Grrr

Galway and Waterford are both bookable from Luton next summer. Would appear that one service stops at Waterford en-route Galway, but I have no idea if this already occurs anyway?

Arann have been close to oblivion, so I doubt if they would want to give up on Luton even with the Stobart cash to keep em alive.

So if Scot still have any fire and Arann do go, I'd love to see them have a go at GWY and Waterford (again) ex LTN. Not sure if they could get the fares low enough for leisure traffic though, but a smaller and faster aeroplane (Do328).
Currently both Galway flights on Tuesday and Wednesday operate via Waterford as does the midday rotation on Friday and Sunday. From next week both services on Saturday also operate via Waterford.

This does not effect Waterford loads but with 50% of flights from Galway operating via Waterford must effect the numbers from Galway. Total flight time from Galwy is about 2h 30.

October Passenger Figures

Just released by the CAA show that the provisional passenger figures for October were 821,561 a 1.3 per cent increase over October 2009. This is the first monthly increase for many months. The rolling annual figure is 8,720,147 down 5.4 per cent.
This means that Edinburgh has overtaken Luton as the fifth busiest passenger airport in the UK. The difference is passenger numbers is just over 6,000.
Air Transport movement for Luton in October were down 3.9 per cent on the corresponding period last year.

Aer Arann

An e-mail from Aer Arann in regaurd to Luton flights:

Thank you for your e-mail.

At the moment, it is likely that we will include flights from Southend to Galway and Waterford in the future. However, no decision has been made at present to withdraw the Luton routes.

Kind Regards,

Kind Regards,
Responses from airlines like this make me so annoyed!

How can they continue to market a route for next summer which they may have already decided will not exist and be moved to another airport?!

I need to be looking at making travel arrangements to travel to western Ireland in May next year and looking to book pretty soon as I am a cost concious traveller, wanting to get the best possible deal...

I am not prepared to be taking the risk of booking a flight with Aer Arran to Galway, thinking I will be flying from Luton only to be told nearer the time it could possibly be from Southend. I live in Wellingborough and Southend would be over a 100 mile journey!

So I have decided to look at travelling with Aer Lingus to Shannon from Birmingham - which ironically is a codeshared service by Aer Arran.

Bah! I hope there's a bit of sarcasm in that... can't see the situation improving any time soon! I hear we should be getting some snow by the end of next week so we shall sit back and watch the madness unfold once again!

Is there problems at LTN tonight?

Just looking on the LTN arrivals board and noticed there are a few diversions...

Two Thomson flights from Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada have been diverted and a Monarch flight from Tenerife.

All other flights seem to be arriving...

Doesn't say where the flights have been diverted to...

I live up in Northamptonshire and pretty foggy here, is it foggy down in Luton? I would be surprised if it is the case, but could it be due to these aircraft not having equipment to land in limited visibility?

Giles,

The diversions are inbound from Birmingham, closed due to an accident.

Sorry my apologies, not seen the news today.

But just read about it now. Sounds bad, BHX is not due to open until 12 noon tomorrow.

Wonder if there will be anymore diversions? I would expect the majority are going to East Mids, Coventry or Manchester.

All Ryanair flights from BHX are operating from East-Midlands. Aer Arann diverted WAT - BHX flight earlier this evening.

The diversions last night were from Gatwick, due to a blocked runway. A Thomson B757 or B767 left some rubber on the runway at Sharm departing for Gatwick. it landed OK at Gatwick but blocked the runway for 30 minutes.

All the Birmingham divs went to EMA and Manchester.

Grrr

I take it that the Flybe flights to Edinburgh and Glasgow from May onward are via a connecting flight? The trouble is, their timetable unlike their drop down routes (when you select Luton as the departing airport) do not offer these flights.

Mind you, not long ago Newcastle appeared as a destination on the drop down route menu and never happened.

Of course, NEVER down to LTN having nothing like sufficient snow clearing equipment!

Like to name a UK airport that has sufficient snow clearing equipment!

How do you define sufficient ? Closures at no more than 1 day in 3 years ? 1 day in 10 years ? 1 day in 30 years ?

I suspect even somewhere like Helsinki has to close every now and again when the weather turns *really* nasty

I am glad I am no longer involved in snow clearing. About the only thing I learnt is you can never be right, especially with all the armchair experts around here ready to give you advice. No matter how much snow clearing kit you have, you never have enough.

Nurse, where's my cocoa!?
