On the EZY front I wouldn't be surprised if the two lost aircraft were not returned next summer...
I would !! I know of a few people who work / based at NCL & the word is somewhat downbeat. There is this prevailing opinion that at NCL it is extremely difficult to make any real money at all on none 'bucket & spade routes' . Like anything the ecconomic reality is that the aircraft will only return if it is perceived that they can provide a greater contribution to the EZY 'bottom line' based at NCL rather than at some other base

As ive said in the past and been shot down in flames the evidence suggests EZY are loosing interest in NCL. However I am not sure all the routes they have dropped lately were loosing money. My understanding from industry insiders are that both Berlin and Rome provided decent yields.

A real chance exists for Jet2 to step in here and pick up the pieces or indeed may I even suggest Ryanair, although this one is a total longshot as they dont seem to like NE airports (look at their route network)

Of course its disappointing not to see major route development for the winter from Newcastle with locos. But patience!!. The top dogs will be off to the routes conference to speak to hundreds of airlines and promote the North East. Last time they come back with Emirates, so who knows who they may come back with this time!!

CE and MD of Jet2 been spotted in NCL a number of times the last few weeks. Officially to renew contract but sources from Swiort and NCL Airport say meetings were to do with handling 'larger aircraft', baggage pallets and extra check-in spaces.

That fits in nicely with the bigger aircraft rumor that's circling Galley FM in Jet2, as well as a bigger drive towards www.jet2holidays.com

There is also a big recruitment drive going on for flight deck and cabin crew staff at the moment.................. apprently!?

If Jet2 are going to get bigger a/c they wanna get a decent handling agent first... just a shame at NCL there is slim pickings! I think they should go self handling

Summer 2008

i have put a timetable together of how things look upto now
my timetable information has been gathered from tour opertors summer sun brochures and websites. other websites offering flights from ncl.

Some routes which have been rumoured not to be going ahead are shown on timetable this is becasue the routes are still bookable. These are mainly mytravel and libra holidays.

timetable is on my group newcastleairportspotterstimetable on msn groups.

have a look if you want and please tell me any other information which i have missed and i will correct.

MYT codes are still being used at the minute website hasn't changed them to TCX as of yet.

There are a range of short haul destinations that NCL still lacks, to ensure a good coverage of european routes, whether they be operated by loco, charter or full scheduled carriers. Maybe the airport management may well come back with a few new announcements from the Routes conference, lets hope so.

Madrid, Venice, Croatia, Scandinavia, Germany, eastern Europe, Athens, more charter variety instead of a milliion flights to ALC, PMI, IBZ and AGP? The european business centres of FRA etc surely could sustain a regional service, though slots are obviously a problem?

Maybe existing services could be increased, the LH DUS seems to do very well, as is the CPH?

re the discussions as to whether EZY or going cool on NCL or not, is there any relevance in the fact that we haven't got 319's yet? I suppose somebody has to be last, but is there any physical reason (route structure, physical limitations, etc) which makes 73's more suitable? Can't think of any, but the only other conclusion seems to be that we don't need the extra capacity as routes aren't pulling up any trees when compared to other bases.

re Transwede's comments on destinations, Venice has also seemed a likely choice to me and the north east in general seems to be well down on east european routes (Liverpool alone has over 30 flights a week to Poland!). HLX has already tried and dropped MUC and CGN, and personaly, can't see any other European business routes in the near future (much as I'd like to see ZRH, FRA, MAD, MXP).

As seen in yesterday's Sunday Times Appointments supplement.

Newcastle CEO - up to £160k + excellent package.

Now all the people who believe that they can run the airport more efficiently than the current incumbents have their chance!

Good luck to whoever decides to throw their hat in the ring.
I'm sure you'd be able to struggle along on those meagre pickings.

There is very little difference in the aircraft range and performance, as you say someone has to be last. Its not indicitive to the airport performance as BFS as well as EZY HQ LTN are also 700 bases.

ps on another note i was in Abu Dhabi this week where the DXB-NCL was getting good air time on local radio with special mention to Earl Grey! after all NCL is quintessentially english isn't it?

I think I saw a Jet2 advert at a Metro station for ski flights to Chambery, Geneva and Salzburg.

Jet2

The adverts are standard ones and should not be regarded as an indicator that Salzburg or Geneva are going to be new routes from Newcastle. In the Summer they regularly ran adverts for routes from NCL which included Faro which as you all know was never offered by Jet2. With the Winter season starting in a month and a bit time Id also be suprised to see any late additions to the Jet2 route network from NCL for the winter.

Rumour has it an announcement of new routes for SO8 from NCL due from Jet2 in the next couple of weeks, so I suppose watch this space. Apparently a long haul route is a serious possibility, SFB?
