The whole apron is having to be replaced over the next few months due to cracking etc

BHX5DME
Not quite accurate. The Taxiway system is to be overlaid with tarmac (like Alpha is now). The works are to prepare the worst areas of concrete for the overlay. You will find other areas being closed and stands going out of service as the work progresses.
During the work Victor is moving 5 meters North giving a code E taxiway and allowing for the new Wide body stand configurations the new Pier will require. The 70's will be reconfigured during this gaining an extra stand.
Hope that helps.

Monarch Arrecife

Revo & all

Arrecife is only three a week for one week (circa 15 DEC), well that
is all I could find in the booking engine but the three following weeks
it is actual four. It even operates on Christmas Day per the booking engine.

Alas it is only over Christmas & New Year.

I think I mentioned in an earlier post Tenerife is daily in November,
Christmas, New Year and from mid Feb (well the last time I looked).

As for their claim it is three a week during the winter - no (or not yet
on sale) but increased frequency during the Christmas holiday period.

In fact Monarch have always been good at supplying extra capacity
at holiday time and next winter is no different.

SAS - 735 well at least for a few months, got to be better than...

BHX Record March Figures

Birmingham International Airport (BIA) handled 730,307
passengers during March, including 595,306 scheduled
passengers and 135,001 charter passengers spread across
the two passenger terminals; smashing the previous highest
figure recorded for the month of March and an 8.4% increase
over the previous year.
These figures represent even more good news for the Airport
as it also handled record numbers in February with more than
635,000.
Peter Vella, Business Development Director at Birmingham
International Airport, said:
"It is the second straight month of
record-breaking passenger figures for the Airport, which is
obviously great news as we strive to break the 10 million
passenger barrier this year. We are delighted to have seen
flybe launch new routes to Inverness and Newquay in March,
which once again increases the choice available to passengers
flying from their local Airport."
In March, growth was achieved on non-EU routes of 9.7%,
EU of 10.8% and domestic of 0.9%. The Irish Republic saw
an increase of 16.6%.
Scheduled routes that experienced growth in January includes:
Bratislava (+394.7%), Madrid (+394.1%), Barcelona
(+189.1%), Geneva (+158%), Berne (+80.3%), Faro
(+76.6%), Murcia (+72.4%), Chambery (+66.2%),
Palma (+45.8%), Lyon (+42.5%), Nice (+39.6%),
Arrecife (+25.7%), Almeria (+24.2%), Brest (+18.9%),
Glasgow (+17.9%), Mahon (+16.3%), Zurich (+13%),
Alicante (+12.4%), Paphos (+12%) and Malta (+10.8%).
Charter traffic which experienced growth were Bulgaria
(+145%), Cyprus (+40.3%), Italy (+32.9%), Austria
(+25.9%), France (+24.6%), Egypt (+14.8%), Switzerland
(+13.7%), the Canary Islands (+13.4%) and Spain (+3.5%).
Scheduled traffic accounted for 81.5% of the total passenger
traffic in March whilst charter passengers made up the remaining
18.5%.

March pax

The individual route analysis is also out but only looked at long-haul
in depth but some of the European routes were very average. I assume
due to business closing for Easter - the leisure routes were fine.

Dubai 36412 - 294 per flight 83%
Newark 8789 - 143 per flight 81%
Ashkhabad 5803 - 161 per flight or 85% approx
Islamabad 9570 - 266 per flight or 81% (first time the 777 has hit 80%)

Not included Air India as it is difficult to judge how many BHX seats
are available with the transfers but 2736 from ATQ is lowish.

Still a bit to go I would assume before EK upgrade the evening flight
but it is still heading in the right direction. Good to see CO recover from
that awful February (still down on 2007) and PK finally break 9000.

BHX Summer 2009

Pete and all,
Great news for summer 2009 I suppose that with the massive marketing that a combined TOM/FCA have has enabled more risky routes possible now.
I have noticed that on XL BHX appears not to have a based aircraft of any type KM or XLA, so flights like JSI/CHQ maybe instead of not as well as KM flights.
Also one small negative is the loss of AGA from the summer schedule in 2009.

Daza

The lack of KM has been rumoured before but can't have everything.
Also despite the number of aircraft based I believe that the number
of seats is down about 1000 on the combined 2008 schedule.

I have not done the maths accurately but I don't think I am too far out.

I am still not sure about six aircraft on Saturday as all they would need to do is move the SZG (assuming it is operating) to the morning and they only need 5. However it would be odd as the 763 is still needed for the POP and it would involve a 757 positioning out for a day or two.

The loss of the KM will hurt as it is fairly busy especially in the height of the season. Just need to check Thomas Cook for 2009 but it would be disappointing if there are anything less than three based.

Thomas Cook is also now on sale and they have an Agadir
Showing in their brochure as FCA. So either a default schedule from this year or a mistake. Their brochure also shows a KM PFO flight

tom /fca based aircrart.

yes it 's true, confirmed in writing 5 based 757 's next summer plus a 763 for most of the week for longhaul( 258 seats ie fca aircraft ).

Interesting as the company is reducing the number of aircraft by 10 for summer 2009.

There has been speculation for sometime regards SV into BHX.

If SV do come, I dont think it would be a direct service but rather via Geneva into Riyadh with onwards connections to JED for Umrah passengers.

We have seen many a Hajj Charter in Saudi operated by some turkish setup recently, but it would come down to which GSA would sell the route either Commodore International in London or Sundowners in Manchester? and trying to get agreement from either would be
