bmi did lots of charters with it , but hardly a proper charter configuration 195 seats when you have MON/TCX/FCA(TOM) putting 220 seats in their A321s.

I flew many charters and scheduled flights on 'DC and the punter's only grumble was at the lack of IFE (as far as I remeber drop down screens but no headset plugs), but comfort wise it was far nicer than the nasty 222(ish) Monarch config I have had to suffer as a passenger several times on SCHEDULED routes (LGW-AGP-LGW)!! BA has 194 seats on it's scheduled 321's, so at 195 seats we were harldy cramping them in!

DUB

Are BMI doing a charter programme ex Dub again this summer as ther crew base is now closed does anyone know?

Until a few years ago DC was operated as a Y195 scheduled config aircraft in the winter months, but converted to Y215 config for the summer charters. In the Y215 config IFE was fitted.

For the last few years both DC and DL have operated as dedicated charter aircraft over the summer months in Y195 without IFE.

Dublin Charters

There is no charter program from DUB this year, only one ad-hoc at the beginning of May.

I heard that SriLankan is interested in getting BMI's A332 (G-WWBM). Is that true? Does anybody have more details on this?

domestic routes to be cut?

was reading the daily telegraph on line yesterday and there is a big article about bmi and the possibility of cutting domestic routes into LHR including GLA EDI and BHD. could be down to 5 rotations daily. not good !!

Would have thought MAN would be at the top of that list, being served from all major LH bases with their equipment.

Domestic Routes

Sealink.....Not good in what respect? I agree for bmi customers, a reduced domestic service frequency is 'not good', however bmi are progressively making less and less money (if any?!) from these services. Were being squeezed by the loco's impacting yields adversely. It can't carry on indefinitely....

Ayebmi, any more substance to your rumour.....You were right last time with the CGN/HAM!

BD would stem the losses somewhat if the regional-LHR flights were actually at sensible times for people who need to do a full day in London.

I notice BMI uses RJ145's on some LHR-EDI legs. I guess that's one way of cutting aircraft/crew costs. However, bit of a false economy a few weeks ago when our 145 had engine problems and was replaced with an A321. Still, made for a nice journey in the front cabin.

Have the management changes been made yet? After the last round of redundancy talks was there not to be a sweep out of the large management?
Just curious about progress.
If there has they haven't done anything to improve their website which is the worst I have ever seen in the airline business. Apart from straight bookings nothing works correctly with broken links all over the place.

Another example...Any attempt to spend miles online is thwarted at the very beginning because the facility doesn't allow the From..To fields to be filled. I've been trying this for weeks/months now with the same result.

A few of us who had flights cancelled due to volcanic ash in the first couple of days of the crisis have not got any money back nor even any acknowledgement from the airline. With no online refund facility (like all other reputable airlines had) it required an expensive phonecall (and hanging on for ages) to request these. Six weeks later we don't even know whether our claims are going to be processed at all. A bloke I know who had six cancellations in total (with other airlines including FR), some long after ours, has had ALL his money refunded already.

A couple of flights I was on lately were barely half full. I'm not surprised. Someone needs to go in and sort matters out and bring bmi back to its former glory. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Try getting the flight status of the LHR-TBS flights - the website refuses to believe such a route exists!
It will give you the LHR-GYD but that's it!

I once met a chap from bmi Business Development. They mentioned that only a very small percentage of their bookings originate from the website. That got me thinking that they were therefore focusing their efforts on obtaining more bookings by other means; but I actually think that perhaps it's cause and effect. A crappy website prevents bookings (and it does prevent bookings sometimes!)

New callsign on regional routes?

Hi!

Is there a new callsign for regional routes?

I saw on the radar a flight formally known as BMA now as BMR with a different callsign like KITTYWAKE.

Is this correct?

There had been no news/briefing in advance for us ATCos....

Seen BD cabin crew today wearing the normal uniform but with a gold shirt? and definitley a gold tie, looked ridicolous, is this fleet wide?

Kittiwake is the newish bmi regional call sign. This was introduced due to the carbon trading scheme requiring differentiation from mainline for monitoring the scheme. Midland is used on the mainline work and beeline on the Brussels wet lease and Airbus work uses the kittiwake call sign.

You can't have the same designator on the transponder with different call signs .
Using bmr I think boomerang would have be much better if available.

The French seem to struggle with the call sign and we have been called kittihawk, kitty kittiwaker and a few others bordering on the perverse
