I believe the Easyjet 737 came from SEN, following maintenance there on leaving their fleet, and was doing crew training - presumably for its new operator whoever that may be.

Did somebody just say something The only thread i know where people purposely waste bandwidth

On a happy note however, it seems freight is up to two flights a day now? a continual increase of late. Are any more additions due soon or are we peaking for this year's winter/autumn period now?

I was on G-Doce, we came from edinburgh, left there late after being told runway had re-opened! the two 319s were from vce and gva, doca from agp, not sure about gbtb!
I bet the first thing passengers asked themselves was where the hell is Manston.

Diverted passengers won't give a **** where Manston is, all they want know is how long it will take get home.

I hate to agree with Catflaps, but it has taken them 11 years to get this far and aside from a small amount of freight (which provides little or no profit towards massive operating costs), the airport will never pay it's way.

Yes, all very droll.

My estimate was a bit out.

Kent International handled 2,727 tonnes of freight in November – more than double the October tonnage. Strong growth in services from Cargolux, and a return of several movements by MK Airlines, contributed to the growth.

The November result was still 27% behind the 3,757 tonnes in November 2007 when MK Airlines was operating daily scheduled 747 freight flights. Year to date freight tonnage remains 26% behind the prior year.

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has announced it will operate a scheduled service from Kent International to Jersey next summer.

Rumours are plentiful at the moment, but we do know that a top level team from a blue chip freight airline was at the airport last week.

Airport gets more ground support

An airport in east Kent which is set to expand over the next 25 years has taken delivery of three ground support vehicles worth £500,000.

It brings investment in operations equipment at Kent International to more than £1m over the past 12 months, airport owner Infratil said.

Fire and handling manager Paul Condon said the company was committed to having the "best possible equipment".

In October, the airport announced a 25-year expansion plan.

Owners Infratil said they hoped a million passengers would use the site each year by 2011, rising to six million by 2033.

Yes, there are more expected. The other important point is that the flowers are not seasonal traffic.

Happy Xmas to you but I have to put the rumour of a busy 2009 to rest. Here at SEN with our 2009 direct connections to Carlisle and niche cargo airport it will be our year? Perhaps Stobart would do better to sink his money into Carlisle Untied FC.Happy N/Y.

Green campaigners have said plans to expand a Kent airport to handle up to six million passengers a year by 2033 are "flights of fancy".

Kent Green Party has delivered a critical submission in response to Kent International Airport's plans.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) has also said the plans, revealed on 8 October, are unrealistic.

Airport owner Infratil said it expected passenger numbers to grow as London airports became more congested.

The airport at Manston, taken over by Infratil three years ago, currently handles 16,000 travellers a year.

In its draft master plan for the next 25 years, the company said it hoped one million passengers would be using the site each year by 2011.

It also expected freight carried through the airport, at Manston, to rise from 33,000 tonnes to 500,000 tonnes.

It claimed that employment generated by the airport would be over 3,500 jobs in 2018 and 7,500 jobs in 2033.

Contracting industry

A public consultation period ended on 19 December, with the final version of the master plan due to be published early next year.

The Green Party said the master plan took no account of the contraction in the civil aviation industry in recent months.

"Coupled with the current recession which is already beginning to reduce the number of flights being taken, plans for Manston Airport to expand are literally 'flights of fancy'," said spokesman Steve Dawe.

The party has called for "more realistic" leisure and agricultural uses for the site, including providing more allotments.

CPRE Kent said the airport plan fell far short of the mark.

"The master plan is full of aspirations, but is very light on justification," said spokesman Chris Lowe.

"It is impossible to see what the impacts of such major growth will be - not only on Thanet, but on Kent and beyond - as the necessary supporting work has not been done.

"As it stands, the master plan raises more questions than providing answers."

BA Freight at Manston

There is a rumour that BA World Cargo will be announcing shortly that it is to use MSE - but I wonder how this will be affected by the news of a third runway at LHR, which will increase its capacity significantly.

BAWC and Manston

In a 2007 discussion document published by BAWC, and a second report by the Competition Commission it was made clear that BAWC have been actively looking at Manston for several years, but that at the time it would not satisfy their requirements. You could read the report as saying that when Manston satisfied BAWC requirements then it could be a viable option? You could also read the reports and conclude that BAWC have looked and ruled out Manston? I would conclude that if they are still talking with management at Manston then the former conclusion is most likely.

I think by the time the new runways are open at Heathrow and Stanstead, Manston will have millions of pax, and tons of cargo.
These new runways are many many years away.

So farewell Manston,
You had a good run,
And on the way,
We all had fun.
But new runways at Heathrow and Stansted,
Have put the idea of Manston to bed.
What now to do with a brownfield site,
Whatever, it can only be an improvement.

P.S. Strange how all of the environmental impacts being cited for the new runway at Heathrow (air-pollution,asthma, noise) somehow wouldn't have applied to the expansion of Manston.

Still beating that same old drum I see, think you may have to change the tune before the years out.

Incidentally I received this today:
MANSTON airport is tipped to play a large role in the development of air traffic in and out of London.
Kent County Council leader Paul Carter has welcomed the news that Mayor of London Boris Johnson will consider making greater use of Kent International Airport.
The mayor made the commitment in interviews in response to the government’s agreement to a third runway at Heathrow.
Mr Carter, who is also the chairman of the newly formed South East England Councils (SEEC) and represents all 74 councils in the region, said: "I have had very constructive discussions with Boris Johnson and his officers and I quite understand that he does not want another runway at Heathrow, however, we do not want a Thames Estuary airport.
“I do support making the best use of our existing airports in the South-East such as Luton and Stansted and welcome the opportunity of Kent International Airport at Manston being turned into a significant regional hub.
"Kent International Airport could handle six million passenger movements a year which would boost the local economy in an area of high deprivation. When high speed domestic rail services between Ramsgate and London start at the end of the year it will dramatically reduce travel times to and from the capital, making KIA airport an attractive option."
