Engineering in Man because that's where people who know what they are doing just happen to be! Also Monarch are local, who now handle the long haul fleet.

Big big building with lots of spare rooms to fit crewing/ops etc!

The crew base at MAN never did close down. They just laid off CC, kept the crew room and positioned the remaining MAN pilots to LHR & GLA over the winter.

Monarch are recruiting for engineers at EDI and GLA on a permanent basis. As Monarch only have a summer base at EDI (1 x 757) and nothing at GLA I assume that this is linked to Flyglobespn.

Does it mean that the short haul fleet maintenance will also move to MON?

Thumbs down Scotland's favourite airlne-yeah right !

This move has been on the cards ever since TD took RG and other ex MYT boys, fat with redundancy on board. There was never a chance that they'd stay up here......& this is only the tip.......1st Engineering...... Ops'll be next......then Crewing and before long we'll have a Mancunian Flight Ops Director complete with Manc management cronies.....oh what an awful waste......
Hang your head in shame TD......where are the Scottish jobs....jobs for local boys & girls?

Jimmy Riddle,

Let me get this right....... You incessantly knock FGS for their failings and yet when they do try to take measures to improve things, you knock them for that as well!!

I will await the usual sort of posted reply that you give which will list FGS's failures and pitfalls, It will just go to highlight how bitter and twisted you really are though and that you lose / have lost respect amongst your fellow peers (or spotters)

My advice to you, sit on the fence when FGS make changes then wait to slap them down IF it doesn't pan out for the best rather than just being a doom and gloom merchant.

Adios Amigos!

AEUENG only one problem with your suggestion regarding Jimmy Riddle, would mean acting like an adult instead of a spoilt child who likes to through their toys out the pram any chance they get but we all live in hope.

Scotland's favourite airline......or the cream of Manchester?

GSM SCOT....word had it that you'd moved to Manchester with the rest........ so glad to see you are still alive and well......pity you didn't have the bal*s to face up to earlier questions here and elsewhere about our darling company......

AEUENG.....'taking measures to improve things'.......try explaining to the (Scottish) engineers why the company they've worked for and given up lucrative contracts away from home to come home to join (Scotland's Favourite Airline) has now decided to dispense with their skills and ........contrary to what Luvly Jubbly says.....not all skilled engineers are from the South....a large number of very experienced and able engineers work North of the border and they 'know what they are doin'........farm it all out to Manchester..........let me think why that could be..... maybe ever since TD allowed RG to step through the door.....& he then brought a few of his (large redundancy package but need the work) pals in too....TD's lost the plot....and his Airline with it?
BTW when spotters fly aeroplanes I'll give some credence to your snidey remarks......till then I'll say it like it is....from the line....ok..

And GSM SCOT ...........I think that if I were to throw my toys out of my pram.......they'd get a lot farther than if I were to through them !

If the engineers are good then there will still be jobs in Scotland for them, Ryanair, Monarch, Cityflyer and Storm are looking for people at EDI.

Nobody suggested that a move to Manchester was because English engineers are better than Scottish engineers but more because of the recent consolidation TOM/FCA and TCX/MYT there are plenty of experienced support staff looking for new jobs.

One does wonder though if they were all so great how the fgs engineering dept got itself in such a state and ended up needing sorting out by new management.

And you expected profits?

Hey luvly jubbly I'm just very glad the email didn't give the same news as Silverjet's gave their people.....and passengers......sad days in Luton......less so up here....but did you really expect anything else after last summer.....hey the airline is only a part of the operation......the part that's off down to Manchester....
Still....it'll be interesting to see what spin GSM SCOT will put on this one.......you should all be glad to have jobs maybe?

If TD doesn't want to send the same email same time next year....and see his personal fortune drop even further......he'd best get his finger out and get our bigger aeroplanes across the pond on time......not as is happening at present......a day or more late !

Just seen this article about flyglobespan turns out they made a 13million pound loss last year becuase of the Icelandair a/c and aquiring the new 738's and everything else that happened. Even so TD stated this
"said it was insignificant for the group’s long-term viability". So i think the Globespan Group has plenty of money at the moment to suffer that kind of loss, meaning for now rumors of GSM's demise can be put to rest.

Bit of a shock £13m loss! Didn't think it'd be that bad a loss last year. Good thing is the Winter 07 was a huge success and Summer/Winter 08 bookings/revenue is ahead of expectations.

GSM are still strong otherwise they'd have wrapped things up end of S07. Good thing is that they have hedged fuel for most of S08. Possibility of Fuel Surcharge on longhaul only coming into force. Much the same for all longhaul airlines, VS, BA, etc.

The leasing will have brought in a lot of cash and there are future leases organised for W08. Most of the longhaul A/C will be leased out to Oman Air and AI over Winter. Keeping the B752ER for SFB flights.

I'm sure a flotation is on the cards for S09/10. TD is getting on in years and will probably want to float the company in the near future. A lot of tidying up going on with the Board - CEO employed, Engineering Dept set up, controls tightened internally, proper structure put in place, etc.

Fingers crossed for a strong short and longhaul programme for years to come.

WEBBY1919:

Are the Oman air wet leases confirmed then? I was under the assumption that Oman Air was asking for a costly upgrade of the Business Class which GSM did not find worth while due to the financial investment involved in that? If you have any info on the 763 leases then please do inform me!

cheers.

Whats happened to todays SFB flight still not left GLA and on SFB website states See Agent?

G-CEJP painted in full Oman Air colours, first time i think a GSM lease has been painted in full colours: http://www.airplane-pictures.net/news.php?p=272 is it going to Omam Air for a long time?

Is the 763 going to Oman Air?

Why is G-CEJO still not got winglets?

Does anybody know if GSM plan to replace the 2 736's and aquire another 752 for YHM? I know they just posted a 13million loss but you never know.

New Engineering bods take note please.....our aeroplanes are dirty.... they have peeling decals.....dirty bellies & wheels..... and as a result...look like sh*t......sort them out please....give us something nice to look at on a walk around.

The aircraft that is operating the GLA-SFB left MAN this morning after a 20 hour delay. It has to operate man-yvr-yyc-gla before leaving for flordia.

Red face

Try asking why we had to borrow cabin crew from Astreus....then ask why our 'senior' people didn't know that these crew needed to be trained in our SOP's prior to their flying with us.....then......you might be close to the answer.......those who 'lead' us haven't a bl**dy clue.

Jimmy,

If I had to borrow cabin crew, I'd get more from Astraeus than Astreus

Don't split hairs over peoples spelling, stick to the facts we'll all learn more!

GSM will not be going "breasts up". They have hedged their fuel for most of S08. They lease out the A/C for longhaul over winter which is cash-lucrative. GSM will be losing their B733s and B736s over W08, leaving the A/C as:
5 B738
2 B7NG
3 B763ER
1 B752ER
2 B787s (on order delivery 2010)

I think for S09 GSM will have to have these A/C replaced with other 700s or 800s. The heavily reduced routes for W08 will be operated with:

GLA 4 B738s, 1 B752
EDI 2 B7NGs

ABZ and MME will be W Pattern flights or position down from GLA/EDI.

Spare B738 might be leased out.

SFB will catch up tomorrow, with the B763 not scheduled to operate again until Tues.

The schedule is loose until the SFB flights go daily mid-June.

Why couldn't G-CDPT operate MAN-YYC-YVR instead of G-CEOD?
