Thas horrendous, saying that there is 25 odd destinations loaded in for next summer which is not a huge reduction, brs has got 30 odd though how many aircraft do they intend to have based there? Maybe FCA or TCX will take up some more summer routes

FCA is TOM

You seem to forget that FCA is TOM.

By next summer they will be operating as Thomson Airways.

long term objective over next 5 -10 years is to have all short range A/C as 737-800 and long range A/C as 787.

This means they will gradually come off their leases for A320, A321, 733, 752 and 763 between now and then.

hence you should all expect to see base changes to the above over time.

I am not sure TCX will be in hurry to up capacity either. They too are on a capacity reduction post their merger with My Travel.

Reductions in current charter capacity around Europe, especially UK are driven off the mergers last year when 4 are now 2.

I think you will see a growth in other small operators again to start to fill the gaps. XL and Jet 2 are trying to push into the holes, but neither will be in a hurry to come to South Wales.

XLA flights to SSH

XLA flights this winter will be on behalf of Thomas Cook. Not XL Leisure group.

This is part of Thomas Cook's Winter expansion where they will operate on their own A320 4 x weekly to Canaries plus use the XL aircraft 1 x weekly which I believe is based in Egypt this Winter.

From what I can see, CWL should be busier this winter than last as will have extra flights on BE, Zoom and Thomas Cook which did not operate last Winter.

I wonder if XL will face the same problems as when they were based at CWL? I remember that every week luggage were left behind due to 737-800 having to carry full tanks. I think it were between 30 and 50 bags every week.

Hopefully they will use common sence and not fill the aircraft, otherwise effectively there could be a new bad publicity story comming Thomas Cooks way.

Mathers, was last time XL did SSH not in the Summer?

I suspect Winter ops won't have the same issues. I might be wrong.

Last time XL operated SSH was when they were based with the C-Reg a/c. The aircraft didn't have the capabilities of XL's own a/c (Think the MTOW was effected because of smaller tanks, or possibly to do with the C-Reg a/c carrying some mechanical equipment)
XL wont be coming back anytime soon. They had their sweet deal from CWL and are scaling back ops, as are more airlines at the moment.
The only possible thing we may see is more SFB flights from them.
SFB is still not available to book on the TCX website.

TOM dont seem to know what to do at CWL. I'm sure given the right deal from the airport they would like to expand, but as stated below, looks like ops are being scaled back. I'm sure the high landing fee's aren't exactly a sweetener for TOM. Thankfully the number of destinations TOM are serving are remaining pretty much the same, however its the frequencies that are being massively scaled back to fit on just 2 aircraft.

Yes I saw that on there ages ago. Similar on MLA website too. I thought we were not allowed to mention the airline that proposed to fly from CWL in this forum.

Ryannair

The rumours about Ryannair at CWL appear to be false. New FR base is to be Leeds Bradford. CWL must be the only UK airport of any size without a FR
presence.

Heathrow, London City, Glasgow, Belfast International are large airports also in the 'no-Ryanair' club. Your not alone

Correct but Glasgow and Belfast international are the larger of two airports serving there citys and FR operate to both the smaller airports. They would never venture into Heathrow in a million years. London City is solely a buisness airline and FR are not a buisness airline.

There is a reason why FR dont have any presence in these airports there isnt a reason why it doesnt have a presence at CWL!!!!!!

There probably is if you look back a few years, anyway what the hell is the big deal FR, all people seem to do is shout there mouth about them any way, from what i gather by alot of people on this board and other internet forums they are hopeless and theyre hatefull and take away other airlines business. It must be all that money those scoundrels make that makes peple resentful, but like Tesco really, but I bet you still go there

No CWL ain't alone...more chance of seeing a four-leaf clover than RYR expanding at ABZ - just a DUB route. Like EZY, they ain't interested, especially in the current climate, although it wouldn't matter what the economic climate is.

Ryanair and KLM questions

KLM flights are impacted by their ongoing issues with F100 and F70 tech problems. CWL is not the only airport picking up cancellations. I heard BRS, LHR, TXL, FRA, BRU & MUC are also on the list.

Looking at Ryanair when they flew CWL - DUB and comparing to Aer Arann who now fly this route. Ryanair carried more pax but I heard they only operated up to 10 a week. Most weeks was 7 weekly with an late evening departure ex CWL.

Aer Arann operates most days of the week with 3 daily except weekends which are lower frequency. This is far better for business traffic which at the end of the day is what CWL tell us they are trying to get more of.

So was their management decision to hold out for a bit more yield from Ryanair the wrong decision. If I was in their shoes and felt that Ryanair would add extra routes, then possibly. But they tend to say one thing and do the other which leads to mistrust. ie: would this extra routes be added? With this in mind, I probably would also have opted for better frequency on the CWL - DUB at higher yields and looked for other airlines to do the other routes.

This would not generate huge volumes short term but would create better longer term patnerships with more airlines which has to be better for an airport, than an "all eggs in one basket" scenario. And this would be better for business traffic.
