Pabely...Re your LTN-STN rant..your words..(oh & give it up by the way)...you are wrong & wrong...Firstly though, I think the word you were trying to spell was "subsidy"...However to the facts..Stansted Airport Limited publishes its Regulatory Accounts,for the latest google them,there is no subsidy,cross or otherwise,(although I know that mirage continues to fester within the Luton forum)..And wrong again Pabely regarding Ryanair,they are & have been a major campaigner for new ownership of Stansted...Hope this helps,Best Regards,The Southside..

Yes but there was subsidy, fact, monopolies and merger commission stated this in 2007 after all the major infrastructure was put in place. Yes this no longer happens.
MOL has his own agenda, what did he say "yesterday's reversal for BAA was nothing less than the forces of good triumphing over the evil empire." He will only want the lowest cost, and why not, why else did he turn up with the press at the high court this week!

NATS put air traffic managment changes on ice
CONTROVERSIAL plans to queue aircraft in the skies above Huntingdonshire have been shelved because of low passenger numbers.
The National Air Traffic Service (NATS) had wanted to allow planes waiting to land at Luton Airport to enter a stacking system above Huntingdonshire and South Cambridgeshire.
However, the urgent need for change to the flight paths to Luton and Stansted airports, sparked by ever-growing passenger numbers in 2007, disappeared when the number of people on flights failed to escalate as predicted.
A four-month consultation into the plans in 2008 produced more than 15,000 responses, many objecting to the moving of Luton and Stansted’s holds. Following the consultation NATs said it was looking at revising the proposals and would publish those in 2009. However, the work was delayed and now the plans have been put on the back burner and will become part of a wider review in 2013/14.
Alex Bristol, NATs development and investment director, said the review would still go ahead.
“While the downturn in air traffic means we can take longer to ensure we have the best solution, we have always been clear that doing nothing is not a long term option,” he said.
His colleagues will now review a wider area of airspace over southern England for 2013/2014, when passenger levels are expected to return to pre-recession highs. In particular, NATS says it wants to keep planes higher in the skies for longer on more direct routes so they can save fuel and have less of an environmental impact.
That could also mean less noise for people on the ground, Mr Bristol said.
He added: “This is a very large and complex area of airspace with many interactions.
“As traffic levels pick up, changes will be necessary to ensure continued safety and reduced delay.
“The work we have done so far, and the feedback we have from the 2008 consultation, will be very much part of our plans.”

Rumours: Wizzair to Vilnius (VNO)

LTN is Wizz' strong-hold in the London area, so one of the eight destinations should be LTN. Amazingly, VNO currently has no London flights whatsoever (neighbouring KUN eats into that market). And you can expect a sudden revival of AirBaltic's VNO-LGW now. I mean within days of this rumour. They will consider this an intrusion into their territory.

Wikipedia - never believe all you read. AGI - TBI - Abertis. From memory Luton is about 13-14 years into the concession agreement. Abertis can in theory walk away after 15 (of a 25 year term), or that is what was being proposed back in the days AGI took on the concession.
I must dust off an old PC with much more detail within. I will always remember Frankfurt airport walking away shortly after due diligence commenced, they were the firm favourites of the then, airport management.
The final three were National Express, Copenhagen airport and AGI (was Lockheed).

Vilnius (VNO) starts 17th April 2011
Wizzair LTN-VNO is starting 17th April 2011, now bookable: Traditionally for Wizzair at LTN, another early morning flight (8:05 departure) Sun/Mon/Wed/Thu/Fri. Presumably a VNO-based aircraft. This is part of 8 routes from VNO, as rumoured. Good news ! A Fri evening or Sat morning would have been nice, but still.

I see that contractors were digging up the barriers today that had been installed on the grass between the tunnel and the midterm car park. Not sure at what point they were going to stop but 9 sections had been removed as I went past. The barriers have only been installed a matter of weeks in an attempt to put off passengers not wanting to use the drop off zone.

Probably being done as it had become impossible to walk to the terminal from the mid term car park since the barriers had been installed.
It was of course entirely predictable ... but since when has that stopped Airport Management from wasting money.
