I have given my full criticism of the advert in the SLF forum but, for the record:

A truly terrible advert. Restrospection is OK but there is nothing forward looking. The heavy voice is oily and meretricious. A standard waste of good money by a corporate.

BA233 LHR 08:55 DME 15:30 D 747
BA235 LHR 11:05 DME 18:05 D 767
BA237 LHR 21:30 DME 04:55* D 767

BA236 LHR 05:50 DME 06:55 D 767
BA232 LHR 17:20 DME 18:10 D 747
BA234 LHR 19:25 DME 20:30 D 767
The second part of the list, with even numbered ended flight numbers is DME LHR, rather than the other way around.

There is little standard about that advert. It has real hardware and pushes buttons to get boys dreaming of one day having a toy the size of the real thing to command. That's what blew me away, it's what's called a "brand hug" in that it's also aimed at the staff to heal the wounds of the BASSA strikes. It's perhaps a tacit admission that the company partially lost it's way in recent years and is now in touch with the best parts of it's past.
Hence "To fly, to serve".

It's classy and given the current economic climate, a company that's got a heritage and has been around a long time is a message worth getting across. It left me smiling as it was so atypical.

Oh and it had VC10(s). I mean let me say that again, it had the VC10.

Great Ad

I thought the Ad was great.
I take the point about it not looking forward but sometimes it is well worth reminding people exactly what your business has achieved.
It is a total flag waving exercise of course but I applaud BA for spending some cash on underlining the fact that it has 'been there, seen it, done it'.
(No I don't work for them!)

Really? All I saw was a 'hello, we're pilots, aren't we fab' message with a total disregard for the rest of their colleagues.

OK, it doesn't talk about futures, although talk about A380s, 787s, and eating up the BMI routes would leave most punters cold. It doesn't talk about fares. It doesn't go on about how IAG ultimate ownership is brilliant (thank goodness). It doesn't do faux Green-ness (ditto).

What it covers is far more interesting than any of that. Oh and the real stars, way ahead of the featured pilots (apart from the DH9 chap) are all those aircraft

Wonderful Advert

Clear to see the split votes on this one.

However, like one of the earlier Ppruners, it's a "Britishing" of the Qantas Advert. However, it does get the point across. As a punter it nicely developes and image of why I should spend my hard earned money to FLY with British Airways. At a time when fares are pretty much the same, there must be differential between British Airways and all other carriers and the only way to do this is service. Service from the first booking part to the walking out of the airport.
To me British Airways - was - a premium product/airline. Perhaps now there will be extra spend on "the product". Certainly the best foot forward since "the face".

Best of luck and looking forward to flying BA again!.

Sincerely,
Shamrogue

I like the add, and I expect there is more to come such as one highlighting cabin crew and on board service.

BA do seem to be investing something into the on board product, such as hot towels are back in CE and some the food has changed as well.

Great advert with really clever CGI and film editing, voice is a little grating though, the end also endorses how much of a mistake grounding Concorde was as it roars past the VC10 and 747 !!

Agree re Concorde. Seen it on TV (watching during break in CSI as I post this) - it's a truly great advert.

Also a smart move launching the campaign through Facebook, the number of members that "like" BA's page has increased from about 85,000 to over 110,000 in the past week or so.

Slots

Peter47

Per another forum it claimed that they would be used to increase existing short-haul routes in the short-term and then possibly new long-haul destinations in the summer 2012.

I can't remember the short-haul routes mentioned but as you would expect quite a bit of speculation on new long-haul.

Great ad

BA has a long and illustrious history of superb advertising and of being a pioneering and world leading airline. Personally I love the ad, it's classy but reflects on the wonderful heritage and focus on excellence that BA has always embodied.

It makes me proud to be british, makes me proud to fly BA and as a pilot of a rival airline makes me want to work for them.

This industry dearly needs companies like BA that push the frontiers of what's possible both in terms of service excellence and technical innovation. When you fly with the LCC's don't kid yourself for a moment that you're getting what BA offers - you're not.

Spot on.

makes me proud to fly BA
Not after watching last night's Watchdog on BBC1. It seems the only way to get any form of compensation or your money back from them is to advertise the problem with an outside body such as a consumer programme, or even on here:

Apologies if this has already been posted, but here's a quickie from The Bun (producer of quality journalism since red hit the top) which I just spotted:

- THE boss of BRITISH AIRWAYS and IBERIA has ruled out a bid for AER LINGUS because of its whopping pension deficit. Willie Walsh said he was more interested in BMI and Portgual's TAP. He added: "There are plenty of other things I can be doing."
