easy cutbacks

Looking at the proposed reductions it could have been a lot worse me thinks - only Cagliari, Athens and Vienna as lost routes with Monarch and/or Thomson picking up passengers on the Alicante.

I flew to MXP from LTN with easy out and back on the 3rd Dec. Outbound 36 pax (felt like empty on 737), but almost full on the way back (319).

Looks like FlyBE are scrapping the Jersey service, I was looking on their website to book a trip for May next year and tickets are only bookable until December this year, not sure when this month it stops.
No they are not. It is only stopping for about month, from 6 Jan, and starts again on the 9 Feb. For the summer, it's then daily ex Tu/Th.

Also the Isle of Man Route only seems to be operating one rotation a day, I thought this was operated twice daily
.
Has been a single rotation since Nov 08. It was double daily for S08.

November Pax down 4.8%

Source: CAA

November Pax: 599124 -4.8%

Rolling Year: 9191327 -10.2%

At least the monthly decreases are reducing whereas BHX's are
increasing which sort of ties in, as BHX recorded much lower %
decreases at the start of the recession.

However annual passenger figures are very close.

I think it is only a matter of months before Luton drops to 7th busiest!
(After BHX and EDI)

Only Wizz look to be considering new routes .Easys 20% reduction will kick in next year and if the Airport doesnt attract other airlines , which seems unlikely, then the projected 500,000 loss will drag Luton down to 7th.

People like myself who use the Airport regularily may feel this is a blessing as the Airport did struggle at peak times.

I see Monarch´s winter 2010-2011 schedule has just appeared and from Luton they are increasing Tenerife flights by one to eight weekly and re-introducing (they are saying a new route) a once weekly service to Las Palmas both competing with Ryanair if they continue to operate next winter to the Canaries.

These "extra flights" seem to be listed in the timetable, but only for Nov, but do not show on the booking engine. Bookable flights are as TT states, ie 8 weekly.

LTN Shut For Next 2hrs Due To Snow...

Just looked on Luton's website and they are advising the airport is shut for the next two hours 10pm-12midnight due to "severe weather" and all operations are suspended!

Also the shuttle service from Station has stopped too!

This is sad news and looks like a repeat of last February!

I know one airline that is not going to be happy, and likely to put further strains on a tense relationship between LTN and easyJet. I remember how vocal they were after this happened 10 months ago!

Just been looking at the animated weather radar pictures. The snow seems to be coming in on a narrow line with Luton in the middle but with clear weather north and south. It’s really nasty out there with blowing heavy snow and it has been that way for a good 2 or 3 hours. The airport is reporting heavy showers but it hasn’t stopped.

Temp -1C but -9C with the windchill

There is currently heavy snow falling in Luton. Have you, personally, had experience of snow clearing operations from runways?

My runway is my drive and that looks like around 2 hours of digging out.

With the wind blowing hard I don't see the airport being open for sometime

Who me? No!

Im not knocking anyone, if that what you are implying... Its just sad news to see the airport closed and hopes it don't cause issues with easyJet at the airport!

I was hoping incidents like this could be avoided as LTN does see its fair share of closures, and I remember the chaos in February...

Also at this time of night you have all the Ryanair, Monarch and easyJet aircraft returning to base... If they divert their could be chaos in the morning wth aircraft been in the wrong location.

Well, I have. It's not an art form. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No one ever thanks you for getting it right, everyone always moans when you get it wrong. When it is snowing as heavily as it is now then all you can do is to try and keep of top of it whilst it falls and then try and clear it when it stops.
