Last BA Flights

End of an era. The old dinosaurs from Diamond House past and present never really thought it was going to happen - did they? Was very poignant listening to the exchanges between BA staff and ATC - even heard cheering on the radios. Wonder where the routes are all going to end up.

flybe

legalize

They had a bad late afternoon on Monday 26th.

About 7 flights all delayed outbound by about an hour or more but it improved Tuesday. No idea what the problem was but it looked a mess on the departure screens.

I noticed there was a NAX flight from Oslo showing on BHX arrivals on Sunday, presumably NAX are looking at a Oslo-BHX flight in addition to the Warsaw flight

It'll be interesting to see how Swissport fill the positions for handling the T2 operation. It's all very well taking staff from T1 (Ops / Dispatch etc) but then they have to back-fill. There seems to be adverts all over the place for a whole range of staff. I suspect there may be a number of pretty good opportunities for folks at BHX.

Any new news on Flywho? It seems to have gone all quiet since they had their cabin mock up in the terminal last Summer.

I also see there is a new company, Air Sylhet looking at BHX as a destination to Bangladesh. Not sure the picture of the modified Easyjet A319 is appropriate though, presumably starting with used A310's/B767's?

Wouldn't an op such as Air Sylhet tread on the toes of new start-up Royal Bengal? Mind you, there are a tremendous amount of Bangladeshis in the immediate area of BHX that originate from the Sylhet region, a non-stop to ZYL would be much better than going via DAC as proposed by RB.

I'm sure they finally ceased trading. Website has been offline for a couple of months now and I think any staff were told they were redundant.

As for Air Sylhet... another new flashy website appears stating flights from BHX. I'll believe it when they come back with an AOC, and an aircraft on the ground at BHX. Sorry for my scepticism but its all to easy to set up a lovely "airline" website these days but how many of these ventures actually take to the skies?

Swissport Jobs

The swissport jobs are being advertised as part time and once you read the details, it states some full time jobs. Hardly a decent push to provide the necessary staff

What air taxi companies operate at BHX nowadays, and what aircraft do they operate? Are there any private aircraft left there?

The two major GA players at Birmingham are Eurojet (operating 1 C500, 2 C550B & 2 C560XL) & Jet Options (operating 1 C550 & 1 C560). I'm not sure if they do air taxi work though.

Only other based GA is the Police chopper & a based Pa31 Panther.

Rumours around that HLX may look at another route into Birmingham in addition to CGN (STR perhaps?)

March Pax figures

Slightly down but not bad considering the mayhem caused by flybe/BACON,

Pax 673,515
Schedule 549,575
Charter 123,940

A decrease of 0.2% over the previous year.

FC

Berlin is now absent and Munich could probably take competition but I suppose it will be a HLX base. The Cologne has hardly pulled in the pax and to get another destination would be a surprise, however if it is to be then Stuttgart must be favourite.

OY handling agent

Anyone know who is handling the Norweigan Air Shuttle due to commence ops this weekend. Meant to be operating out of terminal 2.

Footie charters

MUFC_fan

Not heard of any, just an XLA 767 from Lourdes and City Star 328 from Aberdeen, as one-off charters tomorrow but nothing to do with the footie.

Even on a Saturday, you can fairly well trust the M1/M6/M40 to get you
to Brum on the same day - just about.

OP:

I think the City Star from ABZ IS footie related, as they have been running a number of charters t/f MAN for major league & cup games this season for Man U fans, of which there are a fair number up here because of the "Ferguson" factor.

Footie Charters

Richard

Cheers for that, of course it is an early evening kick-off which gives them
plenty of time to get to the match.

I thought there might have have been some from Ireland, as the BHX
schedules are okay on a weekend but not brilliant.

Also I saw an article moaning about the poor sales (Watford not MUFC) -
BHX certainly has plenty of room to park day footie charters at the moment, which is ironic as most pprune threads suggest that quite a
few airports are running short of stand space .

Mahan to Tehran

Have heard a rumour that Mahan are to pull out of BHX and go to 5 times a week from MAN to Tehran......has anybody heard this aswell or can confirm rumour?? I thought the loads on this weren't too bad, perhaps they have dropped after recent events? With yet another airline disappearing will BHX need two terminals in the future?? I flew in last Sat evening from EDI at 1830, T2 was deserted and v little action in T1!!! And it was Easter weekend!!!
