Will be nice to see TCX at LBA instead of the same old things, lets hope that Thomsons will increase with the merger with First Choice.

Delays to bmi charter flights

lbalad - don't know if it was somehow connected, but I was a passenger at HER on Tuesday. Our tickets showed departure at 20:15, but we were told on arrival at the airport that it was rescheduled to 22:20. The A321 arrived at 21:30, but then went technical (anybody know why?). Finally leaving well after midnight. Just as an extra bit of fun, before take off pax were then moved around the aircraft apparently because the luggage had all been wrongly loaded.

Just been on the LBA website and had a quick look at the masterplan but this appears to be the same as the one that was published back in the days of the airport being owned by the various councils. Surely the plans for the airport have been changed with the sale of the airport. Does anybody have any idea of any changes to the masterplan as surely the airport is well past its capabilites at present.

The photo at the start of the masterplans brings back the memories of when two 767's opperated out of the airport. Swefly and Thomason! No more news on LS 767's.

Can anyone comment on the new pushback system in use at LBA, video footage can be found within this link..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwtfN-KqQ3I

Question is, what on earth was going on and how long before we see this new system intergrated at other U.K. airports ??

Dont envy the ground staff at LHR when the A380 comes into service. !!!

Surely that can't be the only reason, the unions must be doing there nut, the risk of Injury must be huge.

I presume that this is down to lack of Emb190 equipment. ???

I would guess that the aircraft parked up before they realised there was no tow bar for it, or the pin had sheared. I do not the think the Emb-190s are regular users of LBA so a tow bar for this new type may not be in place yet.

You may be too young to have witnessed the ultimate push back system adopted by America West at PHX and other US deaprture points in the early 80's when ALL push back's were simply a case of 'engage reverse thrust & open up the throttles' goodness knows who or what was blown away that eventually put a stop to this practice but at the time it was wonderful to witness & kept turn around costs to basically nil.

Spotter LBA,

I don't believe the current owners of LBA are constrained by the masterplan that the old team put together following instruction from central government.

Across the UK many similar masterplans have been knocked back by local objection to expansion so it wouldn't surprise me that government is distancing itself from the expansion policy it set out a few years ago.

It would be interesting to know exactly what minimum expansion agreement (if any) was made with Bridgepoint when the local authorities sold the airport off. We could weedle it out of local government if we make a freedom of information demand.

My gut feeling is that we should all not get too excited by what appeared in the masterplan.

American Airlines did the reverse thrust push back on their 727's in the early 90's. Could be quite alarming as they lurched forward a couple of feet before reversing.

If you read the accompanying info for that YouTube video, you'll see that the poster explains it's due to a lack of towbar for the type at LBA.

Thanks for the info Harrogate....
Was there any need for the "if you had read" dig ???
Why not just tell me the reason without the dig ??
Another fine example of why people are too scared to post on here incase they have missed or should know something.
You complete

Whoa, steady on there. I've just read Harrogate's message, and I don't detect any dig or indeed any ill intent whatsoever. I may not have used quite the same form of words myself, but all he's doing is drawing your attention to the explanatory comments accompanying the video.
A bit of an overreaction, methinks.

You utter hypocrite.

Your response is the very reason I don't post on here any more.

There was no dig.

If you read what I wrote again, you'll see I wrote "if you read" pronounced "reed" and not "red", as you wrongly accuse me of.

I didn't write "if you had read".

I was merely pointing out that there's a description field on YouTube that accompanies the post.

You're the w**nker, chum.

Anyone see the first Shannon flight by Ryanair today? Wondering what the loads were like? Hope it's a successful route for them and maybe they'll dip there toe a little more. I love Jet2 but a little healty competition never goes astray.

Yep I would completely agree with that, I mis-read your post 100% and for that I am sorry.

A thousand apologies for jumping in at the deep end and accusing you of something that you clearly didnt mean.

Again, please accept my apologies.
