Bournemouth’s July 2003 passenger figures under “Pallet Man’s” final year of running an airport was 38,769 passengers. He walks into a job with Luton’s July figures passing 1,000,000, which is some 27 times higher than the Bournemouth total.
It’s like a football manager from a non league side with no form or success under his belt who then quits the game for 4 years being put in charge of a premier team.

Must be a demand for 'even cheaper' Eastern European labour in the UK. Are the Bulgarians & Romanians now undercutting the Poles?
'Pallet Man'. Well it depends upon what the 'headhunters' have been tasked with finding? was their remit:
Find a 'Go-Getting' youngster with masses of large airport experience, or
Find someone who has worked at an airport before who is cheap?
Only speculation of course, but proven leadership comes at a price?
My BAA sauce (tomato) tells me that SkyEurope will depart Essex owing the BAA nothing (hopefully). There is some pleasure in the fact that their (BAA) fingers have not been burnt........Volare!
I see easyJet are desperate. £2 per bag per flight for hold baggage!

I disagree.
Charging for checked-in luggage enables you to significantly counteract the costs (i.e. handling and fuel) associated with hold luggage while concurrently gaining (potentially) considerable ancillary revenue, in a time when establishing as many secondary revenue streams is of fundamental importance.
It also helps to offer lower airfares, and it’s also another way to help increase personalisation and thus choice. For example, I rarely have checked-in luggage, but if I wanted to take it I'd have to pay for it. It is, to me at least, blindlingly obvious. And so I’m glad that those who do take it pay directly for it, like those who want onboard refreshments, scratch cards or whatever else, and priority boarding, etc, pay for it, while those who don't want it don't pay for it.
It does, in my opinion, help to increase choice, and it gives you power to decide what you do and don't want rather than it all being inclusive.

So how does the "take carry-on baggage only" sit with "only 1 piece of carry-on baggage allowed"? And remember a lady's handbag counts as 1 bag. If you have to take toileteries then you probably don't have any choice but to check your bags. Perhaps a little bit of opportunism here by all of them.

I doubt if easyJet will be cutting fares as a result of their 'bag tax', quite simply it is profiteering.
Are per route culling, I am aware of one, with others a possibility. It would be too easy for me to make you guess?

Right. Got you. Also see BFS & EDI down to 4 x daily for the winter(at the mo)
Silverjet took a second dive in the shares market today when it officially
announced cessation of flyjet charters from 31 Oct 07. Down 22% to about 84p, probably the lowest ever. They dropped 20% two weeks ago, on the news of the delay of the second EWR due to tech probs with the original flyjet 767.

How can the Lo-Co's make any money out of flying at the moment? Add ancillary costs to the ticket!
I wonder if a German city will continue to be served once daily next winter? Doubt if there will be a press release, just emails to disgruntled passengers already booked?
Trust me, next summer will be a blood bath, assuming no consolidation amongst the UK Lo-Co's!

Sofia-London
I can't believe this one from the press 'Low-cost carrier British Midland has also announced plans to launch flights to Sofia from London's Luton airport this fall.'
