Think just one aircraft is Luton based so that is the only aircraft in the first wave (before 7:30). Best have a look at the flight board late tonight at London Luton Airport for times

It is in fact a KTW-based aircraft night stopping in LTN (summer season).
Morning flight (to DEB, BOJ or SPU) departs at 05 UTC.

Quick question (have no idea where to place this, but is close enough to LTN) - was near RAF Henlow earlier today and a group of four military jets (possibly Eurofighters) passed over doing several circuits around the Bedfordshire area - any idea why?

Exceptionally loud; noiser than normal commercial jets that pass round here. Didn't realise how loud they were!

I saw them as well in two groups of two doing two or three circuits of the Shefford/Henlow area. I think they were F15's in a holding pattern heading waiting their slot do display at Duxford but thats just a guess but would have been well clear of LTN airspace

I did think F15s at the time, but thought why would there be F15s in UK airspace!

Edit: You're absolutely right...

Seems somewhat bizarre that Signature spend millions building a new hangar which allows them to rent out their old hangar to Gulfstream only for Gulfstream to move into their new hangar with Signature moving back into their old hangar.

No sooner have Signature vacated their custom built hangar that was built for them that they announce a new FBO on the same site without a hangar attached so they have to build yet another new hangar but this time on the opposite side of the airport when they had a new hangar built for them next door.

I see that Luton Council will be asking the operating company running Luton Airport to pick up the tab for the £400,000 loss the council made at its Love Luton Festival.

Passenger Levels

In relation to year on year levels:

Gatwick +2.9%
Luton +2.8%
London City +2.6%
Heathrow +1.4%
Stansted -4.8%

From all the media hype in relation to the Olympics, I thought Luton (or every other airport) would have been expecting guarenteed growth in passenger levels for both July and August period? Clearly not!

Looking at the domestic services, I would say The Aberdeen and Inverness flights appear to be showing the biggest reduction in passenger levels at Luton.

At least ZB are intent on increasing their route network at LTN. I do wonder what their intentions are considering they're investing in a brand new base at EMA. Rarely you see the big passenger loads on the B752 or AB6 (or even the A332 could be used?), with only A320/1s being used at LTN.

Interesting news article on BBC Look East about the Luton expansion...

Explains the plans in a little more detail and brief interview with Glyn Jones, to average man on the street...

BBC News - Luton Airport: Noise fears over expansion plans

I am all for people having views for and against the expansion, but one thing in the article that really p*ssed me off, is the NIMBY's and how they exaggerate and lie about the situation. To the average person on the street they will probably believe them.

The NIMBY in the interview goes on about how aircraft have got louder and larger in recent years, and flying further making of a disturbance!

If anything that is a fragrant lie if anything aircraft have got smaller, quieter and more modern! We don't see Monarch's A300's, Thomson's 767s, MyTravels DC-10's or Caledonians Tristars flying into the airport. Thomson are now flying more routes with 737's.

Nearly all routes are operated by 737, 757 (which are becoming rarer), A319, A320 and A321. With EL-AL sending in the occassional 767 and you probably can count on a single hand the amount of 777's they fly into the airport each year.

Cargo flights which are few and far between, could possibly be the only culprit with DHL and MNG sending in A300's and the very occasional MD-11 from VarigLog, with equestrian flights.

(Edit, just found out VarigLog have retired their MD-11's!)

Just found a far better link and news article...

This is on the BBC Iplayer...
BBC iPlayer - Look East - East: 14/09/2012

This was from Friday evening news edition and the article is about 6-7 minutes long, with a live interview with Glyn Jones.

HOWEVER
The BBC Iplayer says this is only available until about 6pm tonight!

The article starts at 4:45minutes into the show.

Also a brief interview with easyJet, that publicly support the plans.

During the Interview with Glyn Jones at 9mins 15secs, anyone notice the cheeky chappy in the background jump out of his car to get his flight, and not using the Drop Down Zone!

Some of the a/c stats from the most recent AMR (2010), to back up Gilles' point.

Just 183 movements involving A300 pax/cargo a/c. Compared to nearly 35,000 on the A319/20/21 and around 23-24,000 on the B737. About 1,000 on the B757 (surprised it's that low), about 250 on the B767, 2 on the A330 and just 6 on the B777.

The later ones could be replaced by the virtually silent B787.

And on prehistoric aircraft there were just 18 A310s and 18 B727s and about 100ish on McDonnell Douglas a/c.

Where did you hear this from?

I think any expansion plans for Luton from Monarch will be on hold for a year or two. The airline needs to source atleast 5-6 additional aircraft, just to cover the additional expansion from East Midlands, Leeds-Bradford and Birmingham...

At present the airline is wet leasing 737's from some European carriers, to cover this expansion. But doing this, is expensive and cannot fully carrry through Monarch's brand, so I am sure they will want to get their own metal and crew flying these routes first.

I hope not, but in the short term, it wouldn't surprise me if an aircraft was trimmed from the Luton base and the schedule tweaked to operate from one of the new bases and doing something similar from LGW and MAN.

Seen it and cringed at the NIMBY report.
I lived under the flight path for ten years when Court line and Dan air were using the airport.
What annoyed me was people moving in and then complaining about the noise.
Why move in in the first place.
I have no time for these people and to be honest the plans will be given the green light anyway as its within the perimeter of the airport.
What would be great is if the government gave the go ahead for compulsive land purchase into hertfordshire for the airport to grow to 30mppa.
Then they might have something to complain about!!!
Rant over
