C Check on PT wont take a whole month to complete. The 757/767 will operate the SFB until May when the 757 goes off to be based in YHM.
767 will then operate the SFB until October 08

UK carrier BMI is on the lookout for airline acquisition opportunities and will “move very quickly” if it sees a potential target, the carrier’s CEO Nigel Turner tells ATI.
Turner says BMI is “out in the market looking at other opportunities” to acquire another airline, following its purchase last year of British Airways franchise partner British Mediterranean (BMed).
“We are interested in acquiring other airlines as they come up,” says Turner. “We got BMed in February 2007 and it was a fantastic purchase. There are other consolidation opportunities that we are actively looking at.”
He does not specify what or where those opportunities may be, but says that “if something comes up in the next month” BMI would be able to “move very quickly”. However, he stresses that “one thing we won’t do is overpay”.

flights on the 767 to SFB from GLA or BFS have been direct with no tech or fuel stops on route.
the BMI possible takeover of GSM. which way do you see it ?
Would only give BMI more aircraft and crews which are generally Scotland based, as BMI are not to big in Scotland I wouldn't think they would be too interested in the routes up here and would probably ditch them in favour of moving the 737 fleet down south.
I take it that the GSM 737 with the winglets have far superior range than the current BMI or WW fleet allowing them to be used on eastern Med routes no need for 757 then.
The 767 would be welcome addition to BMI as the have been struggling over the past few years leasing long haul aircraft but would definetly move them out of Scotland ooops they are mostly not in Scotland anyway would it make much difference.
or
Maybe BMI are expanding the Baby brand and are looking for a bit of the EZY & RYR Scottish expansion over the past couple of years and dont want to be left too far behind in the UK sector.

For what it's worth i'm GSM crew and have never refueled on the i/b sector either SFB-BFS or SFB - GLA on the 757.
And also have gone GLA - SFB nonstop a good few times on the 757 too.
GLA - SFB definitely not possible nonstop without ETOPS but SFB - BFS/GLA definitely is have done it in the last 2 weeks.
Also for all who are travelling with us in the near future, where we lack in ETOPs and refuleing stops etc we more than make up for in onboard service. So at least you will be very well looked after when you're onboard.

I understand that service on the plane might be good but I'd take a crap service with no entertainment over 90 minutes more time in the plane and potentially massive delays as the weekends wears on.
heres hoping for etops soon!

Its a shame the crews get the stick for what is a management issue. All they have is the instructions, uniforms and the hardware management dump on them and are expected to take the flak when it all goes wrong.
Losing ETOPS wasnt the crews problem and they are stuck on the scenic route to SFB just like the pax but by wearing the uniform they are tarnished with the same incompetence brush as the clowns running the show...
I'm probably the biggest culprit for slagging GSM but I dont think I've ever had a go at what the crews do. They are simply doing their best with what they have and doing it damn well too.
Its obvious by some of the crew posts here that they are treated as much like mushroons as the pax are and are expected to sit in the dark dealing with whatever BS is thrown at them. Thankfully the pax can vote with their feet and fly with another airline but for the crews its their job and its a bit harder just to say no thanks and walk away.
Nice to see someone high up had a bit of sense and decided to use the 75 and 76 on SFB. Had the stuck it with the 75 alone then the crews would have been even more stressed dealing with the delays and grumpy pax..
Makes me wonder though, its funny how the 75/76 rotation to minimise delays started just before the BMI sale was brought up?. Wonder if there was a method to the madness in that one?.

Globespan
Been watching this discussion with interest for past few weeks and it looks to me that Globesapn (GSM) are now standing up to the nickname I heard the other day - GSM - 'GO SOMETIME MAYBE'. This seems to be quite close to the truth judgine by the delays the had last summer and what has been going on over the winter period. Perhaps TD should get his act together and employ ops people who know what they are doing and not some snotty nosed kids who are in the 'yes Sir - no Sir' brigade. But from speaking with ex GSM staff all they want is someone they can mould into shape and speaking like a Dalek.

Right, firmly putting my big old anorak on here, and in the full knowledge it MAY change, can anyone advise where the B737-600s are likely to be based and flying this summer. I feel a weekend break coming on and they are bloody rare, so might try and catch a flight on one. ( Yes I know it will probably be subbed / changed etc etc ) but humour me ! Thanks guys.

GSM now only have 2 B736. 2 have been sold to SAS, the other 2, one is stored Liverpool and the other was last seen stored at Southend minus its engines.
Plan at the moment is that 1 B736 to be based at Glasgow to operate GLA/BCN/EDI/BCN/GLA daily. The other was to be based EDI, to operate EDI/FAO/EDI/ (NCE or FCO/EDI), however this may be the spare aircraft.

No more neos or icelandair this year
As confirmed by DFO - No leases this summer Two 767'S and 1 757 will operate the GSM longhaul.
I wish them all the best this year, and hope they can turn things around.

This is the same DFO who a week after a memo was issued by the fleet manager, changed the crew food issue on 4 sector days from what it had been in Summer '07-hot meals-to what it is now..........soup and a sandwich !!
The previous president Bush at the 1988 Republican Convention famously said 'read my lips, no new taxes'........guess what.......new taxes....and Monica's friend, Clinton used it against him next time around.
Take what you will from that, but the summer ain't even started yet baby!
