Transatlantic

Excellent news NWSRG if forward booking looking healthy. Had heard a while ago that the CO EWR-BFS had, for a month early 2008 maybe March or April, actually carried more passengers than EWR-EDI, GLA, BHX and BRS.
Then a more recent rumour that summer loads looked pretty weak, except for the period over July. Good news also if numbers of US citizens using the service is up, and with the weak dollar!!

On the 762, I believe though may be wrong, that it has more business first seats, but actually slightly less or just the same economy. So if expansion is on the cards, which I wouldn't hold my breath on at the minute, it'd be x10 week 757, rather than daily 762, as more a leisure orientated route.

Any more information on the rumours that FlyGlobespan pulling the Sanford route, to be replaced with a Jet2 service for winter 08/09??
Also notice that Zoom has winter Toronto on sale, but as yet no Vancouver. Is this service being discontinued for the winter??

Flyglobespan have pulled W08 flights to SFB though GLA is only getting the flight 1x weekly on a tue to SFB with the 752.
Flyglobespan are expected to pick this service up again S09 and continue it into W09 end of this year flyglobespan are getting rid of 2 733's, have just got rid of 2 736's and the 3 763's, 1 738 will be on lease W08 so the 752 is needed for European routes W08 as there fleet will be down to 7 a/c until they recive new 737NG and theres talk of another 752.

Have herd nothing about Jet2 taking on the service and doubt it for now as Jet2 have just started the long-haul side of things and probably want to concentrate on there MAN & LBA bases.

See the Bulgarian airport has a new spelling according to the info at Bfs, Burgas not Bourgas. Wouldn't you think that whoever enters this information would know the correct spelling and that it would also be checked.

Also, the roof at the set-down area at Bfs, which extends out over the road, the part you meet first as you drive in. This is meant to protect against the weather, rain. But it leaks and has done so for a long time. Why does Bfs management not do something about this. I'm afarid neither set bfs up as an efficient, well run and maintained international gateway for N.I.

Get the little things right and the big things will fall into place as well.

Pathetic...many places have more than one spelling...Brugge...or Bruges..Parijs/Paris...Munchen/Munich. Belfast Harbour/Hole in the hedge.......I think there is unlikely to be a confusion over which Burgas/Bourgas folks are travelling to....

As for the awning...write to BFS and ask them why.

Just checked Bourgas/Burgas website and found

Burgas Airport is situated in a picturesque bay on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast, 10 km north-east of the city of Burgas which ranks second among Bulgarian municipalities by its well-developed industry.
And then
The mild climate and the meteorological conditions in the region ensure excellent visibility throughout all seasons and 24-hour operation of Bourgas Airport all the year round.

What can they mean.....don't they know that the NI spelling police are watching....as for the condition of their awning......sheesh

Here here, Aldergrove really is a run-down piece of s***e, the management haven't got a clue, they can't even run an effective staff car park, theres never any spaces in the main car park and they clearly don't give a toss as they won't even supply a mini bus between the remote car parks and the terminal.....rant over.....

Thumbs down

Well said Ards Boy! The staff car park is beyond a joke, you have to arrive an hour before your shift to try and get a space - 1500 odd workers and less than 500 spaces, but then again staff parking doesn't earn much revenue for the airport does it! As I understand the airlines / handling companies etc pay the airport for the "privilage" of parking at the airport. The airport is only interested in building more shops to get extra money out of the travelling public. Oh, and of course, you need to leave extra time too while you queue up to get by the sad excuse that is security, because they're too busy sitting in their wee hut drinking tea to come out and check your ID and let you into the carpark!!!

swipe cards

It's time we went back to the system they had at the Aldergrove staff car park circa 1990 - we swiped ourselves in with our pass! True, the barrier was temperamental, in fact on one occasion it came up and lifted a VW beetle of a colleague into the air, iirc, but at least we weren't queued out onto the main road whilst waiting for a tanker/ambulance or lorry to be searched.

Easyjet aborted take-off

On the BBC NI news

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7468956.stm

Doesn't give a date in the article, just Monday. Did this happen today??
Anyone with more details (or more accurate story, media can't be trusted).

Looks like the EZY162 left BFS 10 mins late this morning and arrived in LTN 2:21 late.

I'm a bit bemused as to how anyone onboard that a/c could tell there was a weight distribution problem as they pushed back - unless it was a massive problem, putting his foot on the brakes and the a/c nearly tipping possibly.

I would also hazard a guess that there was no aborted take-off either!!! (Good old BBC)

It was an aborted take-off. The details about the weight issue are the product of the Captain's ramblings on the forward PA. Apparently an ex-British Airways and KLM pilot too. Too much information methinks..particularly the comment about doing a 'wheelie'

A very poorly written article from the BBC... and I suspect some extrapolation of the truth.

Flybe quits BHD-CDG

From today's Irish News -

"Flybe's recently launched service from Belfast to Paris has become the first casualty of the soaring price of oil - which could herald the start of major route cuts from other airlines over the coming months. "

How many more to follow (and what might they be) ?

the Flybe CDG was always a strange one, after all who wants to go via Cardiff? Having said that, there load factor on it was still twice as good as EI last month.
