BS.

Thomson sells complete Holidays. A Holiday is more than just the flight element. That's just the bit that gets the passengers there and back.
There is no need for Thomson to compete with Ryanair as they cater to entirely different markets.

Thomson do Holidays for people who want to fly direct to their chosen resort with their own airline (Thomson Airways), and then continue with the rest of the package and enjoy a nice experience from start to finish.

Ryanair do scheduled flights which get you to an outlying field maybe somewhere near where you want to end up for your holidays.
It's aimed at people who don't want to pay the money to fly with a proper airline, but ironically usually end up paying as much if not more due to not reading all the 'fine print'.

Simple as that.

Ten West,

Thomson also sell 'seat only' and until FR showed up, offered a daily flight to Malaga from BOH. FR has pushed TOM to reduce their services from BOH. You will also find that the Malaga Airport that FR fly to is the same as the Malaga Airport that TOM fly to. TOM have not been able to compete on price, couple that with diluted market share/demand, they've reduced their services to this destination.

Personally I choose not to fly FR when possible. Sadly my choice from BOH is shrinking and will have to use the cattle truck services offered by FR. I used to love FR and would sing their praises, but after flying with them 4 times in six months last year and experiencing some very dodgy landings, I've joined the masses of moaners who are fed up with the battle for a seat that starts every FR journey. Followed by the Fly, Fly, Ryanair jingle and scratchcard madness.

Just wondering which A/C does the BHX/MAN/LGW to Cape Verde Islands/Gambia flights?

Also how long is the flight duration and do the same crew out bound operate the in-bound or is it a down time trip?

HI FLYboh,

You've blacklisted FR after "some very dodgy landings"? What do you mean?

You judge an airline based on how hard the wheels contact the tarmac on landing?

Do you factor in the weather conditions on the day?

Do you take into consideration that most airliners train their crew to put the aircraft down firmly and early to maximise runway length?

While most pax are impressed with "a very very smooth landing" - gliding and inching the wheels down to an almost indistiguishable kiss of the tarmac is not considered good flying practice on commercial airliners.

I think you'll find BOH has rather more than '6000ft of tarmac'. Runway length is 2271m/7451ft.

I have flown numerous times into BOH with Ryanair and haven't had a bad landing yet. Did have one go around due to high crosswinds but landed perfectly at the second attempt.

Hi.
I was wondering about BHX long haul aircraft, for there's not long haul flights from BHX Thurs-Fri, does an aircraft position back somewhere/fly a short haul service.
Thanks.
Sam.

BHX Based B763

I believe the B763 ops ex BRS on Days 1 & 7, and ex BHX for the remaining days, covering LH and Egypt....but I stand to be corrected.

Jet22,

Cape Verde is on the B757-200. Flight time is roughly 6 hours each way. The crew do there and back in a day (right on Flight time limitations).

Gambia is also on the 757-200- about 6.5 hours each way. The crew stop over on these.

Cape Verde & back in one go ? Do they carry a relief third pilot on these?
Don't think I'd chance it on one of these trips.

I think you'll find BOH has rather more than '6000ft of tarmac'. Runway length is 2271m/7451ft.
The landing distance available for 08 is 6030'. On a 737-800 there is not much margin for getting it wrong. Right place, right speed, firm touchdown.

Don't think I'd chance it on one of these trips.
Any particular reason why?

Cape Verde = You need your 'Body Armour' to go here!!

I can't see this destination lasting long, As it is one of the worst resorts to visit (Safely).

The people who have already been will not be returning!!

Cape Verde has been offerred from the UK for at least a couple of years now. Initially Astraeus, Holiday Options, Teleticket and the Gambia Experience (under the name Cape Verde Experience) lead the way but Thomson started their own flights not long after, and have added Boa Vista in addition to their initial destination of Sal

Oh really BYALPHA - have you been?
The islands - although basic in places - are great for a relaxing break doing nothing on a fabulous beach. Admittedly theres not a lot to do on Sal - but other islands have their own character. Praia is very much a working island with some great scenery in the interior of the island. Your sweeping statement does little to enthuse anyone. As airhumberside states, niche operators have featured Cape Verde for a number of years. TUI throwing capacity at the destination is the only thing that has dumbed down the product and the destination.

I called in on a cruise last year to the capital Sao Vincente what a s+++t h**e it was, fortunately only there half a day, but saying that dont know about the other islands, very friendly people though, but why anybody would want to invest in the place is beyond me.

I appologise for saying 'What I mean'

If everybody said what they 'Meant' the world would spin better! Lol

Your statement only adds to my preference of MAN over LGW!

Doesnt look right if you ask me, its like the title is too small, I was expecting it to say Airways instead of fly.com, oh well, one of those things you get used to, I knew a lot of people who didnt like the change between Britannia and Thomsonfly, but it could have been worse
