a coleet of 757 are planned until about 2017, depending on what boeing comes up with ie 737 max, as current 800's cant do i/b from Cape Verde without a fuel stop or severe weight penalty, plan is to refresh cabin this winter and reduce seating to about 221 seats to make them more appealing on longer routes!

What will 221 seats do pitch wise? Bring it from 28' (abysmal) to ~30' (acceptable)?

Do you or anyone happen to know what types of weight penalty TOM would need to take on a 738 in terms of PAX loads on the Cape Verde - UK flights? Obviously this would only be on the return sector from Boa Vista (BVC) as Sal (SID) has a huge runway easily making the 738 capable to operate to and from the UK non-stop at 100% capacity.

I know other operators including TUIfly, Arkefly, Jetairfly etc have all operated the 738 on the Cape Verde routes for years now. However I know certain if not all of these airlines operate the return flights from Boa Vista (BVC) via Sal. I guess in the future unless a runway extension is made at BVC, TOM will also have to operate in this way - I don't think the UK public will be as forgiving though, having been used to direct return 757 flights so far. So perhaps the 787 may be introduced?

As for the 757's, The slimline Recaro seats on all aircraft and the re-introduction of IFE on these flights and I think TOM is onto a winner!

Cape Verde -GLA was going to be the big concern for a 738, but as its been scrapped, its no longer an issue !

Just for information, how many 757 and 767 will be leaving the fleet this winter and what new a/c are coming to the fleet ?

Additionaly is the 787 operating out of Bristol next summer, as friend of a colleague has booked a holiday in CUN and was told by the travel agent that he would be one of the first to fly on the dream liner from Bristol. I can see it being a cheaper option than the present 767 as it will be able to go direct or so we've been told and will it do the SFB as well, and any other new routes that were talked about.

Someone should make a thread in Passengers & SLF for all of the 'which aircraft' questions, to keep them from cluttering this one up. However fatmed I would guess a 738.

Maybe it could be titled "Yet another request to know what aircraft I'm flying on because I can't possibly wait until I get to check-in/gate/aircraft steps to find out. And God only help me if the Reg or A/C type changes between now and then because that will just ruin my holiday"

Just a thought

No 787 scheduled for BRS in summer 2013, so it will be the 767.

TOM is starting its 787 operations from May 2013 and will operate from Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow and East Midlands.

The A320, 2 A321's, 1 737-300, 4 757's and 4 767 are leaving this winter. 10 are going to be aquired this winter, 7 737-800's and 3 787-8's (as long as there is no delay)

Summer 2013

With the figures quoted by MKY661, I assume that there is no intention to mop-up the Thomas Cook cut-backs, assuming that their reductions are final?

Also has a provisional aircraft allocation per base been made or is this still work in progress? In order words which bases are to lose a 757 (or two) and get a 738 in place.

I realise the IT market is contracting but take BHX for instance, the Thomas Cook reduction is 1/3 on based units and at present about 25% on seat availability, the last thing needed is the change of one of the based Thomson 757's to a 738 but if that what the market demands I suppose that is that.

Nick, I suggest you have a look at this site Flight Only / Airline and Airports • Holiday Truths - Holiday Forums & Reviews it is very good at telling you which planes are used.

Well for a start with TOM you are treated like a human being not something MOL has stepped in.
