Easy o/b LTN-TLV @1130, 55 mins before the El Al departure. I/b arrives back into LTN @2305. Returns cost about £102. Considerably cheaper than the competition.

Free seating, nil recline and unlimited cabin baggage weights....that will be fun to watch but a nightmare for the crew......

Give them 6 months...EL AL will be forced off and EZY will retreat too

Easy To Tel Aviv

I would have thought not LTNman - people to be worried I would have thought in my humble opinion would be BMI and BA especially BMI.

Heard on the local BBC 3 Counties radio station that it was a failure of the computerised check in systems. Some flights delayed upto 2hrs.

At least 3 hours delay for me. Feel sorry for the guys taking over on the late shift - some of them aren't getting home until we report for duty tomorrow morning!

This seems to happen with predicatable frequency in one guise or another, every July and August!

Big Mach,
Tend to agree.
I was affected a few months back on the 1800hr -1900 hr slots.
You say it happens regularily during the peak season.
Noticed that the have been doing work on the baggage system recently.
(why during peak season i have no idea)
Is this anything to do with the upgrade work or is the system just not reliable emough.
Hope the guys get some form of compensation.
More ammo for Easy though!

Can anyone tell me how many easy A319s are now currently based at LTN, and what the projected total will be as at 31/12/09. Thanks.

EL AL v EZY

This will be an interesting fight, and one I believe that EL AL is destined to win. TLV airport just does not fit the low costs model and EL AL has a long history of fighting and winning against carriers. Any student of the TLV – NYC route will tell you this.

EL AL moved from STN to LTN to pick up the capacity left behind when TOM withdrew from the route, I have no idea what deal they got from LTN Airport but I bet it was a good one and the less than dynamic commercial team at STN could not or would not compete. They have raised there schedule on the TLV – LON route to directly compete with BMi who have recently started on the route. EZY will just be a sideshow to this battle.

The one thing that both BMi and EZY do not have, and do not fully understand, is the loyalty of the Jewish population to EL AL and everything Israeli. Israel is a different market than the others they fly.

I would be interested to see what EZY do about the catering on this route; a significant number of the passengers will only eat kosher food. Will they modify their on board catering and crew training which will add costs to the operation or will they just sell less?

Knowing TLV, EL AL and EZY quite well I can see this route being quietly dropped by EZY within 12 months.

Travelling to Luton Airport

I read the posts about traffic problems with rising concern. We would like to use Luton Airport but it seems that between the Airport and the Council, no one seems to want to consider things from the passengers point of view.
The train doesn't actually take you to the Airport terminal.
Why not? Is there no way that it could be extended?
Buses and taxis have to fight for the same road space as workers at the airport and passenger traffic, as no sensible alternative public transport exists. If we try and park off airport, we still have to get to the Terminal!!
The road layout seems intended to cause maximum problems at every point. One breakdown and it all jams.
Is there no alternative additional route for an access road, say just for workers that doesn't need to be at the front of the terminal? There seems to be quite a few service roads for airline office staff etc, but they all feed into one choke point at the roundabout.
Roadworks seem never ending, always something either on the M1 or on the roads to the Airport.
Don't you want passengers?
I'd suggest a bus priority lane, but then the Council will want different coloured tarmac and cone it off for years whilst it's done, then decide they don't like the colour!! That's where you might have 2 lanes!!
Please, is it possible to make the decision makers work together and think things through from the point of who wants to use the airport, not how much can be extracted from us?
Luton is becoming the Ryanair of airports.

Arrived on time (actually about 10 mins early) from Lisbon last night on the EZY2368. Now it's been about a year since my last trip out of LTN and after reading about the approach road situation etc, was fearing the worst...We landed and after clearing immigration, found that the Passenger Display Screens where out! Not a problem, already temporary 'wipe-boards' where in place and our luggage was on the belt within minutes!!
The bus to the Mid Term car park was waiting has we came out and we where 'on our way' up the M1 within 30 minutes of landing!
A very BIG thank you and well done to all the LTN guys

No, as trains can't travel up steep hills and to tunnel to a new station under the terminal would cost too much.

Roadworks seem never ending, always something either on the M1 or on the roads to the Airport.
All finished now but more to start next year by junction 10A, which should not affect the existing routes while they are being built.

No, there are three routes to the airport but once you get to the Ibis it is down to one but thats no different to Heathrow terminals 1-3

Got to say that access to the airport has never been faster or better. It's just that 2-3 hour spell in the morning when there are queues but they do keep on moving. The custom of drivers who wait in cars in the drop off area which used to add to congestion seems to be coming to an end. With free 1 hour parking in the midterm car park and only £2 for 2 hours hopefully it will catch on as an £80 fine will focus a few minds.

update
At 6:08 this morning the queue of cars was back to the Ibis. At the back of the queue was an airport shuttle bus that got to the terminal a good deal quicker than me as I walked from the Holiday Inn. I would say today at that time it was taking around 5 minutes. By 7:00 the queue had completely gone.

I see that the roundabout at M1 junction 10A is going to be removed next year and replaced with a radical new road layout which will mean a new route to the M1 for car travelling from Luton town centre and Harpenden and from Luton to Harpenden direct. Cars heading between the M1 and the Airport will have nothing to slow them down as the roundabout will be replaced by an additional length of duel carriageway that will cross the former roundabout.

Flybe appear to have increased LTN-IOM to daily(ex wed) for W09/10, compared to 3/4 weekly for W08/09. Currently daily throughout the summer. JER is 3 x wkly for the winter.

LTN-TLV with EZY

So the easyJet LTN-TLV service starts in November. Does anyone know anything about frequency? Presumably an Airbus operation.

Lots being said to the crew about cultural differences, etc? Don't see the cabin being such a bad place on this flight though surely?

Speaking of cultural differences, does the low cost model really meet the needs of this passenger base? Passengers maybe more demanding on such a long flight, and are probably used to full service. Having said that I can't see EZY making much from the in-flight services...?

mrskytec - it'll be flown 6x per week

For all of the worries that people express, I don't think this is such a great risk for EZY. There are plenty of people in North London and Israel who'll happily fly economy on BA or bmi on this route - and many of the residents of North London will have flown EZY in the past. Loyalty to LY has its limits - offer a round-trip for £100 less per person, and a family of four will start to reconsider.

Non-alcoholic drinks will sell well, but the food on the trolley might not go quite so well and will certainly need the odd tweak - the bacon baguettes are not going to be in high demand. Expect to see quite a few people bringing their own sandwiches

I can assure you when TOM operated LTN-TLV (with seat recline & IFE!) the only drink that the passengers wanted was free water!! In fact, the aircraft tanks were frequently nearly emptied!

As for food.....the passengers will bring thier own and spend the five odd hours treading most of it into the carpets! I see EZY are scheduling a 50 min turnround in TLV.....could be interesting!
