'how bad has capitalism got that passengers at BHX have to pay a non-refundable £1 for use of a baggage trolley'

It started sliding down the scale when they started charging for plastic bags at security. The 'budget' feel of BHX is greatly added to with all these lovely touches.

New airport boss Paul Kehoe said Birmingham was the “last great aviation opportunity in the UK”
Seems he meant last great opportunity to rip off the travelling masses!!!

Once Covman announced TOM's possible departure I knew BHX was safe

If you're of a nervous disposition, check TOM's website - 2010 is already on sale........

Quite. It's a crying shame to see how the once lovely EuroHub terminal now looks and is now used.

I know the answer is 'no' but couldn't the old Elmdon side handle premium passengers, charging them a premium service in that lovely building? I'm not talking huge quantities but a few of the smaller airliners could park up over there? What a unique product that would be - allowing business passengers to be driven up to the terminal door, whisked into a lounge and then quick process onto the aircraft. Shame it cant / wont happen.

0523covman. Please tell us which flight it was, when I checked earlier there were no delays due to loading on any TOM flight this week. Another thing for you to think about is maybe they were waiting for a Loading Instruction? With 5 based TOM aircraft it is always a good idea to make sure you are loading the right one

This already happens with Biz jets and Private charters...Many a pampered pax pass through there.

Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary has singled out Manchester Airport for future growth.

He cited Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Liverpool and Edinburgh as cities where the airline was still planning to grow in the future
Just spotted this on the MAN thread - taken from Crains Manchester Business Magazine, 25/06/09. No word on BHX. Interesting. Any comments?

It's a crying shame to see how the once lovely EuroHub terminal now looks and is now used
Last time I flew through the terminal itself was still lovely, it was just the clientele who seemed to be letting the side down Funny that the terminal is now occupied by the very airline whose MD predicted that BA would leave BHX high and dry. Going on the above and comments made on this thread, it would seem there will be no Eurohub (T2) at all in the future......

Careful Call, with comments like that covman will crawl through that pesky hole in the fence and come knocking at your office door

GF....I think you will find MOL makes statements like that in any rag local to wherever he is......Hardly the most reliable of business partners....Any airport relying on them will struggle in the future.
IMO too much emphasis is on Pax figures. Many of the new breed of passengers spend very little in the terminals. If they don't spend, the cost of processing them through the airport is not recouped and they become just another figure that means very little for the airport except a brag factor.
We are then reduced to Ryanesque practices like charging a non refundable £1 for a trolley. Even then LoCo pax don't need the trolleys!!!!!!!
Remember when you offered a service because you just wanted to be better than anyone else???

If CovMan comes knocking, he can have a coffee anytime.....

Would be great if it could be expanded to more of the mainstream business pax, who could be whisked in and out in London City fashion (and without the 'opening time restrictions' City has). From what I've seen most of the big hangars have gone over there, so a bit more room to park the odd KLM fokker...

Ha Ha

"Parking the little odd Fokker" ! - Who are you thinking of ? -Is this a personnel issue that has not been covered in PPRUNE before - Its interesting to see, how much of what's going on; in the airline business and that in its self, is not covered in pprune. CAT III (PS - I had a boss like that once.)

I work in Ops, I checked the didflys for the week and there were NO loading delays. Now are you going to be more specific or was it just some gossip you heard. Please feel free to pm if you don't want to post here

I don't think he said it caused a delay...

CovMan....I might just take a stroll over on your open day...I think I've got a spare 15 minutes on that day...
