Yes Luton Airport has dedicated armed Police at the airport that show up in the terminal as and when required.

Now that the Stansted subsides have gone the airport is now not so appealing to the airlines. Some people posting here seem to find it hard to accept that it was only subsides that kept some carries at Stansted.

according to el-al security they assumed LTN was only a third rate airport, not third world!
Only your second post and already you are lying

Has the alternative "drop-off" zone now been built in the mid-term car park ?
If so, where is it, and can it be accessed separately, without going through the normal entry/exit barriers to the car park. Will you then take the normal MTCP shuttle bus to the terminal, or is a dedicated coach being used, thus avoiding the £1 charge.

only repeating a conversation with a member of thier staff on friday. Having accepted they have a difficult job to do i get on fine with them, with your attitude of accusing people of being liars i can see trouble ahead.

New (past) operators

How about Styrian Spirit, end Dec 2005, then Air Turquoise 28 Mar 2006? Believe Styrian actually ceased ops just before Turquoise started, lets hope any new carriers are more long-lived!

You have to realise that LTNman is somewhat bitter and twisted when it comes to Stansted being undeniably superior to Luton.Has obviously been refused a job at Stn.

sat1, check back to 1991 and the exodus of airlines to the BAA's white elephant.

Passengers flying from Heathrow were directly subsidising airlines and their passengers from Stansted. Without the subsidies, the terminal at Stansted would have had more use as a greenhouse than as London's third airport.

The tide has finally turned, without runway 2 Stansted is doomed toward negative growth. The BAA are no longer in the position of being able to cross subsidise the loss maker in Essex, so the only way to make Stansted pay is for the airlines to cough up more, so they move to Luton or Stansted. Norwegian are yet another airline vacating London's 3rd airport, they won't be the last.

Stansted will only have a real value if it can be sold with planning permission for the second runway, without it, the elephant is not only white but dying a slow death!

Airport Website

Still no reference to the drop-off zone charge, and the map of the central area still shows the Silverjet terminal!

March Passenger Figures

Figures just published nice and early for Luton show that a total of 672,514 passengers passed through the terminal a drop of 19.8 per cent. Annual throughput is shown as 9,766,481 a drop of 3.3 per cent. Air Transport movements were down 14.4 per cent. Of course Easter was in March in 2008 so the figures for all airports are somewhat misleading and we will have to wait for the May figures to get a more accurate trend in passenger numbers.

Birmingham has been knocking on LTN's door for the last year or so, to re-gain their position at Britains 5th busiest airport. But the airport has always managed to stay slighty ahead of our Brummie friends...

However BHX did pip the airport to the post, they managed to get 674,301 passengers through the doors in March. In comparison they only saw a 7.7% drop in figures.

Hopefully with the new services to Romania, Bulgaria and Israel this should hopefully bulster the figures for the summer months!

-----------------------------------------------

Anyone able to provide a link to the latest UK airport passenger stats? I obtained BHX's figures from their website.

BHX is doing fairly well at the moment compared to some airports
but they could be looking over their shoulders rather than what is
in front with EDI having 20000 more pax in March, a smaller decrease % than most airports and they have two more based Ryanair airctaft
arriving this summer.

If you go back through my 2,400 odd posts, I predicted a down turn, but not its intensity. Blimey it has been savage!

I have also stated many times that passenger throughput is not indicative of profit.

My only pleasure will come when Stansted and Luton compete on even terms. This tide is turning. I wonder just how many folk flying from Heathrow realised they were subtly paying for an airport in Essex?

Birmingham serves its region, whilst Luton has grown despite cross subsidisation right in the face of the BAA and it's white elephant!

Question: Will HM Government allow runway 2 at Stansted, thus boosting it's value when it is put up for sale?

What saddens me is that ACDL should have the plans for Luton's infrastructure upgrades also out for consultation. I fear once again, Luton has missed 'the boat'!

Who knows what politics are going on in Spain?

The airport authority had been using the excuse that because not all of the new revised central road layout had been completed this was still having an impact on traffic flows.

Well it is finished now and yet despite people in yellow coats holding arriving traffic back to allow cars to leave the drop off area, early morning tailbacks are still extending onto the new dual carriageway by the Ibis.

Still no signs of any entry and exit barriers going up and with only a single feed back onto the roundabout traffic flows will decrease even further if only a single barrier is put up on the exit.

Changing the subject Easyjet are now on their summer timetable. The 8:20 departure to Glasgow has been replaced by a 7:10 departure. I was on this flight last Monday with the wife and kids and was surprised to see that a total of only 41 passengers were using this service particularly as the next flight, which used to leave mid morning, has been put back to 14:05.

How many times can you repeat this?, is not this forum supposed to be for news , not for somebody who obviously has a very large chip on their shoulder to keep repeating their personal views.

Oh dear, I can feel my eye lids getting heavy as I read this drivel.

Spain gave us the 3 tenors and now this thread has given us the 3 turds.

3 pointless posts from 3 pointless people who contribute nothing to this thread and can only slag people off.
