With the exception of last year there have been a couple of Turkish Charters a week during the summer months, but I'm not sure which holiday company it was for. For what ever reason they did not happen last year.

The flights prior to last year were operated by Onur for several years. But prior to Onur, Pegasus operated them.

So I guess if the charterer is using Luton again, they will go with the airline that does the best deal

Latest seems to be Turkish charters on Onur Air (as before), Pegasus and Freebird (new to Luton I believe).

So we have a couple of dozen protest groups now!! All with their own agendas no doubt....why not join an existing one or are those so unknown or unable to bring their case forward?, except in local press?? Sorry another dig at some local reporters!

Well anything to do with Luton, Harpenden will just jump on top of it - hardly a shock that.

Yet it is no doubt their airport of choice when they want to fly somewhere.

And how many of them have moved to the area in the last 40 years? In which case the airport was there first.

They should have been living there in the 70s and 80s when 1-11s were the norm.

A few years ago I worked with a guy whose father was quite vociferous about the noise from the aircraft landing at Luton. He lived near Hitchin. I asked him one day if he had to fly anywhere where did he fly from - Luton of course came reply. I just said ŽI rest my caseŽ.

When high speed train routes are planned to run through an area causing a high environmenral impact it sometimes happens that the train has to go through a tunnel instead. Perhaps a new airport could be designed to keep the noise down by having planes take off and land underground ? Would so reduce the noise for the locals

I was, then the 737-200s.

In fact Kinsborune Green had quite a few pilots (ex RAF) as did Hatchin Green. A good few worked at Hatfield for BAe as well at Luton Airport (Court Line Days).

Whenever I go back to Harpenden, it seems full of stangers now!

Harpenden

It is interesting to note that when Harpenden complain against the prospect of Luton airport growth-due to environmental impact- it is a shame they do not mention how many homes within Harpenden have very large swimming pools, which I am sure has an even more impportant impact on our water resources! In turn everytime a Monarch passes over their gardens I am sure the noise from the wings causes them disturbance? Just maybe that is why the Monarch butterfly is dwindling in habitats!

Pabely, I'm also old enough to remember the Court Line 1-11's blasting off one after the another (they always left in numbers) especially at around 2am! They managed 4 separate waves of flights per day in the early 70's as most were only going to Palma, Alicante, Ibiza etc and other short hops.

Come to that I can remember the Connies roof-hopping with an engine out, but that's another topic!

I lived in Harpenden during those days and still make regular return visits. Yes, lots of Harpenden residents work at LTN and use the airport. I still travel up from the west country to use the airport myself (usually for a ZB flight), and I still take a bike ride up to the runway sometimes!

Not all the Harp. residents are Ladacan supporters by any means.
