BIG E, Of course you could be right. But things seem to have gone from one extreme to the other on this route.
It will be interesting to see what hapens with Easyjet at NCL when next summers schedules are released.??????????

My thought processes are based on many years in the airline industry, probably a lot more that you and if I feel that negativity is due then a negative post will be made. If you look at previous posts I have been more that supportive of other operators at NCL recently these include - Jet2, XL, Flyjet so its not a case of been negative just for the sake of it.
I have also pointed out that EZY management beleive they can improve revenue by moving aircraft from NCL to BFS and developing routes from that base. However by doing so does this not support my theory that they are loosing interest in NCL and that the base here will go the same way as EMA which has seen little or no expansion/development for a while. I have never indicated that airlines should introduce routes for the sake of it but given the evidence to hand the yields on many, not all the routes, they have reduced in the last couple of years must have made the airline money. EZY management however believe that they can make even more money by stationing the aircraft elsewhere which is obviously bad for NCLs future plans but good in this case for BFS.
My feelings towards how EZY and the routes they have from the NCL base are based on detailed analysis of the pax loads on those routes and how they have developed or not as the case may be. In particular the example I gave was the STN route where after a number of years on this route the number of rotations to STN are no better than that of 2002 when Go flew the route despite passenger figures climbing by approx 25% between 2002 and 2007. flydutchman hit the nail on the head when they stated that 5 rotations a day were probably too much but 3 or indeed 2 during a lot of the winter timetable are not adequate to service demand. If of course you have any facts to disprove this then I welcome them.
With regard to your last post well it really does not warrant too sensible a reply but if you have some spare funds under your bed ill happily take them off you and start up an airline to prove my point!!! However my understading is by the time this happens a couple of the routes may have already been picked up by another operator with Rome albeit to Fiumicino been the first.

I've seen so many routes and airlines come and go at NCL that I would not like to count them.
Unfortunately I do not work for EZY or SA so I do not have access to detailed pax numbers on individual schedules.
Comments that say that when an airline is not expanding or is actually contracting at an airport have lost interest in the airport are the ones that wind me up.

I suspect the reason why BFS is getting more attention is due to the fact Aer Lingus are about to set up camp there and has thus become a priority as previously there was very little competion for ezy ex BFS. Strategic planning looking at the bigger picture.

Press release dated 7th August on the Aer Arann website announces that they will be flying charter flights to all of the Sunderland FC home games this season.
First flight on Saturday 11th... Dublin - Newcastle for the opening Tottenham match.

My guess is that NCL will see a cut in capacity on some routes in the coming year, both on low cost services and on charter flights, mainly due to the consolidation in the industry.
Already we have seen a drop in services by EZY, whether these will be restored for next summer, we will have to wait and see. The XL group have severely cut their leisure network for the winter and next summer. What aircaraft will be based and what routes and number of rotations we'll see from TOM and TCX/MYT still has not yet been confirmed.
There are also rumours going around that BA are considering dropping LHR, though I can't quite picture that happening, but I suppose BMI is a likely candidate to pick it up if it should happen.
Gaps stil appear in the NCL network, maybe we could see a few new routes added? Heres hoping....

As for the rest of this thread, I don't think we can read too much into what is happening over the winter into what will happen next summer, they must be 2 largely different markets.

DUB-NCL Charter
Its Aer Arann not Aer Lingus, Aer Lingus have recently announced that they are dropping their Saturday flight to NCL.
Why NCL over MME? direct metro train from the airport to the stadium of erm.. light, however the train passes right through the centre of Newcastle.

Sunderlans AFC charters
My understanding is that as they have been organised by the Dublin arm of the SAFC supports club coaches will take them to Sunderland and back. Hence the choice of NCL over MME the distance by road is a lot less

All this about Sunderland, strips and worry about going through NCL and the city.
Just shows how low football has become.
All of you NCL people should wander down the road from the airport to the new Druid Park (next to the Wheatsheaf, the old Blue Star ground) where a cooling pint and a chance to observe the proper ball sport called rugby. Arrive in any club strip but be warned that if you wear a club tie (quaint idea I know) you may suffer from the snip of the scissors.
Did anyone else see in the Finacial Pages that SilverJet have formally announced that they are winding up FlyJet at the end of the season? Think it was in the Times on Tuesday.
