hoping I can uses this area in the same way. Otherwise I am restricted to walking up and down the aisle which will make me unpopular. I can't find and details, photos or videos on line so any information would be appreciated.

If your on the -9 there are toilets either side at rear of cabin & a small galley area in middle but you still have the same area of space to move about as the galley is only used for storing back up stock & customers use this space as a cross over point from both cabins. the front is identical to the -8

If the links don't work then copy and paste the Direct Link for Layouts from the Grab your Code on the bottom left of the screen.

Janey, thanks for the links, I am already familiar with the seating plans as I have already reserved seats in both types of aircraft.
Oldbalboy, you have confirmed my fears that the space at the rear of the cabin is now replaced by an area outside the cabin behind the catering storage units between the doors and shared by both cabins. This will be be both busy and exposed and not usable as an exercising area; for me this is a retrograde step. However, surely this also means that the two adjacent toilets are also accessible from both cabins so Premium passengers only have exclusive use of a single lavatory which is at the front, is this correct?

no the rear right toilet and forward left are the premium toilets same as the -8 , the one at rear on left is for economy , they are both accessed from the aisle on -9.

It is a part-basing four days per week to operate the Cape Verde plus three 'true' long haul flights. Really just an extension of what they're doing this year.

The new law only seems to apply to holiday rental flats - don't think that would effect TUI too much since most their customers stay in hotels?

There's also a limit on the number of hotel beds.

Given the rise and rise of the traditional Costas and Balearics over the last few years and the explosion in flights across the board this news probably warrants its own discussion.

Capacity does seem to be an issue, I have a few days off coming up and given the poor UK weather was looking to head off somewhere, anywhere hot. EZY wanted £45 to Ibiza from Southend, TOM £49 from Gatwick or Stansted, MON £40 from Gatwick and even BA only £69. Have a look, those sort of fares are out there. Thing is, unless you pay stupid money there's nowhere to stay.

What the Spanish government has done is tighten up on letting apartments/villas out with no insurance, etc. You now have to obtain a licence to rent out your property for money unless it is for relations and no money changed hands. Where I am the number of ' visitors' is well down this year on the urbanisation - both Spanish and North European - which has surprised many although the area is very busy as it should be in August. So if you are contemplating renting a property make sure the owner is properly licensed.
