Does this even affect Adria as an EU airline?

Long haul from Luton

It was either 1988 or 1989 that I flew with Monarch on a Boeing 757 from Luton to Orlando. We stopped in Maine north of New York to re-fuel. On the return flight we spent three quarters of an hour flying through severe weather that entailed everyone holding onto their seats as we were violently chucked around! I have to say that generally I do not mind turbulence but when I heard the cabin crew panicking from the aft galley- that was my prompt to start panicking

Let's not forget that Britannia operated Boeing 767's from Luton to New Zealand!

Who knows, just maybe we might pick up some long hauls?

Maybe the airport could pick up some of the subcontinent traffic on PIA (possibly via Dubai?) if they have suitable aircraft. It's madness IMO that there isn't a route to Pakistan or India from Luton.

Probably shouldn't speculate about this sort of thing, but on Adria, aren't they on the verge of going pop anyway? Or at least in a precarious financial position?

What opportunities there would be with an extra 1000m of runway.

Adria flights are only seasonal finishing end of Sept 12 and starting again end of Mar 13 ( wed/fri/sat/sun)
Thats assuming Wizz don't go daily on the Ljubljana route from next year ( currently tue/thur/sat from Oct).
At the moment they compliment each other but will that last.I reckon Adria will unfortunately go if Wizz up the schedule.

El Al is the only current user that could be tempted to Interline.

Brings up the old question of low cost ,long haul possibilities. An American low cost coming to Europe?Maybe an option?.

Silverjet showed that demand is there from LTN to the US at the right price and I am really surprised that none of the charter airlines still fail to operate a Orlando route from LTN
When was it last that it existed?.Monarch via CWL ?

Wouldn't it be great if LTN could tempt somebody like Scoot to get a link to Singapore, then IMHO we would be getting somewhere!

Regarding Orlando, BY did indeed operate there from LTN in the past.
However, to guarantee a non-stop flight outbound only two aircraft in the fleet then could be used (the CF6-80C equipped 767-200's G-BYAA/AB)

The 767's that operated the Australia/New Zealand flights from LTN made their first fuel-stop originally at Sharjah.

Grrr

I was on the second ever flight direct back in May 1989.

Luton will be the busiest airport to host exec jets during the Olympics, sadly with an average of 50 movements in total per day during the slot allocation period, the airport will be frankly quiet! There are some busy days, but nothing like the Champions League 2011.

Mr Bust (and the lady with the blue rinse), I think you'll cope!

I have noticed over the last few days that exec aircraft parked at Luton seem somewhat thin on the ground. The negative Olympics effect maybe?

I see that the Brazilian Olympic football team and the Japanese Olympic swimming team have passed through Luton’s terminal this week.

I passed through the terminal on Thursday, but I didn't get a mention!

From what I can make out the extra biz jets will just fill the summer slump that normally occurs.

Ocean Sky update

Stand 10 is being extended north. This was the site of the former Britannia ops building, the old control tower and origional wooden terminal.

While the former flying club and the site of hangar 129 is being turned into a new apron

The new drop off zone couldn't be more complicated if they tried! The traffic has been reduced, but they couldn't have sent you more around the houses if they tried!

The new drop off is an additional drop off area but next to no one seems to be using it. I will post a couple of photos later today
