I think BE could definitely make LGW work especially if they had a BA codeshare on the route. A lot of the traffic used to be connecting pax and business pax (who like their BA Miles)!

If LS do drop it hopefully someone will make it work!

CRJ Cross wind landing

Nice pictures on the BBC national news tonight of CRJ cross wind landing. Passengers in the right side windows would have had a great view of the runway on approach - put down perfectly though.
Can't find it on the BBc web site unfortunately.

jet2

maybe the 2 new routes could be milan since FR is pulling it and maybe madrid?

i couldnt see them doing ALC!

If the lgw goes then my guess is if somebody is to take over it, it will be easyjet. just think of all the different routes they now have on offer from lgw.
flybe may have the right size aircraft for the route but they dont have the network at lgw as easyjet does.

i thought the aircraft at lba on the news was a bmi 145?

Could well have been a EMB145 come to think of it, only caught the article out the corner of my eye.

It wasnt a commercial jet, it was a private business jet of some sort, looked like Learjet to me.
Cant see FlyBE doing LGW, they wanted to buy the 3x daily slots from Jet2 for their LGW-NQY service to rival BA. If anyone takes up LGW it will be easyjet.

But from a commercial perspective if BE did get the slots and start NQY-LGW they would be competing with WOW and BA. If they did NCL-LGW they would have the route all to themselves.

EZY might be good but I still doubt they will be able to make it work...it needs some sort of connection capability and EZY don't offer that.

Then my friend, you should have gone to Specsavers. Quite clearly a E145 and definitely landing on R32 at LBA. Either one of the ex-BACON fleet or the Star Alliance BMI Regional paint job.

Learjet indeed.

The BBC new clip was much shorter and ended after touchdown, things become much clearer when you see it turn off the runway. On centre line wings level - good going!

I haven't seen the article but do you think this might be the same as Stavanger and be a Newcastle - Southampton - Angers

The Southampton - Angers operates 3 x weekly

Just a thought...I could be wrong

Indeed you are correct Jamesair. Both Newcastle and Leeds connect into the Southampton - Angers route

NEWCASTLE - GATWICK

The situation gets ever more confusing. Apparently the 3 pairs of slots at Gatwick used for this service have been sold to Flybe apparently for use on a Newquay route. With the NCL service ending allegedly in March.

However, the route is still on sale at Jet 2 after that date.

The big questions are....1. Is it true?....2. Will Flybe take over the route?
3. Will Easyjet operate it? bearing in mind they have cut 3 frequencies from their STN route. 4. Will we lose the route altogether?

Any answers out there?

Ncl-lgw

FLYBE will Fly NCL-LGW, have it on highest authority. Flybe will have rescued two LGW domestic routes in a month(ABZ). Orange were only interested in a one a day, mid day, and wanted the rest of the slots to fill already announced services.

LGW

Jamesair - Yes the apparent rumour is the slots have been sold to FLYBE however I think the NQY rumour may well be a smoke screen for the real route. I can't imagine, but you never know as it a funny old business, that the passengers are in the NQY area to fill a FLYBE LGW - NQY, Ryanair STN - NQY, BA LGW - NQY and Air Southwest LGW - NQY. Unless FLYBE are of course party to some data the rest of the airline industry aint.

jet2holidays

Newcastle - Rhodes, now on sale.

LS to operate the flight on a wednesday afternoon, unless poor sales dictate otherwise and seats will be bought from another charter carrier.

LS flights from LGW-NCL cannot now be booked past 29/3.

I hope someone picks up the route at least!

What it will boil down to is economics - though I would think this is an attractive proposition for BE:

Dec 07 NCL-LGW stats 7262
Dec 07 NQY-LGW stats 5120

And as a comparison for BE NCL-SOU Dec 07 stats on three times daily: 8426

The figures aren't so far out and if they want to I think they could pull it off - even twice daily initially.
