It looks, from the figures so far published by the CAA, that most major UK airports saw a reduction of around 10-15% on their November passenger figures compared to the previous 12 months. Luton has not revealed its stats yet.

i see that the new Wizzair service to Kiev starts today (the 17th) with four services weekly hopefully rising to a daily service from the end of March. Scheduled departure time ex Luton is 1300 hrs local. Good luck to all.

Did I miss some Virgin heavy metal at LTN???
Remember three Laker 10's years ago

"Virgin Atlantic has claimed that it will withhold paying BAA £100,000 in fees, after last week's runway closure at Gatwick Airport.
The Richard Branson-owned airline has said that it will deduct the costs it incurred as a result of BAA's closure of London Gatwick's runway, after the Spanish operator failed to de-ice it in time for morning arrivals.
As a result of this oversight, Virgin was forced to delay flights and divert seven aircraft to Luton Airport and London Stansted Airport.

Sir Richard Branson believes that the failure to predict cold weather was a sign of incompetence. He said: "Thousands of our passengers were disrupted … BAA will have to pick up these costs as it created the problem in the first place.""

I am sure Olney will know if the ramp was full of A340's and B747's with red tails.

Whilst a couple of Virgin 747-100/200's have been to Luton over the years no aircraft from their current fleet (747-400/A340) have ever visited.

For the record, the runway problems at Gatwick last week resulted in four diversions from Gatwick - 1 x TOM 767 and 3 x EZY A319's. No Virgin aircraft.

Only one 747-400 has ever visited Luton - a BA example

Only one A340 has ever visited Luton - a Brunei Government aircraft.

Didn't they fly that route before around 10 years ago together with Guernsey?

Some years ago Flybe started Luton-Jersey 3x a day with F27s (that tells you how long ago it was!). It quickly reduced to 1x a day, and was later dropped altogether (possibly after 9/11).

It does indeed look like the new link road to the airport will be opening before Christmas but with much of the route coned off for single lane working I doubt there will be any improvement in journey times to and from the M1 until at least March.

It also looks like traffic from the airport will have to temporarily give way to traffic on the A505. I can see this causing more traffic jams than it cures.

LTNman -

You were right about the M1 - now running with 4 lanes open both ways between J10 and the M25 - and a very short journey even at busy times. I hope the airport will make every effort to promote good communications, now they are finally in place. Luton will be easier to reach than LGW from Central London, with clear motorway to M25 and North Circular, good train services from both north and especially south.

Sorry to be nostaligic but the BRS stuff reminds of a paper version - a card of movements published for spectators each weekend c.1968. Anyone else remember them - i still have one-

Probably a little off topic, but were there *really* summer-sun charters from the UK to Bulgaria in the depths of the cold war ? Young whipper-snappers like me hadn't even been born then...

Mods - feel free to move this post to somewhere else if this is too off-topic....

Well, I flew Luton to Bucharest on a Tarom Il-18 in 1976 for a week's tour of Transylvania.

No quite, there will be no overnight or weekend cross London trains for at least the next 12 months and that the upgrade won't be finished until 2015 but at least the airport shuttle bus will be able to make a quicker journey with its new dedicated road from the station forecourt.
