Do you think the airport is not very happy with Monarch pulling an aircraft out, and I wonder if it is coming across on their website?! (In a subtle way...)

The airport is always proud to boast new routes and will announce them with a fanfare on their website - with a good old press release... This isn't the case with the new Rome service!

Not a sausage!

They would however rather boast about the Tel-Aviv service with easyJet, celebrating its second anniversary...

Anyone know yet what frequencies or routes yet have been cut by Monarch to make way for one less aircraft flying from the airport and to squeeze in the 3x weekly Rome service?

Planning application for new road layout PlanNet - Luton Borough Council

Note the planning application website seems to go off line each night

A very quick look seems to show traffic lights being switch on again but just to let busses and coaches out with the whole of the short term car park becoming a drop off area.

Im going for Keflavik.

Compete with Iceland Express.

Wouldn't be surprised to see this rolled out across some other UK bases.

Grrr

Okay and this is very much speculation, but........

My info indicated a 6th Monarch aircraft was due to based, but parking issues meant that it could not be accommodated.

So if the new MON business plan was to increase destinations and rotations, has the Luton expansion been thwarted by the Birmingham baby implosion and chance to catch a 'falling' market?

Buster, I think you are spot on. More concrete needed! Another six pack would enable MON, TOM, EZY and WIZZ to use them overnight straight away!

LTNman, thanks for the link to plans. Looks like the extra 6 pack will not happen, but this is always possible on the other side of taxiway Delta.
Part of the Ocean Sky area and Staff parking looks like it will go eventually.
At least the main traffic flow will be routed away from the roundabout bottleneck.

So where could that go? Wasn't the short term carpark/drop off area originally earmarked for this. That looks unlikely now with the new road planning application for the drop off zone etc, having been submitted.

It was always envisaged and planned to put a further six stands south of the current eastern apron but I can well understand the desire to sort out the terminal access first. The problem with building east of twy D is that is the site of the old Council refuse tip and the ground is/was (?) badly affected by methane. It was one site looked at for a control tower but rejected.

Had time now to look more closely at the planning application. On the site layout 2 of 2 it mentions that the Ocean Sky building by the south stands has temporary consent that expires on 1 January 2014. The plan shows two road layouts for the coach park, phase 1 goes around Ocean Sky and Phase 2 goes through the middle of their building. It would seem that the south stands will become airline stands from that date.

The plan also shows that on both phase 1 and 2 the coach lane clings to the airside fence and goes through easyjet’s car park.

There will be a second set of traffic lights to let cars into and out of the mid term car park.

It is clear that any thought of turning the short term car park into aircraft stands has now been abandoned.

The problem with building east of twy D is that is the site of the old Council refuse tip
Then Harrods hangars were built they were pulling out rubbish that looked like it had just been buried.

LTNman-many thanks for the posting of the layout plans. We will have to wait for the final draft to see how much of the future area will be allocated to "short term parking" and how much designated to the "drop off area" once through the barriers.
Shame they didnt do this years ago to stop the travel chaos at peak times.

On another note ,with the loss of the Easy 737s will the based units remain the same for S12 with additional 320s coming in.I ask this as a quick look at July flights sees a loss of frequency on several of the city routes compared to S11.

Falcon - is this a loss of frequency purely from mid July to late August when aircraft are diverted from city routes to beach routes or does the frequency drop apply to early July, before school holidays start as well ?

Grrr

As there are fewer departures in the morning now the winter schedules have kicked in, are there stand issues with the massed Wizz arrivals?

Now that Monarch seemed to have secured 2 additional airframes for next summer, I do wonder if the 5th aircraft will remain at Luton?

The removing of the A320 from LTN was with the full knowledge of the two additional A320s.

davidjohnson6,
Yeah i picked up on the Milan route which slowly decreases from 2xdaily to one flight a day from July 7th(morning rotation goes)
Have been trying to make a comparison from this summer but you are correct as most reductions start in the first week of July-Lisbon for example loses 3 flights a week from then.
Just curious if Easy will maintain 16(i think) based units for S12 after the loss of the 737s and will they will be replaced with 319s or 320s.

gilesdavies

Still no release on the airport website of the Rome flights-interesting
