This is correct. Thomson basically admitted the same thing themselves, 'due to obvious reasons we will skip the TAWT registration'

I wonder though, will G-TAWS be the first TOM 738 to be fitted with the newer scimitar winglets?

Doubt thats a barrier? FedEx are pretty hungry for 752's and winglets is probably a benefit certainly with the extra range!

G-TAWS currently on delivery from Seattle and just passed over the Outer Hebrides and due in Birmingham at 09.18.

The flight plan was for Birmingham as there was a good chance that a fuel stop would be required - in the event it wasn't and the aircraft went straight to Luton.
