At least there are no queues to get into the CTA anymore in the mornings, just a degree( and patience ) needed to get back out then!
LTNman, nice pics.Just a question what is planned for buildings 104 and 82- are they destined to be for Ocean Sky FBO?

Long Haul @LTN

The forum remains quiet for weeks and then the suddenly two additional pages appear in just a week!

Anyway, don't forget Monarch use to operate one of their A330-200's non-stop to Orlando around 2000-2001. 9/11 soon put a stop to the route!

I'd imagine that was a tight fit, to clear the runway fully loaded with 9hrs of fuel and 300+ passengers?!

It does annoy me how the Tour Operators seem so short sighted with their Long Haul traffic and flying from just Gatwick is sufficient to cover these routes from the London area.

Living in Northants, that's nearly a three hour drive if the M25 is reasonably busy. Manchester suddenly becomes a more attractive destination to fly from.

Apparently the 787 is supposed to have excellent runway performance! Bristol airport decided not to extend their 6000ft runway a few years back, taking the view new aircraft like this will be able to use the airport and attract new non-stop long haul routes.

Just for interest.

Monarch announced that it was to wet-lease two B737-300s from Aurela and Small Planet Airlines as well as two B737-400s from Air Explore and Air Italy from the end of July to be able to offer additional flights during the peak leisure travel season in the UK.

Unfortunately none of this additional capacity is coming Luton's way...

When BA announced it's intention to shut down BMI Baby, with the immediate withdrawal of some routes and others in September. Monarch stepped in to fill these gaps at Birmingham and East Mids, as their immediate fleet is already pretty maxed out and getting hold of good quality A320/321's at short notice is almost impossible, they have decided to wet lease these aircraft to cover the routes.

From what understand all the 737's will be based at Birmingham and East Midlands. Passengers flying these new routes will more or less just be flying Monarch by name, and the above airlines will be operating their own crew and aircraft.

This is only meant to be short term measure and the airline should have obtained Airbus's for next season.

Do you mean 104 and 72? 72 is being knocked down leaving 104. Don't think 104 is being taken over.

Building 72 is the left hand side of the photo with 104 being the right hand side of this former Britannia building. This photo was taken sometime ago. Today all the roads here are dug up.

This is the new additional drop off area. As can be seen no one seems to be using it. The entrance is to the side of the coach park entrance which is located inside the existing drop off area. (just follow the line of the fence)

Looks ok. I suppose the extra few metres that it adds to the walk to the terminal is putting people off, so they continue to pile into the congested space as before.

Yeah that's the ones, been a long time since I was around the back so forgot the building numbers.
So is the Ocean Sky FBO a new build next to the hangar? For some reason I just assumed they would be using one of the existing buildings.

They are but it is this one with the brown brick, the ground floor which is open is being filled in and a canopy will be added to keep passengers dry. It is this building that restricts the size of aircraft that can use taxiway Echo. Building 72 which also can be seen in this photo will become a car park.

Many thanks for that , now it's making sense.
Do you know what the width restrictions on Echo are?Presumably they must be able to get the Dreamliner past it to get it to H61.
The airport are obviously not worried too much or else they would have insisted it came down as well.

Any Dreamlines will have to come in via Taxiway Alpha and over the bridge.

Lots of Exec traffic today with a few positioning out to Cranfield, I assume tomorrow will be maxed out for stands!

Delta A319 arrived around 0800 BST this morning with USA Olympic basketball team. It departed about one hour later (approximately).

Dozens of biz jets arrived this morning including a Chinese reg. G5. ATC did a good job of co-ordinating the departures with at times continuous stream of arrivals.

Half a dozen Chinese-registered biz jets today including an Air China BBJ.
Presumably B-ABC series are Formosa and B-1234 series are Mainland China? Examples of both were in today.

Even the Thomson hangar is being used to park exec jets. Those that can't stay are going off to Cranfield
