BA new routes to Male and San Juan?

Has anyone heard any rumours of BA starting new routes from Gatwick to the Maldives and San Juan?

Wasn't there a route to San Jose several years ago ? What's changed for it now to be considered potentially profitable, and is this an ideal choice if the merger with Iberia goes ahead ?

I travel through San Juan a lot, and we are hearing rumours here that Virgin will fly LGW-SJU weekly from late 2009, really hoping so, that way can avoid Antigua and LIAT!
BA used to fly LGW-SJU, it was an old Caledonian route but stopped quite a few years ago.

Virgin have been flying cruise charters to SJU for the past few years so have the experience of operating from there.

In terms of BA - could it also be something to do with AA? They have (or at least had) a fairly substantial operation at SJU serving the caribbean.

It was a B-CAL route then closed and then BA started up again to close about two or three years after start up

There is obviously a cruise ship market to look after but yields must be looked at the whole year round

My friends in Iberia Madrid tell me this year has been a very poor year for their SJU route

Nice airport and nice airport shopping , though

Malaga John- would love to find this nice airport shopping, transit SJU at least twice monthly and am yet to find it! Next trip is on Sunday on way to YYZ, will look for it again. The airport hotel has improved recently, missed a connection and used it last week, expensive but much improved. If anyone uses it ask for a room on floors 5 or 6, they are same price and are classed as executive rooms, much nicer than other floors.

Dufry of Switzerland bought the airport shops from Bared / Alliance about two years ago

Bared had a good selection but I think Dufry's is quite superior

Dont tell me you havent seen the difference.....

The Duty Free shops, ok they do look a lot smarter, do not bother with them as liquor etc is much cheaper here in our supermarkets. The shops are better in the section of the terminal used by Continental, Us Airways etc, 90% of the time i am using American and their section of the terminal could do with a face lift and some better eating establishments. They do seem to have improved the area where Eagle now board now they are not using the gate 1 lounge but it is all fast food, they need a restaurant.

They're down to six at the minute from the nine flying and one spare of recent years.

Am I right in being under the impression that the start date for the LCY-JFK has slipped again?

I don't see how it can slip when it has never been announced.
But we are planning on last week in Sep.

Thanks for the replies. I must have my head in the sand as i've never seen or heard the LCY-JFK route referred to as Fisher.
