Virgin cc - i'm not sure how regularly you read the BHX Forum but you will find that call100 does not make wild or unsubstantiated claims about what is or isnt happening at BHX. As an regular on here I can tell you that if he states something it will have come from a concrete source (or as concrete as aviation sources get!). Which does indeed beg the question - how concrete is yours?

As for my own opinion I think that on the right routes (SXF, VCE, BUD, MAD, even ATH to name a but a few) an EZY base at BHX would be a great success although I would be surprised if it happened this year.

Does anybody know the longhaul programme that Airtours/MyTravel used to offer when they had their Boeing 767 based at BHX, and whether we might see Thomas Cook or Monarch launching more longhaul services in the near future?

GF..Thanks...I don't pretend it's going to happen this year. That's not how aviation works unfortunately, most of the summer programmes are well in place now.
I did qualify the credit crunch effect which of course seems to have the ability to derail even the most done deals in all industries....
I'm still willing to wait patiently for confirmation..

When Easyjet announced a MAN base they put a 5 year plan (which I might say they are sticking to) and they do not expand at the same pace as Ryanair and don`t pull the plug so quickly either, so I would expect if they are going to start BHX it would probably be next summer or possibly winter 2010/11 .with perhaps 1 aircraft and probably longish haul flights like MAN so as not to hit their EMA operation

well, im just intregued as to why my head office claim that BHX is not in the master plan can be dismissed so easily as aposed to somebody 'fairly reliable' in an aviation forum.

Granted, call100 is accurate in his posts, but why favour his claim when I HAVE SPOKE TO ROUTE PLANNING and they say nothing is in the pipeline for BHX!!!!

I dont know how many times I have to spell that out, but like I say, just because 'talks are in place', doesnt mean anything will come with it.
Christ, if half the airports in talks with airlines came into fruition, we would be able to fly from anywhere to anywhere!

Personally I would rather sit in the comfort knowing my information has come from the very source that puts these plans into place, than some guy on an internet forum.

Anyway, sorry to be the bearer of doom and gloom, but im just passing on the FACTS!!!!!!!

Does your head office know you are desperatly keen to work for Virgin? Thought not....

It is relatively normal that channels of communication are kept open between operators and prospective airports. Only time will tell if this leads to anything concrete.

I am personal friends with the guy that was the easyJet 'rep' for BHX and he has told me that there will be a winter program this year and, depending on market conditions, would look at a summer program there after.

Well, as you are just some guy on the forum to the rest of us....
Why is it you cannot just wait and see. Perhaps you can have a really good day in the future and point out how wrong I was....You'll need more patience than you have get to get into Virgin!
If I'm wrong I'll take the flak, If I'm right I doubt anyone will notice. So don't get so upset.

Oh Virgin, keep your wig on! No one is favouring anyone! Likewise no one is saying that EZY are definately coming to BHX, this is a bloody rumour network for gods sake!! And you like everyone else here are just 'some guy on an internet forum' as you put it unless you would like to tell us what it is exactly that you do. Then maybe people will listen......

As far as i'm concerned, Easy come, Easy go, if they do come to BHX, nice one and a few new choice routes. If they don't, BHX i'm sure will manage quite fine thank you.

Two more things - Don't believe everything that everyone tells you. And what Head Offices claim they are doing and what they actually do are often two entirely different things. Its often what they say they are not doing that indeed they really are Or perhaps I have been working in the Middle East for too long?!

firstly, created my user name a few years ago and has no relevence to what I do now

secondly its just strange how one rumour is so easily dismissed whilst another is accepted with open arms.

I know in these times its very good to hear good news, and Im not knocking you for wanting to beleive that, but im jsut a bit miffed, as, route planning have no intentions for BHX, so if ROUTE PLANNING, it will be interesting to see who is talking to BHX, maybe the canteen staff or something?

ah well, im off to the real world now, where I know what I have been told and know whats going on. If you do get the routes, good on you, its about time BHX came out of the shadows, but if not, told you so!

As mentioned above, a link to athens from the midlands.... sounds brilliant. Hope it comes true one day. I can see Aegean extending there routes to the UK....
With the london airports and MAN taken up i reckon BHX is next.

Virgin cc wanabbe - anyone who is around here long enough finds out that some here state opinions, some state opinions as fact and some state varying degrees of pork pies to stir things up for entertainment. Its one of the facts of life in a pseudo anonymous forum.
No one is suggesting Call100 is a more reliable, honest and well informed individual or that his sources are more or less trustworthy than yours. Its simple that those of us who know BHX well know where he works and what he does and the verifiable truth in so much of what he says. Call doesnt do stirring or dealing in gossip. Hes not the only one - I could name a good few others too - so if you hang around and join in constructively like many do here, you will be treated the same. We dont all agree with each other and a good debate is part of the fun.

Good for you! When you come back do allow yourself to relax a bit and indulge in some idle gossip once in a while, it does wonders for the soul (and as a one time C.C wannabee, maybe you are even C.C now, I should think you would be the first to realise that) Oh yes and always remember that old adage - its only half-truths, lies and porky pies

And I wouldn't call being the sixth biggest airport in the UK (in terms of pax numbers) being in the shadows, more well out there in the limelight!

The one thing that confuses me about this whole thread is surely that it was the Birmingham 6, think it should be Guildford for 4

Hi Sam,

We (TCX) are doing from BHX with 3 Boeing 757-200s; ADB, ALC, AYT, ACE, BJV, CFU, DLM, FAO, FUE, GRO, HER, HRG, IBZ, EFL, KOS, LCA, LPA, MAH, AGP, MLA, MIR, PMI, PFO, REU, RHO, JSI, SSH, TFS, ZTH. We're also confirmed to be doing YYZ twice weekly with a fourth aircraft which is specifically configured for Canadian Affair with 187 seats. There's still rumours about YUL coming back once a week, but it's getting a bit late in the season for any more new routes to be launched!
