Somewhat surprised by that. While they must have had some availability after dropping LBA, I would have imagined extra frequencies to EDI, BRS or BHX were the safe options.

Actually, there are no flights currently showing for Jersey, so perhaps it is replacing that service rather than using the LBA capacity.

NQY-ORK is an old route popping up again. This was previously served by air southwest before they were acquired by Eastern and then closed down.

Nice to see it back

It was twice weekly.

I believe a serious chunk of the seats were taken by tour operators. It's possible they have something else lined up. However, Jersey, as a holiday destination seems to be departing from the Irish consciousness, so they may also have just given up the ghost and decided that what demand there is can be funneled through Dublin.

ORK JER

Looks like they've swapped out Jersey for Newquay. Half the distance, same(ish) climate, better and cheaper accommodation, plus good results on DUB NQY would seem to make Stobart's decision relatively straightforward.

Agreed on all but the climate, Jersey gets hot weather much more frequently than Newquay and sunshine is 50 hours less in Newquay in the summer months.

With LBA gone, EDI (7 to 9 weekly), SOU (5 to 6 weekly). Saturday evening MAN/BHX back in schedules, not 100% if they operated last summer.

EIR said today they expect to carry 7% more passengers in 2017 over 2016.

2016 numbers should be between 2.22-2.23 million, the highest since 2013.

Peak overall year was 2008 at 3.258M

However, international passengers were 2.806M (or 2.761M if you exclude Belfast and other airports in the North).

So the international figure is gradually being clawed back.

Getting internal passengers back is probably never going to happen with direct buses to Dublin Airport and a much faster train service to Dublin City these days. Maybe an outside possibility of Belfast coming back one day, but hard to see who might operate it.

Indeed, I think the days of ORK-DUB are gone. Over Christmas I had need to use the Aircoach from DUB to St Patrick's Quay. I have to say, its a pretty good service, is frequent, cheap and pretty hassle free.
You could probably save about 90 minutes by flying to DUB for an onward connection, rather than taking the coach. But if you are going to Dublin City Centre, the 0500 would have you in Dublin at 0800, or the 0600 at 0900, which you'd struggle to match flying.

I had to use the aircoach a few times over the Christmas period and it's a miserable experience. I remember the days of the 5:15 EI flight that got to Dublin for the first bank of European departures. Now it's the 1:00 bus with people coming from pubs, stopping in the chipper, then nattering and cackling all the way to Dublin, for over three hours. The seats are incredibly cramped.

With the Russian Roulette that is going through Heathrow in the winter, there is no option but the Aircoach.

Fjr13,

It would appear late to putting those Cityjet routes on sale. Not in the booking engine and according to what I've heard all the SJ's are committed for summer already...

I've been 16 months waiting for this imminent announcement from Norwegian!

No sign of the service that never arrives yet?

Nothing can be announced until Jan 31st. Until that point, the licence could still theoretically be revoked by executive order.
