not too sure, i think its just turning the area that burger king is in to an airside area and moving central search just after the moving walkway as planned awhile ago, only saw a memo about emergency meeting points, which wasnt very informative on the bigger picture of things.... must be some minor construction on the cards as the contractor Russell Simpson has set-up a significant base where farrans used to be
they are supposed to carry out quite alot of construction (new pier, check-in hall extension etc etc) by 2015.. if they are smart they will get the contracts secured at a cheap rate with the current downturn

Thanks tigger,
So that will mean virtually no landside retail etc...you'll be up the moving walkway, straight into airside? Will provide a lot more room to manage things airside though...

NWSRG, from the plans i heard awhile ago yes, up the walkway and straight into central search.. there will be very little landside, basically the WHSmith and Cafe' in arrivals.. then i think theres a small coffee stand opening in check-in... ofcourse these plans might have changed since i first heard a few months ago
suasdaguna, was repaired on stand (basically enough for it to fly the rest of its routes for the day) after the incident then further work was done during the night, but it did suffer significant damage as the A/C like i mentioned was on a bad angle once parked on stand... PAX could only leave via the front door... A/C went out around 2 hours late..

So that also means no viewing gallery for non-airside visitors then? Dammit as I like passing time in there whilst waiting to collect from arrivals etc! Also I'm sure places like Burger King will suffer a big drop in customers by being air side only?

The viewing gallery has been closed for quite some time anyway. Now the only places to get pics without being airside is from the perimeter fences or at the windows beside Burger king

Viewing gallery might stay landside, as its accessible through the domestic arrivals hall, aswell as the steps before central search, so they might seal off those steps and keep in landside... but like newtownards says.. its been closed for awhile
Looks like TFS might be replacing ACE... as it runs on the same day as the current schedule and comes in round the same time...
Provance, since EI dont really run the same routes as EZY (apart from BCN and the former AMS route) EZY is definately more successful, they suffered a quite period in November (as did all airlines at BFS) and again mid feb - mid march.

Good news with Tenerife on sale. Lanzarote did well for EI this winter, with 3 flights a week, along with twice weekly with TCX. Falcon didn't operate a winter sun programme to ACE this winter due to FUA going bust.
Tenerife for winter 09/10 though will have weekly jet2.com, weekly Thomson, twice weekly TCX and now 3 times a week with Aer Lingus. Is this not slightly optimistic, huge capacity increase from 2 TCX this year, and recession still biting. 7 flights a week to TFS!!!
The viewing gallery was able to be reached from arrivals beside domestic reclaim. When work is complete will this access be blocked also?? Will be a shame to see the viewing gallery go. What reason it is closed at the minute??

I dont think theres any specific reason as to why its been closed for a while
I did have a suspicion that with work starting on a new pier in the gates 12, 13, 14 area that it could be to re-route passengers around any building work, but i havent seen the plans yet.
Im guessing that with central search moving back to the escalators the gallery, if it does stay will most likely just be for those who are airside

Are TOM operating all winter to TFS, or just over Christmas again?
As for EI, I can't see them dropping ACE so quickly, seems to be one of their strongest routes. Maybe it'll end up with two of the three aircraft trotting back and forward to the Canaries most of the winter. Now you know how the TCX lot feel

im hoping thats the case Kestrel, because if EI dropped ACE it would be the biggest mistake they've made at BFS... seats probably are not for sale yet until they decide about MUC and MXP.. fingers crossed anyway
EI should be looking forward to a good income this winter anyway, with TFS and AGP running throughout winter, the flights will no doubt be close to full... if ACE is continued then its even better

tigger, there's no way on gods planet that an a320 was dispatched with a bent nose gear....period. It did a serious of LHR rotations thereafter.
I'm sure you are aware the nose wheel when extended is canted slightly forward. If it was damaged as bad as you make out it would have been (a) ferried to dub with the gear extended on a non pax maint flight or (b) removed from service and had to do gear retraction tests in a hangar etc etc. You'd be suprised the amount of severe compressions landing gear units can take.

As Shanwickman stated, EI flights to ACE on sale Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun,
times seem to be BFS 06.45 - ACE - BFS 16.10.
Flights to TFS on sale Tues, Thurs, Sat,
times BFS 14.40 - TFS - BFS 00.20.
Unless fares are not currently accurate but for TFS base price of £127.33 (£49.99 each way ex charges/tax), however ACE for November base price of £418.46 (cheapest being Mon, wed at £184.99 each way!!!).

I think that TFS may be a great sucess for them, after all one flight a week for Jet2 i really wouldn't consider a threat. It gives us great flexibility and the ability to go for a short break as opposed to a week!
ACE must be very popular at the minute to justify another flight extra every week!
Good luck to them!

EI at BFS W09/10
So we've got one aircraft doing 3 trips a day on BFS-LHR and one aircraft that does ACE & AGP 4 times a week and MUC and TFS 3 times a week.
Is that going to be it? Or can they find some ingenious (and hopefully profitable) way of keeping a third aircraft busy this winter?

I see Rome is not yet bookable from BFS. Was this not alleged to be one of EI's more successful routes from BFS, increasing from 3 to 4 a week for the summer?? Would be a shame if it was then dropped for the winter.
Should get together with one of the tour operators, TUI (Falcon Holidays) or the Thomas Cook group, and have a weekly Agadir flight. Very much doubt it will happen, but it would be something a little different, and still give the Northern Ireland travellers winter sun. Bit more choice than the 4 Canaries, oh and now Egypt.

At this rate will TCX still be able to maintain a base at BFS
Thats competition on most of the W09 routes the exception being FUE and a couple of Ski routes..talking of skiing would EI consider PDV or INN?
On the subject of the EI heavy landing...could this have been a loading issue, seem to remember many moons ago a BA 320 (with airstairs) where all the pax disembarked from the rear first down the front due to the AC being tail heavy.
