Is it probable that Russia wanted this and BA got something in return?
BA has got away with operating short haul aircraft on this route in the past but its competitors have upped their game.
It hasn't been confirmed which fleets are operating the flights but in the past what has in part stopped BA putting long haul aircraft on this route are LHR Worldwide crew working practices that don't allow them to do a trip out and back in a day. So I assume that unless BASSA agree to a change in working practices the 747 rotation will be operated by Mixed Fleet.
BA may have also been required to obtain regulatory approval to operate a 747 on this route.

I see yesterday the Summer 2012 schedules for the LGW long haul operation and the much touted long haul expansion at LGW for 2012 has not materialised.
Were the rumours all wrong or has LHR won over at the last minute?

BA ad - works for me!
As SLF and someone with a fair knowledge of the industry, this ad works very well, despite not being around before the days of the VC10. All we need is BA to re-introduce catering on short haul domestic, keep a decent baggage allowance, and as the economy picks up, continue to provide a realistically priced alternative to the harps and oranges of this world. There are enough scrums in life without them. They don't need to be the cheapest, just treat folk right and don't rip us off.
Oh, and for gawd's sake, find a solution that works in the regions. If Lufty can fly internationally from several German destinations, then surely BA could, once again. With the right aircraft! E190 anyone? E170?
Just wishing....

what is its message ?
The other BA staff groups will get their 15 minutes of fame in forthcoming adverts.

Defying stupid advertisement customs and traditions of a core message - it's pretty clear really though - it's the BA product. It's been here from the start with the best pilots and it's still here today with the best pilots and since inception it continues to stick to it's customs and it's four words, all these years on. It's like a better version of the Qantas advert.
I quite like the ad.
But did they remember to get the heraldic permissions to use the coat of arms in Scotland? I seem to recall that they forgot last time - queue much frenzy between BA legal department and the Court of the Lord Lyon....

My comment and the rolling eyes were not intended to be negative around the ad itself, which I thought was quite classy and will pander to those (often fairly well-off) people who recall the "golden days" of flying - it was more around using the SST as a marketing tool when that's all it's become.
I don't see the reason for the negativity.
