UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley on the 28th, Man U (boo!) vs. Barca

Many Spaniards and people not from Manchester will presumably be attending!

The FA are directing all Spanish originating traffic to Essex ... not sure if this only supporters charters or whether it includes biz traffic too.

Can't see why the FA or FIFA would have any control over VVIP traffic and if it's going to be that busy as EGGS why would they want to get caught up with the charter traffic. Isn't that the joy of being a VVIP customer, you would choose the most convenient 24 x 7 gateway for a quick getaway in the small hours?

Stansted is an underutilised airport with I assume plenty of spare spots to park aircraft. Due to night stoppers Luton fills up so with many football charters not departing to after midnight this would limit Luton’s availability.

It’s a shame as Wembley is a quick hop from Luton While Stansted is a bit of a trek.

It is time they started pouring more concrete for aircraft parking. The shortage of space is a problem that will not go away if they want more passengers.

I suspect that another consideration in Stansted being the preferred entry points fo the spanish commercial flights is not just the limited aircraft parking spaces, but the lack of space (for coaches) near the terminal that could make handling the volume passengers envisaged a potential nightmare!

Think all of the above are correct.
Yes there is obviously a demand for more concrete to be laid but the plain simple fact is the Airport infrastructure simply cannot cope with Passenger figures in excess of 10 Million.
I have said previously that Luton needs another rethink in planning-stop all bar public transport from going under the taxiway and create a proper pick up/ drop off area around the mid term car park with undercover parking and a transit system to the terminal-
I have heard that the Barcelona team and Press flights will come to Luton and loads of biz movements-If any charters come i am not sure but as G-APDK quite rightly states where would they put all the coaches.

I don't think anyone is questioning the coach issue at Luton. If the final would have been between two none UK teams then plans would be in place for this already. As it is just one now then it is a smaller logistics plan.
It is just the fact that it has been reported that you must use Stansted only is the talking point. It has capacity so is the logical choice.
Those football supporters who have a choice in their entry point will want to use an airport nearer to Wembley with 24 x 7.

Seem to remember that Stansted has a night time curfew on departures so don’t know if that will affect them.
I also remember that in the 90’s that passengers were coached straight to their aircraft without even going into the old terminal during the last European football final that was held at Wembley.

April passenger figures

Passenger figures for April 2011 were 801,136 a 35.9 percentage increase on April 2010. The rolling 12 month figure is 9,023,491 up 1.7 per cent. Air Transport Movements were 6,072 up 26.8 percent. Comparisons to 2010 are irrelevant because of the Ash Cloud and Easter being earlier in 2010.

Re- night stoppers, can someone tell me how many based EZY airframes night-stop these days? From their schedules I would guess around 15 to 16.

Just out of interest, I notice that at the present moment departures from LTN seem to be taking a different departure route and heavily banking towards the S/SE (more than usual). I know theres a few storms in the area presently; would this be a reason for it?

Curiosity is my downfall...

Wizz Air appear to be dropping Varna from 29 October.

Jamie2k9 - do you mean dropping for good, or just suspending for the winter, while a Bulgarian beach loses its appeal ?

Impossible to know at this stage whether its a seasonal or permanent cut, of possibly an outside chance it will be loaded for winter at a later date (though unlikely with similar LTN-Bourgas loaded for winter), but I'm sure they have previously operated Varna year round, albeit at a far lower winter frequency
