arfortune thats a very old pic, the start date for that design was 2006 and never happened. im almost certain the build wont be that grand with only the ground level being remodelled (but i could be wrong)

terminal upgrade

wow, it looks a bit grandiose for Cardiff but great nevertheless, its about time Wales had an airport that looked liked it belonged in the new millenium.

could the money for this be from the new funding being talked about that the assembly is going to provide or is this only for new routes?

Smile Arrivals piped music

Noted that while the 2 flybes were holding this morning, awaiting meeters/greeters etc. were being entertained by the airports piped music selection.
Track playing was "lets go round again, one more time" by the Average White Band.

Could be remixed to "lets divert again" also!
I'm eargerly downloading it on to my eyefone now.

dispatch101 - about time they did that!

The old short stay car park would be ideal for extending the terminal I just hope what they now do helps rather than hinders any future extension plans. I think we all know of a certain airport that would kill to have all that land right outside the front of the terminal.

haven't seen any extra flights at all and no upgraded a/c size for BE either. Looks like they have gone from Cardiff, but with the mixture of Friday K.O, Credit Crunch, Poor conversion rate for Euro, it could well add to the reason.

However few extra flights for Italy and Ireland matches.

Rugby etc,,,

Agreeing with last 2 posts re lack of rugby flights but this has been the quietest week a lot of colleagues can remember in last 4 years or so.

On (perhaps) a brighter note, is the announcement regarding rebranding/upgrade of terminal due Sunday ie , St. David's Day ??

The fact the game was on a friday night and not the normal saturday or sunday mean't the weekenders didn't fancy it and I've been told there was very weak interest from the start especially with Rome this winter offering a better trip. Paris is also the most expensive place to go at the best of times and this isn't the best of times !

It has been reported that now that WW are to stop their CWL-GLA flights Flybe are to 'increase capacity' on the route. Whether this will mean a third daily rotation (minus the onward leg to Paris) or whether they will use the E195 I do not know. It is possible to use a BHX based E195 BHX-GLA-CWL-GLA-BHX however it would mean changes to the CDG schedule as I cannot imagine they would use it on that sector....???

Could this be too late in the day to alter the rotations? Most likely maybe an extra rotation on the Dash8 which is just GLA-CWL-GLA. Whether there are aircraft available for this remains to be seen.

What about the possibility of GLA-CWL-AMS as the extra rotation? Could kill two birds with one stone and should work as an all rounder. Or even GLA-CWL-NQY.

Even though i would like to see the E95 at Cardiff on the scheduled basis i don't think we will unless Flybe base at CWL.

"International" dropped from airport name...

WalesOnline - News - Wales News - Cardiff Airport drops ‘international’ tag

So its no longer Cardiff International Airport. Hmmmmmmmm.......

I guess most people just call it Cardiff Airport anyway. I wonder how much money they paid someone to come up with it tho!?!?!

The logo was leaked in error it seems last week when the new Thomson banner arrived on the website.

Along with the logo comes a new and updated website.

What does everyone think of the changes?

international?

It was always known as Cardiff Airport so nothing new for the general public, but from an industry perspective this looks good. The website looks sleek, the brand itself with the incoporaiton of Welsh can only help to establish an identity. However, having just seen the artist impression on the BBC of the new look front of the terminal, it looks like once again future planning and any kind of ambition have not been included. Retail space is one thing but the airport needs more check-in desks and an expanded check-in area rather than a coffee shop but above all the airport needs new destinations, something the money could have been better spent on. Having to cross the bridge to get anywhere else in Europe beyond Palma and Amsterdam is getting very frustrating for the Welsh public. Connections to Germany, Italy, Belgium, France and the USA need to be established as a matter of priority.

Cardiff to Funchal

Looks like Thomson / First Choice have withdrawn the weekly flight from Cardiff and Bristol to Funchal. Appears the last flight departs late April.

Has this been confirmed?
