Glans tomlinson is right. At the risk of repeating my previous posts, Peel bought the airport for a bargain basement price. Their intention short term was to run an airport, with a pretty big industrial estate created to add value. Peel have invested a minimum amount of cash , the taxpayer sadly has been scammed for the rest. Credit crunch has scuppered the short term plan, but the long term has always been and will remain the creation of 200 ir so acres of industrial/office accommodation. Its called property development and it is what Peel do best.

Laser blinds passenger jet pilot

This type of incident can not help matters either!!

Source BBC News today BBC NEWS | England | Laser blinds passenger jet pilot

The pilot of a passenger jet was blinded by a laser device as the aircraft came in to land at Durham Tees Valley Airport, police said.
The jet landed safely after the co-pilot took the controls as the plane made its approach on Sunday night.
A Cleveland Police helicopter was also targeted as it searched an area around the airport near Darlington.
A police spokesman said a 19-year-old man had been arrested and charged with two counts of endangering an aircraft.
Ground search
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "The 2230 KLM flight was coming in to land at Durham Tees Valley Airport when a laser device was shone at the aircraft.
"The pilot was temporarily blinded and the co-pilot landed the plane.
"When the police helicopter was sent to investigate, it too was targeted by the laser device.

You said "Do you not think that MME has been pretty successful considering the amount of competition it faces from NCL and LBA?"

Will you still be saying that in a few years time when it is a housing estate?

We had total mis-management when the local authorities owned it. (To be expected)

And now we have appear to have the same problem with the current management. (or were they elected to run the place into the ground?)

Its unlikely it will be housing, none of the volume builders will be prepared to shell out any cash for the next 5 years in this area, plus the costs of decontaminating the site drives down the value. It will be a small industrial estate which will grow with the economy, I will have to sell my house soon before it is shaken to bits by the volume of heavy goods traffic thundering through Yarm.......................

Globespan to Newcastle?? Isn't Newcastle saturated with companies? In the current market would it make sense to move or is someone going to drop out up there and a gap in the market appear.

Has anyone got any pax figures for DTVA? How full are the flights that are on offer at the moment.

With summer 2008 in the UK being so horrible the demand for holidays abroad in 2009 must have a slight increase.

To finish off, the proposed development of the hangar five site seems to have stopped, the newts and frogs were evacuated from the half built swiming pool then nothing. The steelwork hasn't even made it to the scrapyard yet. What's going on there?

The newspaper article quotes 'internet pilot forums' as the source. There was a Journal reporter posting on here last week, but I dont remember anything being said about GSM moving to NCL

Flyglobespan i doubt will be staying in MME one of the main reasons is that next year there just not going to have the a/c to cover MME because of the disposal of the two 733's with no replacements been anounced. If there should be replacements i think Globespan wouldn't return to MME.

Flyglobespan have told local BBC news that they are still in negotiations with airport management regarding next Summers flying programme - they said that the reason they revealed this is because they were responding to 'internet rumours', probably ones on this thread.

So, airport management are in negotiations with an airline!! Miracles will never cease!

still in 'negotiations' regarding next summers flying programme or removal of it !!!

just a political response from 'flyglobespan' customer relations I think

Tells a pretty depressing tale, no matter how you look at it.

"Maxtoon" if it is removal of the summer programme its hardly likely it will be removal relocation to NCL.Too much competition from others on routes already available from newcastle

Something must be happening - they're either going or increasing - do they have any more aircraft on order for next summer?

Surely if they were staying and keeping the same programme next summer and therefore it would be on sale now? Talking to the airport to enable a good route network - surely the one they have now is working if Jamie's (and other people's) comments is correct
