Elephants? Hey everyone....CWL is gonna get 35 elephants base with them and it's going to be the biggest elephant base ever.
One thing is for sure....CWL will have more elephants this time next year than BRS!

Sanford for 08

Currently XLA (XL France) has slots for 7 flights departing on A330's and MON for the majority of Summer on their A330's.

We are also expecting a TCX (MYT) A330 in the beginning of the Spring.

It will be XL Airways (UK) using a leased MYT A330 and not XL France - unless this has changed recently.

TCX will also be operating this route for first 3 weeks of May then all change to Monarch for the remainder of the season - again both with an A330 aircraft - according to what Servisair have entered into the Airport FID's system.

Also you will notice an Air France B777-300 operating to/from Paris ORY for the Six Nations in March, handled by Servisair again - nice to have a new aircraft at CWL ! This is in place of their usual B747-400 flight for the Rugby.

The French weekend looks pretty busy..........

Summer 2008 also looking healthy, good programme of flights with TOM and new destinations of EFL,KGS & SSH for the season.

TCX/MYT also increased their flights and not forgetting little "Skybus" with their new CWL-NQY flights.

What about Flybe - any new destinations lined up for them this Summer ? Would be great to have some French routes like they did ex BRS, I think it was Bordeaux & Bergerac ?????

What about Aer Arann - are they operating GWY & NTE this summer ?

No I don't think either of them are returning. I don't think Galway ever did that well and I'd say Ryanair starting Knock-Bristol was the final nail in the coffin. As for Nantes, Cork-Nantes has been for sale since November as far as I recall, so I doubt that they'll launch flights from Cardiff at this late stage. This year Aer Arann seem to be operating the French services exclusively from their Irish bases.

Flybe have launched new routes for the summer, theese are the NCL, EDI, GLA and JER. Total flights operated are 10 flights per day monday - fri (exc JER on the Mon & Fri) and 6 on Sat & 7 on Sun.

This is a substantial increase in the number of flights served by Flybe at CWL of over 60% and hope that this will continue with further announcements for 2009.

I am sure it was mentioned along with the current route announcement that there are possibilities of expansion which may add more routes into france in 2009.

Bearing in mind that all theese are being operated on aircraft from other bases, we could see one or two perminantly based at CWL in 2009 depending on planned expansion.

This should be a good year for CWL especially with the Heineken Cup Final in May (depending on region of the finalists).

Anybody know if Eurocypria, Balkan, Air Europa, Air Malta, Kathargo and any other chartered summer a/c will be returning this year?

TOM will be operating MIR on their own a/c. So Karthago wont be back this yr.
ECA will be operating to LCA on a Sun obo TCX/MYT
Air Malta are back with a wkly MLA. No news on them operating ACE for XL.
TOM are operating x8 wkly flights to PMI, and TOM used AEA last yr, so doubt they will be using them this yr with that high frequency of their own.

Check-in and departures space will be very tight this summer.

Here's hoping FlyBe do see potential in CWL. Baby and BE can play in CWL whilst EZY and Fr battle it out in BRS if FR do eventually expand further.

IMO I think if BE go into CWL with a rapid expansion plan (Which I think they will) then BMI Baby will pull out almost entirely within 2 years. Given they seem to be focusing more on Brum, have struggled with selling Polish routes and not capitalised on a potential monopoly on the lo-co market in recent months.
If I am right then it will be Flybe with the monopoly and they will dictate who Cardiff can and can't have as they have in EXT and SOU. This is one reason I personally think they fell out with BRS. Easyjet were the big boys and BE couldn't contend with Oranges' buying power. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that BE like to prey on small regionals like CWL, NQY, NWI who are looking to expand and make them sell thier souls to the devils! All airlines do, but airport management should be carefull who they choose.

Hi,
Can BE really take baby on at Cardiff? The type of aircraft surely dictate what routes they fly ie BE regional and Baby on Med routes.
I can see there will be competion on the domestic/regional routes for sure! But its only Edinburgh that Baby seem to concentrate on,and toy with Glasgow and Belfast.

Six Nations Traffic

Looks like CWL are going to be really busy for the Six Nations this, lots of flights planned with all types of aircraft

Wales v Scotland
Jet 2 (733)

Wales v Ireland
Monarch (763 & 752)
Thomsonfly (752)
Aer Lingus (332)

Wales v France
Air France (773)
Airlinair (AT4)
Europe Air Post (733)
Axis Airways (734)
Blue Line (M83 & F10)
GIR Jet (F10)
Atlantique Air Assistance (EM2)
TNT International (146)

The French airlift seems to be the busiest by far as is the case most years when France play Wales at home.

BMI baby v Flybe

Have to agree with pipertommy - how can they challenge BMI baby on the bucket & spade routes to ALC,AGP,MJV,PMI & FAO ???? I think there will be room for both airlines - BMI baby on the Med/East Europe routes and Flybe on the domestic & regional routes to France/Belgium etc. Lets hope they both show the potential of routes to the Welsh public !!!!

Pipertommy - the embraer fleet are a simular size to a B737. Lo-co's are all looking into Medium range routes. For example Easyjet now has a range of shiny A320's and 21's to utilise! They wont be flying regional on those.
Airport Route Developers are the only line of defence to prevent the breakdown and demise of lucrative Charter routes.

CWL-NTE is operating 21 Jun - 30 Aug glad to see RE haven't lost faith in us.

Talking to a EMA based BmiBaby crew today and they have heard that if the new a/c arrived as they plan then CWL are to have a 4th a/c for the summer. I know we have been down this road last year but wondering if anybody else has more information?

Mathers, the same captain today said Baby had no expansion plans (other than swapping 500s for 300s), when we were chatting waiting for you to arrive Wish he'd make his mind up

lol looks like were all trying to get some information then phil, and seems like some of them are playing on it.

Apparently on the Flybe front, there will be a check-in desk open from 6am untill the last departure come april, also there will be self check-in desks. Whether or not this is just for flybe or for KLM as well im not sure at the moment.

This will allow passengers the oppourtunity to drop bags off at any point in the day for their flights.

Does anybody else have info on this?

Cheers
