Eventually a way will be found because BA will have to merge with other (plural) or be taken over. No carrier will survive on it's own. I'll put a very generous timescale on this - 10 years - but I expect it will be 5.

Sorry to come back to an older post.

I know that BA are aquiring a number of 777-200 and 777-300 however I have booked to fly from LGW to BDA in May 2009 and the email confirmation states that it will either be a 777-200 or a 777-300. Can this be right as I thought BA weren't taking delivery of the 777-300 for quite some time.

I know that BA often get the confirmations wrong as the MAN - LGW route has been showing as an A319 for ages but a 737 is still opperating.

Its about time though that larger equipment was put on the BDA route as it is often full.

Smile 777s

Spotter - If you're flying in May 09 it will be a -200, the -300s are due for delivery in 2010. There are 4 -200s being delivered in 09. The 300s will be delivered with the new generation of AVOD IFE.

MRS flights moving from LGW to LHR???

On Wednesday I was due to fly out to MRS but the flight was cancelled due to the closure of Marseille Airport because of the snow.

Anyway, I was speaking to a woman on the BA refunds desk who told me that the MRS flights are moving to LHR in April.

Can anyone here confirm this? I have searched various sites including this one and found nothing.

Summer changes at the end of March are yet to be announced. Anything is possible but much depends on the projected bookings. These are OK but could be a lot better.

Surprised by Shanghai (PVG) in the top ten, I am traveling there on 21 Jan just before new year and there seem to be about 20 passengers only. The service is only 4 or 5 times per week say compared with HKG thats 3 times a day. Maybe they are looking forward to the 2010 expo

Thanks for using our PVG service this week - hope you enjoy the flight.

and there seem to be about 20 passengers only.
Take a look around when you board - looks like about 160 "stowaways" plus you & your fellow pax

BA CityFlyer Ltd - British Airways Plc, has recently placed a firm order for six Embraer 170 and five Embraer 190SR efficiency jets in a multi-million dollar investment into renewing its fleet of aircraft.

British Airways has placed firm orders for a fleet of 11 new generation fuel efficient aircraft that will offer passengers unrivalled levels of space and comfort on board.

The airline's wholly owned subsidiary BA CityFlyer is to take delivery of the first of its new Embraer aircraft, which will fly exclusively from London City Airport, from September 2009.

Firm orders have been placed for six Embraer 170 and five Embraer 190SR efficiency jets, known as E-jets, with options for three more in an investment worth US$376 million, based on current list prices.

They will replace the current fleet of 10 Avro RJ100 and two RJ85 aircraft operated by BA CityFlyer. The new aircraft will be greener and more fuel efficient with significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions. This was a key consideration in the order.

The Embraer 190SRs and Embraer 170s will operate on routes from London City Airport to Scotland, Ireland and Europe.

A 'double-bubble' fuselage design means there is more personal space for passengers and with four-abreast seating throughout the aircraft, everyone will have the choice of either a window or aisle seat.

Peter Simpson, managing director of BA CityFlyer, said: "We are very excited about this new fleet of fuel efficient aircraft which will not only help us to meet our environmental objectives but also provide more space and comfort for our customers.

"This significant investment in new aircraft further demonstrates British Airways' commitment to services into and out of London City for our customers.

"Having the combination of the Embraer 170s and 190SRs in the same fleet will give us greater flexibility, enabling us to match capacity with demand on routes within our existing and future network."

Hi Thanks for the info, so thats 180 on a 777, just repeating what the lady from BA told me, better book my seat early then! BA is my airline of preference 100 plus flights in 2008. Still surprised that PVG is one of the top ten destinations.

EGC whats your point mentioning BACF ? the news about a new fleet for BACF has been public knowledge since DEC 22 2008, unless you are making the point that more routes could be given to BACF from LGW/LHR then i dont see the relevance .

now let me see, BA would never change how domestic and SH european flights from LGW and LHR run would they ? for instance using the options for BACF to run more fuel efficiant services from LGW and LHR to replace the domestics eith E190's under the BACF brand ?

now that would never happen would it ? oh wait a min !

@cornish - sounds remarkably similar to AC's recent fleet strategy, in which ERJs and CRJs, some operated by Jazz, have replaced some of the A32x fleet.

The BACF Embraer order has nothing to do with the current strategy for domestics from either LHR or LGW. CF have ordered 11 aircraft (split between 170s and 190s) which are one-for-one replacements of the current Avro RJ100s. Given BACF's penchant for leasing in aircraft without any regard to cost, any growth above 11 aircraft would be firstly used to avoid the need for wet-leases. However, it certainly does not afford any room within the fleet for BACF to be taking over domestic services from BA into either of the other London airports.

Now where exactly the BA domestics to LGW end up is another question all together. They seem to have a nasty habit of putting the worst possible schedules onto the domestic routes and then wondering why they perform badly. Not exactly rocket science, but this has already seen the death of the NCL-LGW route and will yet see other domestic routes to LGW killed off to the benefit of competitors who do understand how to make these routes work.

Actually this is all part of BA's marketing plan to become "The World's Favourite Airline".

They've been steadily working at ways to drop the "British" out of the name by steadily providing poorer and poorer service to more and more of the domestic and short haul market.

Once they have got rid of all their cabin crew, pilots and ground staff on these routes, they can look to change their name to their ultimate aim of "World Airways" and cater solely to the international market into and out of T5.
