They also announced Krakow and GDN to continue through the summer. I wonder IBZ will be comming back this year? They also said that the current announcements are Phase 1 only and theres a phase 2 to follow soon.

Aviance at Cardiff has won an award by First Choice for best Station in the UK and EIRE. They were also shortlisted for most improved station but that went to Central Load Control at Manchaster.

What a shame that they have pulled out of Cardiff, mind at least they went out on a high.

First Choice and Tui merged

Interesting how you talk of First Choice pulling out of CWL.

They are part of Tui. Have been officially since 2 SEP this year and therefore have only consolidated their programme. Ironic how you still view them as a seperate company!

However, well done for the award.

Even though they are merged, there is still FCA flight numbers and TOM flight numbers and not sure when this will change.

As far as im aware, the airlines will still be operating under their own names for a while yet, just under the TOM AOC.
Whereas MYT/TCX are currently doing that as of this month and will gradually phase out the MYT brand over coming months. (correct me if im wrong - its all very confusing!)
As far as CWL goes, Currently FCA operate TFS/CWL/TFS W pattern with EXT based a/c during winter, there wont be an FCA a/c at CWL as of next summer.
FCA will only exist at CWL as a tour operator. And Vice Versa at BRS.
Therefore FCA have effectively pulled out of CWL in favour of BRS and Vice Versa.
However they have as you say consolidated their programme as TOM are taking over the majority of the FCA flights with their own 757.
It has been talked about that in the long term it will all become one brand (TUIFly), but i dont think anything has been confirmed, as there was talk of TOM concentrating on S/M Haul and FCA concentrating on having such a strong Long Haul brand.

We plan to have a single AOC by May 2008 ,but not a single brand. This has not yet been decided.

TOM Captains and FCA F/O 's will be able to fly together under a single AOC using TUI group SOP'S and visa versa. Cabin crew will take longer to integrate.

Once again the news had it all wrong, they were timing a turnaround of a flight for 25 minutes but in fact the departure time was 10:30 which meant the aircraft went off early.

When the crew are there all day to get the facts they still get it wrong. Apparently the BBC was filming the Jersey this week as BmiBaby are the official airline for Children in Need.

Mathers, calm down matey...most people that would of seen that really wouldnt of given a crap about it, theres more important things to worry about in the news than the turn around of a BABY aircraft, Iran, Pakistan, Avian Flu etc etc...and they would of seen it all before, an aircraft turnaround are dime a dozen on tv nowadays with programmes like Airline, Airport and series following BRS and LTN airports on repeat every few months on Sky.
Have Baby painted an aircraft to celebrate the sponsership as per FCA/Comic Relief style?

baby boom?

Any news on whether baby would start up CWL-BCN? Surely, baby should have released their second wave of regional flights by now.

Wasn't the TOM service to BCN started using public money? Anyone know the details of this? Surely they can't stop it if the subsidy isn't up?

The majority I assume. TOM/FCA are staying as seperate brands until they have decided what to do with them. One would assume that two will become one - and dont be surprised if the Britannia name reappears.

It would probably be the worst move ever if they bring back the Britannia name. You can ask most staff whether they were glad when the Britannia name was dropped and they were. The reason for this is that the on board service was not that of the former Britannia 'royal service' and therefore people were associating an excellent airline (in name) with a second rate on board service. Should they wish to bring the old lady in the wheelchair back - they need to go the whole hog and bring back the royal service. Bring the luxury back into flying!!

Wales really needs to get its act together as far as attracting airlines is concerned. The constant attrition of routes to Bristol from Cardiff is emblematic of a deeper problem within Wales.
Let's face it, for everyone on the correct side of the water, BRS is a pain to get to. CWL doesn't have perfect road links, but it is better than the country road that takes you to BRS, and there is also a rail link now.
Part of the problem is that Cardiff cannot attract passengers from across Wales. The market in the South and Mid Wales is cannibalised by both BRS and BHX, whereas the North belongs to MAN and LPL.
If CWL could attract passengers from the whole of Wales and the borders, this would optimise the chance of winning new scheduled routes. This will not happen without vastly improved road and rail links both within Wales and with England.
Don't even get me started on the playmobil terminal that we have to endure at CWL. Cardiff is trying to take its place as a European capital. It is a shame that the airport is being left behind so comprehensively.

Have heard that Monarch are back for Summer 2008 operating the weekly CWL-SFB flight with an A330. Phew, at least we still have this route !!!!!

Let's hope with the new Management in there will be a flurry of new routes...........be good if Aer Lingus started a DUB service, they have been at CWL quite a bit this season for the football & rugby and selling their tickets on their web page. They are also selling seats via their web page for the Wales v Ireland Six Nations in DUB - flight operated by an A330.

This place just needs to attract one main carrier such as LH, AF, SK at BRS..........what about LX to Switzerland ?? They operated through here weekly to ZRH two years ago on charter flights.

The Emirates link to DXB has gone cold - anymore news on this route ?

Cardiff is the Captial of Wales yet the destinations served resemble a small airport in Outer Mongolia !!!

And how would you demonstrate to the LX management that there is sufficent business traffic between CWL and ZRH to make the investment in such a route an attractive gamble for them to make? Nothng springs to my mind.....

EK - now that sounds a lot more possible - bags of VFR potential from South Wales / South West interlining .... realistic possibility in my view.

EI - if they were interested in CWL they would have jumped in when FR pulled out, proven demand, no real route develoment costs etc - and from what I've been told they have a good relationship with RE.

Airlines are in buisness to make money - prove there is sustainable demand for a route and they will go for it.

Also success tends to breed success - thats the major reason that BRS have had such a roll. If WW commit to CWL (4th/5th unit) and the startup that cannot be mentioned takes off - that could change the whole dynamics of the CWL vs BRS scenario.

My own feeling is that BRS could have some challenges ahead - capacity, local infrastructure, FR and EZY trying to coexist to name but a few.

Interesting times ahead....
