Actually, it wasn't a -10; I believe it was a Tri-Star. Went round about 3 times on Friday lunchtime if we're talking about the same thing.

Most likely practice approach's we get E-3 sentrys up at NCL often just doing circuits. They tend to use the regionals when it quitens down in the winter season.

Was wondering what on earth all this was about, and sure enough dependable 'Hughie' is at it again. The quote is actually of Hughie resulting to last resort by adding his Xmas wish for help in safeguarding DTV-LHR to 'Dear Santa Please Bring Us.....' on a northern business forum. This guy would be an absolute joke other than the fact that he is trusted with the responsibility of running what has turned into one of the UK's worst performing airports, and it's everyone to blame bar himself ! BMI/LH and DTV

I think we should all start worring if this takeover goes ahead !

BMI slots at Heathrow..especially the non performing routes will be a great bonus to LH. More revenue ,me thinks on a LH Heathrow to New York or LA than DTV to Heathrow..and thats including interliners.


Skyman...you talk a lot of sense...time for Hugh to deliver or the future will be even more bleak for us than it currently is.

The squeeze from our friends in the north and Leeds/Doncaster is developing an almost unstopable momentum..the future for DTV is bleak..

If as expected Newcastle obtain a USA link..probably late 2008 or 2009..then even interliners will drop away from the BMI LHR link.Especially as the Emirates Dubai appears to be going from strength to strength? A friend of mine unable to book business class for two days this month as full!!

Some good input.

Another factor that I believe will influence the futuure is T5.
If T5, when opened, delivers on the promises of both BA and the BAA in that it will smooth the interline process and be an efficient and pleasurable experience; then LHR may recover some of the lost interline traffic routing through other European hubs. If it does not deliver then more passengers will look for alternatives.

Whereas I have no reason to defend the mangement at DTV I wonder just how much influence they really have in the decision process of an airline. If BMI want to use their LHR slots for more profitable routes than DTV I'm not sure what the DTV management are expected to do to keep the route. Basically, they will be damned whatever they do as the loss of a route will be seen as a failure; and only huge financial incentives might prevent the change and then they will be castigated when there will be no money for development. Devil and the deep blue sea....

As it transpires subsequent posters have actually provided part of the answer in that a new management team with inovative & fresh idea's is required. However as this is an aviation & not a business forum I have neither the need nor the inclination to respond further other than to note that on my CV I have an excellent record of running a number of sucessful business in the N.E. over the past 20 years, with qualifiactions and experience that are perhaps way beyond your comprehension.

Any financial incentive would probably only be of use if it were to assist in providing a service that was to be supported by the local public in sufficient numbers & at a cost that would make it viable in the medium term. To generate the support the provider needs to provide a frequency and appropriate timing that is consistent & part of a long term growth strategy that is capable of being successfully marketed. Throwing money at a route because the 'manadarins' conclude it is for 'ecconomic benefit' of the region alone is basically money down the toilet. How many routes have started up over the years to the N.E. simply because of EEC subsidies, that have subsequently been withdrawn c.18 months later when the subsidy runs out...

I used to think that in the very unlikely event that our name was ever changed back to Teesside International, then it would make things worse as the local people would become even more confused than they already are. Now I'm not so sure, change the name back, and it might even wake people up and make them realise that they have a potentially good airport on their doorstep. I'm sick to death of idiot management, idiot owners, and idiot God-damned airlines.

Indeed, however it's still good news! Nice to see AMS got a special mention for being over 10% up on last year! Still only 3 F70's a day next summer though!

Well put, totally agree.

I think NCL-CPH has started and stopped at least 5 times that I can recall.

I took a job at DTVA this summer and moved up from just south of Gatwick. I need to travel back there three or four times a month but flying is just a nightmare.

LHR is a no no.. too busy.. train/coach reqd to the south.. too much time, inconvenient flight times, too expensive (because its LHR?).

Would love a LGW flight from DTV, checking travel options earlier this year, the cheapest fight was from LGW-DUB DUB-DTV all RYR. Sadly couldn't do it because the DUB turnaround time was insufficient. So I've had to make all my trips South and back by car (5-6 hours) or train (5 hours) at £108 return.

Why not move the LHR flight to LGW ?
