T5 was early and under budget, whether it worked or not is regardless!

Seriously, the policy of an open book that BAA has been operating really seems to work. Hope they adapt this with the 3rd runway and T6.

I travel BA lots for work; its really noticeable how in the last 10 years of using them that the quality of service, lounges, less for your money etc etc all has gone down hill with the ticket prices seemingly more expensive then the other carriers and their fare rules being really restrictive.

When I can, I switch to the others like Emirates, Virgin, Singapore etc. Much better services.

And bad news for the airline pension schemes

From the BBC today

A survey by the actuarial firm Watson Wyatt, of 160 companies or their pension schemes, found that 40% of those which are currently still open to new joiners will shut to new entrants in the next three years, as employers seek to rein in their pension costs and provide cheaper pension arrangements for their staff.

And 25% of schemes which are already closed to new joiners will shut to current members as well, which would mean that people already in such schemes would stop accruing additional benefits.

BA Open skies

read yesterday, but can't find it now to quote, that the two ex-BA B757 will be transferred to the French register and no more BA B757s will be transferred. The fleet of 11 B757 will be put up for sale soon when enough A320 are delivered to replace them at LHR.

Will be announced within either the next few days or the next few weeks that BA have a year delay on their B787.8 and a 10 month delay on their B787.9

Think of the compensation!
Good point and possibly some airlines are ordering on assumption that delay will be extensive hence compensation and opportunity to sell on aircraft when delivered.

Summer 09 Terminal changes 3 to 5 and vica versa

British Airways - Latest News

As a result of changes to the Summer 2009 flight schedule, British Airways will move a small number of European services between London Heathrow Terminals 3 and 5.
From 29 March 2009:
· Flights between London Heathrow and Nice will move into Terminal 5.
· As a result flights between London Heathrow and Vienna, currently operating to and from Terminal 5, will move into Terminal 3.
· The airline will also move flights operating between London Heathrow and Malaga into Terminal 3.
The flight moves mean that all British Airways Heathrow flights to and from Spain will operate into and out of Terminal 3 and flight connections will be easier for customers connecting from Nice to the British Airways worldwide network.

MRU downgraded to 3-class 777

I also notice that BA are downgrading MRU over Summer 09 to a 3-class 777. I'm guessing the summer is a quieter time for the MRU service, even so I always thought MRU was quite strong in premium classes for a leisure destination? How come they are not using a 4-class 777, lack of demand or lack of aircraft?

The change to the 777 starts Sunday 7th June to the end of the summer timetable. This is during low season for holiday makers in MRU. When F is usually quiet. The flight is planned to be operated by a newly reconfigured 3 class 777 with 48J instead of the current 36J. It is planned to go back to a 747 for Winter 09/10.

Why would MON be Q'ing up for BA's aging 757 when they are in the middle of retiring their own and replacing them with A321s recently taken from BMI, Spirit and GB/Easyjet?
I cant see Jet2 wanting to take them on either, have heard rumours that th 3 Chinese 757s (AH, AI and AG) were going to be sold on and replaced with B738's but all has gone quiet there.
I had heard DHL wanted the 757s but i heard that the buyer they are going to lease them from has pulled out... so guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Personally i would rather see the G-BUS A320s retired before the final few 757s

The remaining BA 757 fleet is pretty young, some under 10 year old and would be an ideal replacement for the MON 757 fleet, because as has been stated many times, the A321 cannot do everything a 757 can. This is the reason MON were looking to source some replacments.

MON need B757s for some of the airports they operate to such as some of the Greek Islands and correct me if I am wrong but I don't think the A321 can reach Egypt, I may be mistaken.

The BA 757s are quite young and certainly have a huge life ahead of them in passenger service before DHL get their hands of them but obviously we have to see what happens with the trading.

Will be a great shame to see the end of an era for another 757 legacy carrier.
