737s position back up in the morning.

It definately looks like outbound from Newcastle with inbound to Teesside.
Daft thing is the van drivers will have to drive down to Teesside and wait for the mail instead of delivering the outbound and waiting for the return I wonder how much more the fuel bill is going to cost!

Brace yourselves for good news

If the moneymen at Globespan are on the ball and there is no reason to think otherwise then the renegotiation of leases on their aircraft will end in a huge decrease in price and the price will be in dollars at the present rate. With sterling now about to bounce back to pre credit crunch rates in the next 4/6 months the leasing prices will be even more advantagious and the Teesside routes will be saved and possibly expanded.
Watch this space.

New Flight?!!!

Just saw the following on the Northern Echo website:

Airline service to Oslo will be launched

8:18am Saturday 10th January 2009

A NEW airline service connecting the region with the Norwegian capital will start on Monday.

Eastern Airways is starting daily flights to Oslo from Durham Tees Valley Airport.

The independent airline hopes the flights will attract business travellers, tourists and winter sports enthusiasts.

They will operate on weekdays, leaving Durham Tees Valley at 6.40am, arriving in Oslo at 1.05pm local time.

They will leave Oslo at 1.45pm, arriving in Durham Tees Valley at 5.10pm British time.

Eastern Airways’ director Graeme Ross said: “Our first service to Norway’s capital will help to further strengthen business links between both regions.

“Our frequent service to Aberdeen from Durham Tees Valley has developed over the years, providing businesses, including the energy sector, with a vital transport link, which now connects to Norway’s largest city.”

Oslo is situated on the shore of Oslo fjord and has international cuisine, cosmopolitan shopping and a variety of art museums, and has a Viking heritage with a popular Viking ship museum.

In the winter, Oslo has hundreds of kilometres of crosscountry ski trails and eight ski centres.

Eastern Airways has been providing services from Durham Tees Valley to Aberdeen for nine years predominantly for business travel.

No it's just the existing 4 times daily Aberdeen linking in to their new Oslo service. It's interesting that they chose to use DTVA instead of Newcastle for the press release though

Look at the times, it's a change of aircraft in Aberdeen so hardly qualifies as a new service from DTVA! Sad attempt at positive spin!

Yes it's misleading, yes it's not a direct route, yes it's nothing but spin, but the fact that it's a positive article has to count for something?

and Leeds/Bradford, Norwich, Wick etc.
Its a connecting flight to most of the Eastern Network, but clearly a big deal to DTV given its current struggle to obtain new services.

Exactly. Stop being negative people - this puts forward the idea to the public that we have new routes and destinations, so will hopefully attract people. We need a positive attitude to DTVA if people are gonna start using it.

Thumbs down

What a pointless bit of non-news, it should have read airline starts new service from Aberdeen to Oslo.

Do we get a full page spread saying there is a new service to "*******" whenever a new route from Heathrow or Schipol is launched?

So whats so special about the Eastern Airways overpriced mini van service to Aberdeen.

Anyone can see through this drivel.

Improved lighting

Now that the new approach lighting is being installed, this should enable the ILS catagory improved to CAT II or III. (Quote)

Does anyone know if MME has a CAT II or III ILS as a result of the upgrade on the approach lighting?

Cat Ii/iii

Cheers for the info HD. Do you think it's a cash problem for the upgrade? I suppose MME would have to have more traffic to justify the cost, not much chance of that at the moment.
