Wizz Air

Are reducing Bucharest flights this winter due to night curfew changes by Banaesa Airport. 10% mentioned (2 flights per week?).

Olympics

One thing not mentioned in the CAA document was a relaxation of night curfews for the duration of the Olympics. This would benefit LHR and LGW most I suspect.

LANAG.... wtf

The spokesman for LANAG (= LADACAN?) in the article posted by Pabely said he could trace an additional 54 employees at the airport per million passengers.
I don't think he's looking very hard. That implies an additional 324 people working at the airport since the heady days of 1973! As Eric Morecambe said "the boy's a fool!"

LANAG

They are listed as a Group: Luton Airport Noice Action Group.

I like the other name of another group which is PAIN.

So rumours of the old McAlpine hangars being knocked down making way for additional parking could be possible?

The Signature hangars are always full of aircraft so what would be gained apart from them getting wet.

I think you will find LTNman that a lot of Signature´s customers demand there aircraft to be hangared and are prepared to pay the extra for the service. That is one of the reasons I would think they would want to keep them.
PS Great picture Buster never seen that one before.

The lead story in the Sunday rag is the council complaining that an existing Department of Transport report that says Luton should not expand beyond 15m passengers until 2050. Also the Highways Agency has instructed the council not to grant planning permission before M1-J10A improvements are made, which funding is still being sort.

Luton and Southend History

Further to what has been said about Luton's gain being Southend's loss, am I not correct in saying that Bernard Collins was the airport director who was associated with the success of the re-born Luton Airport?

Bernard was the Airport Commandant at Southend in the 1950's and had much to do with achieving its status as a busy airport. Growing utterly frustrated with Southend Corporation, who seemed practically in the pocket of the anti-airport group, he left Southend to become Director of Luton and was the main man in turning the then 'sleepy' Luton into the 'new' Southend all those years ago.

Many of us felt very downhearted when he left Southend as we knew that he would do for Luton what he had done for Southend. It was the same downhearted feeling we shared when it was announced by the government that the equally 'sleepy' Gatwick was to be made into the second London Airport. Gatwick was to be shut for two years whilst being re-developed and we felt that this was the moment for Southend to grab the initiative whilst Gatwick was off circuit but, as anticipated, Southend Corporation did absolutely nothing, other than listen to a vociferous minority of anti-airport ignoramuses.

Where will Signature go, Whipsnade....... or somewhere East?
Last time I passed the Zoo a couple of weeks ago the Car Park was very busy, not even kids holidays.
Can't see any new hangers or FBO ops going there???

If any FBO will be moved on I would have thought it would be Ocean Sky and that won't happen for a long while. Anyway I don't think Ocean lease the whole of the south stands but only a section of it so there is already a stand or two available.

There was talk of extending the south stands towards taxiway Delta but nothing happened. Also since Britannia ops building was knocked down there is room there to increase the apron to the east of Ocean Sky's hangar

They should have stuck with Luton as their London destination instead of moving the bulk of the flights to Southend coastal airport. Passengers wanted a daily link to Luton but Aer Arann thought that by sending most of their flights to the East Coast their passengers would put up with it. Well clearly it has back fired.

Looks like Aer Aranm are closing all flights out of Galway this winter and not just LTN...

They are claiming they will be unviable during the winter months, SEN, MAN and EDI routes will also not be operated.
