'At last something positive that Lufthansa want to keep BD'
Its more of a case that nobody really wants to pay any money for it.
LHR Slots it may have but the company is bleeding money at an alarming rate which cannot continue without radical restructuring and cost cutting.Something which our German friends
are very good at.

Could you confirm, when you say rumoured to be 40% cut in operated flights, are you referring to 40% reduction of flights in the bmi 'group' or as 40% reduction of bmi 'mainline' flights?
AFAIK, it is fairly common knowledge that LH are not impressed with the chartering that mainline does. It would appear that anti-chartering is a philosophy that LH have maintained throughout all of their companies. This would definitely reduce operated flights but not by 40%
So many good rumours exist because of subtle inaccuracies in the detail.

A 40% reduction in flying could be achieved by slot sales and a fleet reduction.
Flying LHR slots with a 39 seaters doesn't make commercial sense and with management teams at different bases, one wonders how it ever made a profit even when times were good.

I have always wondered why they have been using the Embraers on LHR routes.
However - flying 30 people on an Embraer MAN-LHR is cheaper than 30 people on an A319 on the same route! It will always depend on supply and demand.
Regarding selling slots - it's what gives them any value.

Is this the sort of flight that operates for no reason than to get the aircraft/crew back to base so therefore take a few quid in the process?

I've heard that Lufty are considering giving Brussels Airlines another A319 to take over the LHR-BRU route. Not sure if as a similar operation to how mainline are operating for LH Italia and on the TXL route, or if this is a straight swap to Brussels metal and crews. Apparently the SN brand is a better fit for the route than bmi, not sure on the truth of that.

The bottom line is that SMB and his merry men kept me in work from September 1970 through to February 2002. The pay was always there and on time, through thick and thin.
The bmi workforce, in jobs or retired, are about to pay big time for the incompetence, greed and selfishness of the rats currently scurrying off the ship.

The pension deficit is alleged to be a lot more than £70 which I believe was the figure declared some time ago. Try three times that and you might be closer to the mark...

Hopefully if the brand does switch to SN the whole lot will be done as a wetlease, as you suggest, otherwise it is bad news, especially for Regional.
I believe BMI have some winter charter flights in the next coming months from the UK, including Hajj flights.
Is anybody able to supply any further details such as equipment, routes and dates/frequency?
