The most I could see is that if BA end up acquiring bmiRegional that they would spin it off with a BA Franchise as a dowry. I think bmi Regional may be easier to finance with a BA franchise than as a truly independent carrier, as is currently proposed. All of that said, I can't see a huge number of routes that would be attractive and/or viable. Much of the wet-leasing to LH family airlines will probably end quite quickly after any sale. For example BE are now doing some flying for SN.

Re: 767 GLA

Certainly looks that way according to flightmapper schedule.

Was it even necessary in the first place?

CaptainDoony, they are definitely needed on this route. I have operated the flight twice this week and the GLA-LHR sector was over sold on both occasions (a/c capacity is 252).

Maybe what actually is needed then is a better overbooking algorithm for the commercial team.

I have heard that the 763s are only being removed from the domestic schedule to allow for the refurb to continue once the one and only 767 to of been refitted has proven its self

I read the BBC News - London 2012: British Airways Olympics dove plane unveiled article and the video. The bit that has me laughing is the job title of the BA bloke giving the story. He is (quote) David Barnes BA's Operations Manager for External Appearance.

I'm sure that he's a decent fellow and he sounded sensible but I have to say that, once you get titles like that - you are in trouble.

PAXboy - you mean a bit like being put on the 'special projects' team in an office ?
I was thinking more that the company is in trouble if it wants to have someone on TV with that title - bit like local Govt councils in 2007 at the height of the boom having lots of community outreach partnership staff.

Yes, dj6, I did mean that the company was in trouble! The ridiculous titles that have been thought up distance everyone and show that the mgmt has lost touch with how the biz actually works. I have other examples but no time to detail them now

The chap himself seemed like a decent bloke who knew his stuff.

BA at MAN

Someone was asking about the future of BA at MAN. I can't see a return to the sort of operation they once had. I think they have got their business model right now. They offer what many other flag carriers do, a feed into their major hub. The fact that theirs happens to be in the same country is pretty much incidental. Setting up direct services from MAN would pull back some market share, but no doubt with high operating costs. It doesn't seem to make sense for them. We'd love to see more BA tails on the ramp at MAN but now resigned to the fact that probably won't happen. Most MAN fans have stopped ranting about it and accepted the market reality. MAN is doing well enough in any case, with a great choice of flag carriers services into hubs in and beyond Europe. I think we might see a greater BA presence in the future on international routes in the form of code shares and perhaps a bit of franchising. I think the old 'T3BA' signs are still lying in the back of one of the hangars, just in case!

BA will add one additional flight to DUS (7 in total) and BER (6 in total) next winter.

I can't be bothered to go through 92 pages of posts, but what is everyone's opinions on the food boxes that BA offer at the end of long haul flights (especially at the end of inbound night flights).

For me, they are the most pathetic excuse for inflight food you could have.

I have to agree, they have probably got to be some of the worst offerings of any airline on a long-haul flight. Fair enough, no one these days expects a full cooked English breakfast after an overnight long-haul flight, but what British Airways offer is shocking. Even our UK charter airlines offer something more substantial / and better quality. I feel a rethink needs to be on the cards soon in all fairness. Even if they offered some kind of pastry/croissant, together with some fruit/yoghurt and a drink/smoothie it would be much better. The UK Outbound boxes though are not bad at all and these breakfast boxes should match them. Usually there's a mix of sandwich, a cake/scone and jam and a drink cuplet.

Very disappointed with BA's economy diabetic meals on the LHR-NBO-LHR flights recently. Frankly the hot dishes were inedible(particularly the bitter partly-cooked aubergine (in what might have been intended to be moussaka but had no name) and the tomato in the salad on the return leg was slimy and mushy and not from any added vinaigrette. At least the sandwich in the 'snack' on the outbound was acceptable, but the 'breakfast' on the inbound bore no relation to anything I've had in over 50 years of eating a meal of this name - except that the orange juice was drinkable and the quality of the tea served on board was excellent.

Have flown a couple of the longer Euro sectors recently in Club Europe. Ordered a vegetarian breakfast - got some cold chick peas in sauce, I counted them - 12. Ordered a vegetarian lunch - got some cold chick peas, 14 this time. Ordered a vegetarian dinner - well, you guessed it - only back to 12 again. Also, no cabin service at all for 45mins after departure and then drinks, tray and coffee all together, curtain to galley closed, two off duty FAs flounced through and had a staff meeting outside the forward toilet for an hour.

At £200ish per sector in CE for these flights, very poor. No quibbles with anything else with BA, but the food offering, style and selection in comparison with most other carriers is worse than useless. Cabin crew generally excellent but let down by some who want to fly the world but do f-ck all on the way.

You'll both have submitted online complaints and won't be flying with BA again then....?
