Wizz to operate from LTN to both Varna & Bourgas, all year round, not just as summer destinations.

Figures For June

Provisional passenger figures for June are 861,478 a drop of 9.7 per cent on 2008 with the rolling 12 month figure standing at 9,548,597 a drop of 6.5 per cent. Air transport movements for June were down 8.6 per cent almost all I would think on executive movements. Passenger numbers not bad considering compared to a number of other airports. Comments please.

Birmingham - 898k passengers (down 3.7%), rolling year 9.411k (up 0.4%). Due of course to the new Ryanair base at BHX, but it's looking likely that Brum will overtake LTN later this year and take over the number 5 slot!

BHX/LTN

Gorbachev's mate

Not so quick, not everything up here in Brum land is well.

July & August could show a bigger loss than June and
from late October the effects of the FR base will go unless
aircraft 5 & 6 arrive as rumoured. However the FR winter
schedule shows work for just three based aircraft,
Continental will be virtually six a week from November
per one post on another forum and baby will only have
four based with two flights on a Saturday and eight on
a Wednesday.

Also MOL said no UK growth which could result in no
more BHX expansion this year.

Luton might just hang on but we will have to wait and see.

Pete

The average rolling year decline across all airports is -6.7%, so Luton is slightly better than the average. In the month, the average is -7.8%, so Luton worse. Of the larger airports:
Rolling Year
Birmingham + 0.4%
Edinburgh - 2.5%
Heathrow - 3.0%
Luton - 6.5%
Bristol - 8.2%
Gatwick - 8.2%
Manchester - 9.6%
Glasgow - 10.3%
Stansted - 10.5%
Newcastle - 11.6%

June 2009
Edinburgh + 1.4%
Heathrow - 3.1%
Birmingham - 3.7%
Gatwick - 7.5%
Newcastle - 9.3%
Luton - 9.7%
Glasgow - 10.9%
Stansted - 11.5%
Bristol -12.3%

Bhx/luton Passenger Figures

Yep, hang on gorbis mate, it will certainly be interesting to see what happens over the next few months, as far as I can see Ryanair are still keeping the four aircraft based at Luton more or less fully employed in the winter period with Bergerac among others being dropped for the winter (no real surprise there) but Bergamo goes back up to a daily schedule. Also easyJet are bringing in two A320s to operate longer range routes to Cyprus and the Middle East plus are Wizzair increasing their services with Varna and Bourgas carrying on through the winter and if Sky Europe does fold, Wizz I am sure will step in - they already operate to Prague in competition with Sky Europe. More comments please.

I see traffic lights have now been installed in the CTA although they are covered up at the moment. Can’t help but think that these lights will make the morning queues worse when they are switched on.

16 mins from St Pancras to Luton Airport Parkway!

I live in Wellingborough and have the misfortune of being a regular user of East Midland Trains.

Im not sure if they attached a rocket to the back of our train this evening, but we did St Pancras to Luton Airport Parkway in 16 minutes! Not bad for a non airport express train! On the downside we were sat at the station for 6 mins as we arrived that early!

Is nearly as fast as the Heathrow Express! It's not a shame for me (as I want to get home from London as quickly as possible), but for other users that EMT only serve the station once an hour in each direction! On the positive side you don't have to pay a premium airport express ticket price!

Even though EMT operate the route non-stop, its a shame their timings are not consistent on the timetable, some are times at 20-22 mins and others up to 30 mins!

Makes you wonder why the Stansted Express which stops once takes between 46 and 59 minutes to get to Liverpool Street. For its passengers Stansted must feel that it is much further out from London than Luton is.

Figures for June

A couple of observations based on previous posts:

1) RYR to Bergamo is already back to a daily flight albeit that it wasn't daily last winter

2) I wouldn't be too sure that the drop of 8.6% in ATM's is entirely down to executive movements. Both Thomson and Monarch are doing less daytime flights and whilst neither have had an extensive night flight programme for a number of years, there have been no such flights during June.

LTNman,How long does that fee payable "perambulation" up & down THAT hill to & from Luton Parkway by the one dedicated bus take then?..add to that the waiting time for it amid your self acknowledged traffic chaos and I think your attempted "point" becomes even more futile, don`t you?.Please stop trying to compare Luton & Stansted..it is like comparing chalk & cheese...ie, you are on top of a BIG chalk hill and Stansted is the BIG cheese.

Sorry mate, the point I am making is that a train that travels at an average speed of 33MPH on a 59 minute trip on a rural branch line can't be described as an express. So why is it so sloooow?

Oh and it is 4 dedicated busses and not 1. Average journey time is now only 5 minutes which is close to the same time it takes to get a train to a Stansted pier from the terminal.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport Gets New Wizz | FHR Travel News | BOOKFHR.com

Did we miss something "This comes just days after Jet2 announced that it would be operating new flights to the Canary Islands from Manchester, Birmingham, Gatwick and Luton airports."?

I think they are getting confused with Monarch.

Grrr

More chance of Flyglobespan, as quite a number of their flight deck crew live around London and have to commute into Scotland! They would be ecstatic with a London hub! Some of their chaps have been helping me rather than commute! Same goes for baby, their sim ain't close to Castle Donington!

Traffic generally in the UK is down 10%, Biz Jets are up, yields are down which is not good for the industry.

With BA hemorrhaging cash, how long before easy have a Heathrow base? Might be a few 'bus' drivers looking for work, an airline taking deliveries and slots available?

Who would have thought back in November 1995 that easyJet's busiest base would have been Gatwick in 2009?

The yields are at Heathrow, that is what all the airlines are in search of!

A BA - Iberia link might see Vueling operate the Shuttles?

Anyway, I am a bear with a dislike for Stansted - Hey' what do I know!

Stansted might look like this after Ferrovial's 'fire sale' of Gatwick has failed to yield any real cash!

Buster, what are you exactly going on about? What is the point of this post in the LTN forum?

BMI Baby, FlyGlobeSpan and Vueling are not going to operate from LTN anytime soon!

I really don't get the point of half of your posts?!

It was just another pointless post so he could mention his dislike for Stansted

Mostly hot air but I heard they did discuss things at the time, most probably to try and get deals out of BAA which Baby would never take, even though 6 years ago it looked likely (very different times then)...how many BAA bases do the have?
As for the Pro-Stansted posters, which are very quiet on the Stansted thread because of lack of new news, lets see how things pan out now Stansted has to stand on it's own two feet. Has it ever made any profit? Facts please!

I was somewhat disturbed by what I saw as I travelled from the Ibis roundabout down the new dual carriageway. On the up carriageway a policeman was hiding behind a small blue van while holding out a speed gun. With a 40mph speed limit this was rich pickings for the police car that was also hidden by the blue van.
