According to my information Ryanair at Stansted will base an additional 20 airfrmaes and operate all 70 24/7 during the period of the Olympics. Pity Luton is so short of parking!

"...hundreds of holiday makers missed their Easyjet flights on Monday..."
Whether this is news or not, but not good publicity for the airport, especially during a busty period like Christmas, when the airport should be geared up to handle these peak travel demands!

Good to see the airport sticking up for itself, instead of the usual "no comment" line they usually get.
But not totally buying the managing directors line, as if "hundreds" of passengers did miss their flights, something has clearly gone wrong!

So STN has room, good luck to them, well I suppose they are in decline and need the business!
Seriously, it is going to be good times for the whole of UK plc.

Just had a look at the online arrivals and departure boards.
Between 7:00 and 8:00 there are 16 arrivals and 17 departures. Add another 15 minutes to that and departures increases to 25 with 1 further arrival. At that point the departure board could do with a page 2. So that’s 42 planned movements in only 75 minutes excluding biz jets, a rate of 1 movement every 2 minutes.
Stansted's total is 36 for the same 75 minute period.
I wouldn’t like to be passing through immigration or security at Luton early today.

EXPERIENCE AT LUTON
Departed yesterday the 22nd after being on a cruise to the Middle Est and Asia. I have to say it was the worst experience of travelling through Luton I have ever had. Two check-in desks for the Monarch flights to Gibraltar and Malaga (A320 and A321) but two check-in desks for gold card holders and drop bags etc. Then just before the escalators to security being shouted at by people (I say the word loosely) about hand baggage and liquids. For a moment I thought I was at a Nuremburg rally! Then security just totally overwhelmed - did there best with all 10 stations open. Fortunately the flight left on time. Spent 49 hours in the UK - 49 too many!
I will be putting my aviation thoughts of airlines and airports in India and Asia and Gatwick South and Heathrow on the Self Loading Freight forum in due course if anybody is interested. All I can say it was a most pleasant experience with one exception and being treated like human beings and people actually smiling!

"being shouted at by people (I say the word loosely)"...
Compton. You may not have intended any any insult, but I think I detect some sort of intellectual or social superiority here.
The Airport staff concerned were almost certainly doing the job they were instructed to do the best they were able.
Fast Eddie.

Eddie - Not going on at the people it is just the system - totally wrong you can ask people nicely but it seems not to happen in the UK. The first thing you notice when you return to the UK is the number of signs and notices telling you cannot do this, you cannot go there - do not park there etc. I tell you go to Asia and see how they do it - with a smile. Thats where the future is not Europe or the USA. Also I am not a superioty type just liked to be treated like everybody else with a bit of respect thank you. Cheers

The reporter needs to research his story better before publishing it.
Err the airport has just closed due to a lack of passengers
Err the airport could well close due to a lack of passengers
Expansion is also expected at Plymouth, which is likely to see its passenger numbers quadruple to 4million a year by 2050.
The number of people passing through Teesside airport is projected to increase from 3million to 10million a year.

Manchester will see the number of passengers it handles soar from 30million to 56million a year by the middle of the century
It must be a quiet news day and looking at the above about Manchester which is less than 20m but they built a second runway on these projections!

The airport have been refused planning permission to change the road layout in the central area. This is due to the fact that the airport has not carried out an environmental impact assessment.

Wizz Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik now loaded for S12 but not yet bookable its only twice weekly Wed and Sun.
Interestingly if this is so it means with Split being Tue , Thur , Sat that the Luton overnight based a/c will be operating a new route on Mon and Fri.
Paphos is one possibility being branded around.
Any other ideas?

London Luton seeks to boost annual capacity to 18m
London Luton Airport is aiming to boost its capacity to 18 million passengers a year from the existing maximum throughput of 11.5 million, in order to meet increasing demand for air travel in the southeast UK.
The airport plans to achieve this by using its existing runway and making modifications to aircraft taxiways, aprons, piers and parking stands.
Changes will also likely be made to the passenger terminal, surrounding road network and airport car parks.
A public consultation on the proposed project will run from 6 February until 5 March, during which time feedback and suggestions from local businesses and residents will be sought.
"We will consult actively and listen carefully ahead of submitting a planning application to enhance this important people's asset, but we must be ready to embrace market demand in the future," said Robin Harris, chairman of London Luton Airport Limited (LLAL), which owns the airport on behalf of Luton Borough Council.
"The need for additional airport capacity in the south east of England and the enormous growth that low-cost carriers have demonstrated in recent years gives us every confidence that London Luton Airport will continue to become ever-more attractive to both existing and new airlines."
LLAL expects the project to create up to 6,000 new jobs.
London Luton forecasts that it will handle 10.2 million passengers in 2012.
