EZY Just shows how times have changed, perhaps I have a longer memory than some on this thread. It's not many years since that 5 EZY based 73's over the winter would have been unimaginable. It's been said many times that the demand for Loco is not insatiable, nothing stays the same & things tend to go round in cycles. What you are seeing now is the unfortunate backlash of Jet 2 undermining EZY's expansion at NCL by putting excess supply on routes to areas that have a traditional high demand resulting in pressure on EZY's high end load factors on these routes, these routes in turn on aggregate support the overall base contribution specifically on routes where lower loads were experienced on BRS or where ever.
The short term answer is to pull supply, which is what EZY have done by withdrawing aircraft & possibly looking at enhanced utilisation of based units on W's or whatever.
W08 ends March 08 & it's onwards from there that needs to be of concern, & I haven't a crystal ball as to what routes are to be offered. What is quite clear is that to an extent decisions will be influenced by the course of the actions of Jet2. For my part I think things have got a bit silly S07 & loads returned are showing that at least at NCL supply has grown far faster than demand, which may take some time to catch up. Throwing new routes into such a scenario when all they would do is substitute - replace services which have an existing market is not necessarily a sound strategy either irrespective as to how sexy it sounds to be able to offer MAD, VCE or wherever.

STN & BRS well the Chancellors (sorry PM’s) APD tax take has caused the reductions, if it had been that easy to get people to pay another £10 on a round trip fare the airlines would have done it already! What it has done is reduce demand and Easyjet have reacted accordingly but they look to have protected the schedule for business passengers at least. On European routes the effect has not been as marked but it still eats into profit margins!

CIA has gone because Easyjet have had to reduce their slot holding there due environmental concerns, so NCL and BFS went. Rumours in the Italian press are that Ryanair (and I guess all other airlines using CIA) may have to move to FCO!

The reduction in CDG frequency will be good news for Air France/Brit Air as it will strengthen their business on this important route.

Note the increase in KRK frequency, doing well for both Easy and J2! Should we be looking east for further expansion, my local Tesco is starting to put up signs in English and Polish!

GVA is starting mid-December as it does from a number of the airports they serve.

Overall, Easyjet are operating a programme which they can make money from given that they have a choice as to where they can fly from. The overall UK market is tough with virtually no growth at present so after three-four good years some slowing of growth/consolidation is only natural. At least NCL is in a stronger position than many other airports are at present!

If it’s that tough at NCL what must it be like at MME…………

Easyjet

Skyman771
Your comments re the reduction from Easyjet is a backlash because of Jet2 undermining there expansion by putting excess supply on Easyjets high demand routes etc is Spot on!!.
I wonder if they try to continue with this as they cant be doing well either.

I suspect that it is equally as tough at MME to answer your question.

I do find it strange however that EZY reduce capacity at NCL and it is (quite rightly) described in certain quarters as being necessary to make money yet when GSM reduce capacity at MME the whole operation is called into question!

blah
I guess because Easy have planned ahead and cut at a natural gap i.e. summer/winter without disrupting any ones travel plans as opposed to GSM who cut capacity suddenly mid summer and disrupted lots of people!

Valid point, but then again GSM don't have the luxury of operating from the North East for 5 years like EZY

Blah - Yes your right, but GSM don't have any competition at MME or have been hit by domestic APD...... Lets agree again its a tough time at mo.

NCL to CWL

Anybody know why T3 only do this route twice daily.
Looking at EZY to BRS volumes and the yields T3 must be getting, would seem like a non brainer to increase frequency before another LCC has a sniff at it?

Flybe would be an obvious choice on this one, although with their crewing problems it'll be a while before they can base in either CWL or NCL.

Rome

Theres still a few gaps so maybe added later.

If not how about FR moving in on this route.
They pulled the rome from mme due to poor loads people still travelled from ncl with easyjet. If easyjet has stopped this route it would be perfect for FR to move in and try again but this time from NCL?

New York

I know im starting on new york again but what do you guys think of this.

it might not be so bad jet2 doing this route instead of CO.
I think that AA have scared CO DL off anyway for the time being.

Lets hope jet2 do move onto this route maybe on 2 or 3 times a week but say they build up the route over say 12 months. Other airlines like CO may then move in once the route is up and going and they see the loads of Jet2.
It would be less of a risk for CO if another airline is prepared to take that risk.

HH Ryanair were pushing 9000 a month out of MME to Rome they were actually carrying more from MME than Easyjet were out of NCL so the reason they dropped it was not because of poor loads.

ONION

It could have been to do with yields.

HH

I don't think FR would do CIA because they are having the same difficulty as EZY, being told that they must move out of CIA to the (new) airport.

Yeah I think it had more to do with yields and being told that they had to reduce flights than load factors, just trying to keep it all fact based rather than perception based.

NCL to CWL Dragon Tracker seem to have missed a vital point T3 are not a Loco ! They serve a demand on a completely different price structure pitched more at the business market. They don't 'buy' volume. Twice daily fits more into a business market normally to offer ability to return same day. Putting additional intermediate timings is not necessarily catering to demand particularly as in T3's pricing there isn't much room for lower fares.

Ive worked out the easyjet timetable so far

5 aircraft are needed mon-fri
6 aircraft are needed sat and sun

even during the weekdays there are plenty of gaps so rome may be getting added next week along with some new routes.

one of the aircraft on saturdays 1st flight at the minute is ALC at 09.40
so there's plenty of time to add a LTN then?
